but if this kid was black, shit would have gone down WAY differently.
Gotta disagree here. With recent events across the nation, the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, etc, I think it would've gone down the same way. There were cameras everywhere and the staff showed incredible restraint after he put his hands on several people multiple times. Are you suggesting that, had he been black, they would have simply roughed him up and called the police? Like I said, the current racial climate, the managers restraint, and the presence of dozens of cameras make me think that if the student in question was black it would've gone down the same way or the staff would've shown more restraint, lest become the newest face of oppressive, systematic racism perpetrated by whites in "power" (ie-a university cafe manager) against a disenfranchised black youth.

I am absolutely familiar with this case, I'm pretty sure I posted about it on this board when it happened, and it's despicable. I've always maintained that there needs to be greater oversight of police.
What does this prove though? That people aren't treated differently based on what they look like? You're posting one isolated incident as if it's proof that people aren't treated differently.
I don't think the course of events would have been the same if this kid was black. I'm not apologizing for that.
Also, Peter in ATL, whatever you tell yourself. Your MO is insulting people and trying to be mean. Go for it dude, idc. Have fun lashing out at anyone who doesn't agree with you.
The fact that you're all getting pissy because I said this would have been different if the kid was black isn't unexpected, but isn't really something that people should strike a nerve so much. What's the alternative - that everything would have been the same? Nah, I don't think so.

No, I just don't think they'd show the same patience with him, and he may have been roughed up a little more. Mostly bc I think he'd be perceived as a bigger threat if he was black, but that's just my personal opinion.

YOU used Martese Johnson as an example as to why this situation may have been different if the kid in the OP was black.
However, Martese Johnson was NOT mistreated because he was black. He was mistreated because the ABC in C-ville is f-cked up.

Fixed.
Part of why this is an incredibly asinine conversation
is there is no proof at all to support any conjecture. That's all it is, conjecture.
The only way we will resolve this is to do the experiment. Sonic, as you say, you're not white, and while I'm not sure Indian is the best way sample to test, since you are looking fort something to do besides work, you might want to try to test your hypothesis by driving to Storrs so you can belligerently demand some bacon jalapeno mac n cheese. Drink first (or do your pot thing) so that we can limit the variables compared to Mr. Gatti.
I'm not a dick to everyone. I am to racially biased shitforbrains such as you. I've been here for 2 decades.
lol @ racially biased. That's hilarious. My roommates white, 80% of my friends are white, numerous in-laws of mine are white, my cousins are half white, probably 75% of my girlfriends were white. But yeah, I hate white people, lol.
Whatever dude. Just come up with another creative insult like "shitforbrains" to toss at me because I have an opinion that this kid would have been treated differently.

Yeah, I mean I never said it wasn't. It's just my own conjecture. I'm not trying to prove anything or convince anyone of anything.
That's all, just my opinion on the matter. As I said, I'm not trying to prove anything.

Oddly, this is the first time I've ever heard, I can be a racist; some of my best friends are...in this direction.
He previously hit a cop and in another incident he called a cop that was busting up a house party the n-word.
Apparently they saw him bring a beer into the cafeteria. I guess he doesn't realize that restaurants have the right to refuse service to anyone.

We know that you certainly would have reacted differently.
I think the manager is one of those really racist pricks who would've escorted a young black man to the door, where the buddies he called 5 minutes ago would be waiting outside in their General Lee car in white hoods to fuck up the thug.

black people appear more threatening to white people. Who knows what would have happened if he were black? You'd like to think that they'd be treated similarly but I'm not sure if the actual statistics would say the same thing.
His ignorant ass could stand to learn a few life lessons. And by "life lessons" I mean losing some teeth.
That's the thing, you never know who you're fucking with, or who will intervene on their behalf. A guy in our old college dorms went out of his way to chase a high school kid who was spitting on people riding bikes under an overpass he was standing on. He probably had 4 years and at least 80 pounds on the kid, and used them enough to get thrown in jail.
but if this kid was black, shit would have gone down WAY differently.

Where does it stop with you? If you can say that about this guy, who again you do not know, it's presumable to say you'd feel inclined to say that about anyone. Not every interaction is influenced by racism. In fact the only racism here is your assumption. Again, what do you know about this man to come to that conclusion? I think it's really shitty to put that on the manager, who again showed incredible restraint and displayed impeccable professionalism. To think he would've "come down harder" or acted differently if the kid was black is simply racism. Dumb racism. Like, Al Sharpton racism.
black people appear more threatening to white people. Who knows what would have happened if he were black? You'd like to think that they'd be treated similarly but I'm not sure if the actual statistics would say the same thing.
How can you have statistics? Pretty much everyone says that the way *this* kid was treated was an anomaly in the sense that more often than not he would have been nut-punched right away.
You obviously feel that way so you think all others should too. That's where the perception of bias comes into play.
Since you would feel more threatened by a similarly sized black kid, you think it is an accepted fact most people would.
I'll be honest with you, in a school building situation, I think that is unlikely. The location plays a big part of it. You would think you are dealing with a student who should have an acceptable grasp of rules and social protocols.
The only argument I'd offer is that the same kid, white or black, would probably be handled differently in a fast food joint at 1AM in a sketchy part of town.
There's the one who needs to drink every day. There's the one that can't stop once he / she starts. There's the one that acts like a complete asshole after two or three drinks. Some encompass all 3. This kid definitely acts like an asshole when he drinks. Loses all control. He may be an angel when he's sober. He may only drink on weekends or even less frequently but one thing is for certain he needs to stop drinking once and for all. Jail prison a punch to the face whatever, as long as he stops drinking. If not he will be dead before 30 and it won't be from liver cancer.
I don't need to defend myself. It's just supporting evidence to how fucking laughable it is to paint me as "racist" based on what I said, which is actually not that outlandish.
not to mention there's a bit of a difference between "I have black friends!!" and "I literally have 2 uncles and an aunt that are white and 6 half white cousins".
Whatever you want dude. I made one comment that it would have been different if he's black. That's my opinion. It's admittedly conjecture but it's not like there haven't been occurrences that made me formulate that opinion.

If this kid were black, there is a good chance he'd suffer a harsher penalty. This is not debatable.

Drunk black kid "appears more threatening" than drunk white kid. So what's the response in this hypothetical? You really think so,some who is intimidated is *more* likely to be disrespectful or become physical? With someone he's intimidated by/scared of? It makes no sense. And what "statistics" are you even referencing? Who keeps track of attacks on unruly customers by white fast food managers? Is that the census bureau or the NAACP?
Based on the footage in that video presuming a different reaction had the drunken ass in question had been black is nothing but blatant racism itself.
You obviously feel that way so you think all others should too. That's where the perception of bias comes into play.

Yeah, the school setting could definitely impact it, that's a good point.
this would have been handled if the race of the drunk kid was different? What purpose does that question serve?
It's not an answerable question beyond one's opinion.
And it's an inflammatory speculative.
the facts are the facts, beyond that nothing is known. Maybe if he were black they would have felt threatened and never even approached him with the open beer bottle and just gave him some bacon jalapeno mac n cheese, or maybe they would have shot him, or maybe they would have called the cops.
no one knows. bringing it up with a "I know how it would have went down" attitude IS racially biased. That is also undeniable.
black people appear more threatening to white people. Who knows what would have happened if he were black? You'd like to think that they'd be treated similarly but I'm not sure if the actual statistics would say the same thing.
I believe this happened at a cafeteria at UConn. Anyone who thinks a black student would be treated worse in the PC world of higher education, in particular in New England, is nuts.

So the manager couldn't be married to black girl? He couldn't have black aunts and uncles? You labelled that guy pretty quickly.
Have you read the other posts here agreeing with me that you have a racial bias issue? Do you really lack that much self awareness?
Gotta disagree here. With recent events across the nation, the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, etc, I think it would've gone down the same way.
Yeah, the school setting could definitely impact it, that's a good point.
I believe this happened at a cafeteria at UConn. Anyone who thinks a black student would be treated worse in the PC world of higher education, in particular in New England, is nuts.

black people appear more threatening to white people.
"Prison sentences of black men were nearly 20% longer than those of white men for similar crimes in recent years, an analysis by the U.S. Sentencing Commission found."
If this kid were black, there is a good chance he'd suffer a harsher penalty. This is not debatable. Racial Gap in Men's Sentencing - ( New Window )

defense.
So the manager couldn't be married to black girl? He couldn't have black aunts and uncles? You labelled that guy pretty quickly.
Have you read the other posts here agreeing with me that you have a racial bias issue? Do you really lack that much self awareness?
Words to live by kids.
At the least we'd be calling him a thug instead of an asshole.
