Tarkenton's first year..Loved the trade. He was in his prime (27) and I always loved how he played.."Scrambling" was so novel then..He almost literally took a 1-12-1 team on his back(along with Bob Tucker) and brought them to 7-7..In those days of non-parity, that was a remarkable feat..
There was a big split among fans on this guy..I loved him
If he were more disciplined in his route running (he was a notorious free lancer and drove Tarkenton and the coaches crazy) he'd be in the HOF and compared with guys like Don Hutson and Jerry Rice.
His combination of size and speed is probably unequaled.

That film brought back so many memories. I was at every home game that season. It's interesting to see the professionalism or some may say the lack of emotion after touchdown scored compared to the clownish acts of today. IMO,the game was better then.

I love how mature and professional the players were back then. They were not full of themselves. No chest beating, no dancing in the end zones and no ridiculous hairdos.
After 3 seasons of putrid football, The Giants and Fran were something else....finishing 7-7, and with a little luck could have been 9-5, or 10-4....
There was hope....from 67-70, it was fun to watch Giant football.....the frustration was, the games they lost, that they should have won.....they should have made the playoffs in one of those 4 seasons...after that 1970 season, it was the Dark Ages until LT arrived....
brought back a lot of memories for me too. That 1st game of the season vs the Saints was the 1st game I ever attended at Yankee Stadium.
The names: Tucker Fredrickson, Homer Jones, Morrison, Koy, Katkavage, et al.......
It was also a bit interesting to see how the game evolved over the years. Jones being called a "Split End"; The term "Sack" wasn't used or counted in those days; There was one play where Tarkenton was "sacked" and took a forearm to the back of the head (no flag); Jones clearly tackled at the 1 yard line before going into the end zone, but getting a TD call (no replay).
Hell, could you imagine the explosion that would take place if on national tv Coughlin lit up a Marlboro while walking the sidelines Sunday night?

"Wins games he shouldn't win and loses games he shouldn't lose" -- my father's Fran Tarkenton mantra. Still think we paid too much for him and he became an insufferable prima donna toward the end but no question, to use a current term, he made the Giants "relevant" again. I was away at school and missed most of the 67 season so this was fun to watch.

Yeah, always hated that mantra..Once you get a rep, you never lose it
That '67 team gave us alot of hope for the oncoming years. It
