Joe Gibbs - no secret that the Skins are my most hated team, but Gibbs is a class act and a tremendous football coach. Only guy to win three titles with three different QBs.
Sparky Anderson - he was one of a kind.
Jim Schoenfeld - the Don Koharski incident and its aftermath was absolutely hilarious.
Gregg Popovich - simply the best. Might be the very best I've ever seen in any sport.

He's been amazing..Wasn't Pop just a GM when he took over? Did he have any coaching experience at the lower levels that you know of?
NFL: Bud Grant. Loved watching those frigid playoff games at the old Bloomington Stadium. Vikes with no coats or gloves. The Great NFL Films recaps.
MLB: Billy Martin. Look past the caricature, he was an old school baseball genius. Pennington's book made me respect him even more.
NHL: John Brophy. Obscure, but colorful, was coach of the Long Island Ducks at my 1st game of any kind in 1969 when I was 5 years old. Later on I learned that he and the Ducks were the inspiration for Slap Shot.
NBA: Cotton Fitzsimmons. Colorful guy, good coach.
is probably who I consider the best coach ever, but hard to say when he's had great collections of talent to work with.
but 9 rings as a coach with three different teams is impressive.
also the NHL playoffs were kind of a joke when so many teams made it, but missing the playoffs one time in his entire coaching career is impressive too and that included a stint in Buffalo.
RE: Pop was a Division III head coach and an NBA assistant
NBA Greg Popovich
MLB Earl Weaver
NHL Scotty Bowman
NBA: Frank Layden or Dr. Jack
MLB: Zimmer (89 Cubs)
NHL: Arbour

Curious why Ted Nolan..I remember when he was highly sought after when he was in Buffalo(?) and I was delighted when we snared him
Other sports? Meh. Sparky Anderson, for sure. Don Zimmer, I guess, though it's colored by all the years he spent in pinstripes after Boston.

Madden could very well be a fave after Lombardi
