Where's Mario Williams' fine for dropping Jennings on his head?
$9k is a very cheap lesson
nyynyg : 10/7/2015 11:09 am : link
to learn what not to do on the field and to keep a bit in check. Emotions for good is one thing, but not being able to control it is not.

$9k is a cheap lesson before getting something very expensive personally or what could cost the team.
Can we start up a BBI to pay for this fine?
Geomon : 10/7/2015 11:13 am : link
I think we should, as a sign of solidarity with the team, ya know.
I'd like to see him dial it back a bit.
Crispino : 10/7/2015 11:14 am : link
He's got a bullseye on his back with opposing players already. He doesn't need the officials and the league on his back too. Just keep it under control.

What happened to the Giants "Talk is Cheap, PLAY THE GAME" mantra? I know it predated him, but he needs to shut the fuck up, knock off the extra shit after the play and just play the damn game. It's fine to show emotion, but have some class. Don't do stuff that can hurt the team (penalties or ejections) or make yourself a bigger target than you already are.

The Giants have been running their mouths for years. Osi and Jacobs and Strahan were all major talkers.
The worst part...

wasn't the punch, it was running away right after. He should have been fined more just for that!

does the NFL have a category of fines that cover "acting chickenshit"?

The Giants talked all throughout the 2011 playoffs and won a SB, the talk is cheap mantra has been gone for a long time
2011?
Greg from LI : 10/7/2015 11:29 am : link
They talked quite a bit before the SB in 2007, too. The whole "wearing black on the plane because we're going to a funeral" bit was an entire team talking shit collectively for crissakes.
Selective amnesia

and talking shit. There is a difference between that and some of the ancillary antics that OBJ is displaying. Let's face it, he's not lighting things up either, he should just hunker in, focus and play the game like last year. Will make talking smack that much worthwhile.
Yup
Greg from LI : 10/7/2015 11:33 am : link
Strahan was a yapper, Pierce was a yapper, Jacobs was a yapper. Love those guys, but they're hardly the stoic, silent type.

How can they miss that? But then again, in Seattle....

with talking shit to the guy opposite you, it's done all the time. I remember how Burress talked up Al Harris so bad, Harris was so upset he was crying and lashing out.
If Odell got fined, good

Hopefully this is a learning point for him, and he controls his emotions better and is less brash.

Certainly don't admire other high profile WRs with similar trash talking head cases with attitudes like Baltimore's (formally Carolina's) Smith. IMO, Smith is a complete ass and would not want that type persona on the Giants. Certainly don't want OBJr to behave that way.

Here is a link to a site that does a good job tracking the NFL fines. Note the huge spike for Miami.

Eh, that includes "suspensions" as fines and the Miami spike is entirely due to Dion Jordan's suspension.
Do we know
old man : 10/7/2015 12:01 pm : link
what went on inside those piles after hits and tackles on him to maybe incite a little retaliation?
I agree about him needing to learn self control; just sometimes you have to fight back anyway.
Refs will now target him as well and the NFL will be killing it's Golden Goose by refs targeting him.(Wont help the team much either).
fine might

be good for him.
Yes, talking is fine
David B. : 10/7/2015 12:14 pm : link
But getting into altercations after the play is not. Remember the fight in the Rams game last year that he was in the middle of? Most of the diva WRs in the league don't do that.

I'm more referring to the "just play the game" part of the mantra in Beckham's case.

I don't know why you don't get this , it's about actions that will now have you targeted by officials and other teams.

This is gonna hurt Odell and the Giants in the near future.

Beckham was going to be targeted regardless
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/7/2015 12:48 pm : link
He's the best scoring threat on the team. It's not like him being boisterous was blowing his cover or spoiling a secret. Everybody knows who he is and what he's done Other players were always going to take shots at him, and be envious of the spotlight he gets and try to make a name for themselves by being the guy that shuts him down.

The only thing I care about is that he doesn't do dumb stuff like crack his fist against a helmet.
Odell is going to get targeted
nygiants16 : 10/7/2015 12:51 pm : link
even if he is the quietest guy on the field, he could be a choir boy and say nice things to everyone and he is still going to be a target...

When you put up the numbers he did last year and now all the celebrity that comes with it, you have a target on your back, no matter how you act..

and he went to coughlin after the game and had a meeting with him about what happened during the game and they sat down and talked about what he did..
How many personal fouls did he get called for?
ron mexico : 10/7/2015 12:55 pm : link
How many did he cause Buffalo to get called for?

I don't remember the exact circumstance, but the PF flag after the botched snap in the red zone was huge for us

Fine was..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/7/2015 12:56 pm : link
warranted. Hopefully ODB learns and moves on.

It will be interesting to see if any Bills are fined though, since you had several with intentional personal fouls and one bodyslam. My take is that ODB was fined because the Bills complained.

Tough team there Rex.

OBJ has not lived up to the hype so far this season.

More than anything the Giants need to get him going. Randle and Harris are what they are. There is no next level for them.

Beckham has to get back to being a dominate WR. He's played 1 good game out of 4 and in that game he was held without a catch in the second half of the game.

He's on pace for a 100 catch, 1200 yard season. How much else do you expect after 4 games in which he's seen double coverage on damn near every snap? He's averaging 6 catches a game and over 12 yards per catch. He's gone for over 80 yards in half the games thus far with a season high of 147. Both his TDs went for over 30 yards, with one for 67. Furthermore, going back to include last season, his 115 catches, 1500 yards, and 14 TDs are the most by a WR in his first 15 games in NFL history. So it's not like he's slowed down. He's simply not going to go for 8 catches for 125 yards every week.
Last week..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/7/2015 1:14 pm : link
Beckham broke the record for the most production over the first 16 games of any WR in league history and he's on pace for 100 catches again. And he's constantly drawing two defenders, freeing up open routes for other receivers

The only hype he's not living up to is unreasonable hype.

It's pretty funny, actually. You have BBIers complaining about The Catch, over-exposure, etc, then you have some of the same people saying he's not doing enough. As we both pointed out, he's not only on pace for a 100 catch, 1,200 yard season but he just set a record for WR production over his first 16 games-115 catches, over 1,500 yards, and 14 TDs.

Perfect example of some people just never being satisfied.
sounds like the league telling him
eli4life : 10/7/2015 1:18 pm : link
We get he's being targeted but knock off the extra shit afterwards
I hate shit like this
Old Dirty Beckham : 10/7/2015 1:19 pm : link
but eliminate his biggest game and the majority of the games he's played in have been poor production.

Thus far one game is upping his average.

He's a phenomenal talent. But they need more big plays out of him as he's the threat on the offense to make big plays.

Fatman

What he did in the 12 games last year doesn't have anything to do with the first four games this year.
again
Old Dirty Beckham : 10/7/2015 1:20 pm : link
look beyond numbers. As big as his game was against the Falcons from a statistical stand point he disappeared in the second half.

They need more out of him. Doenst mean he's not a top tier WR/player. But thus far he hasn't played anywhere close to the level he did a year ago.

And in his first four games..
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/7/2015 1:22 pm : link
he's on pace for 100 catches.

Sounds like the guy is off to a terrible start.

You do realize that he's putting those numbers up against double-teams and usually matched up with the #1 CB, right?

Ahhh, better not answer that.
He's probably not going to play up to last year every year
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/7/2015 1:23 pm : link
I challenge you to find top WRs who match their career highs over and over. Players fluctuate. Rice didn't have copycat years.
fatman
Old Dirty Beckham : 10/7/2015 1:25 pm : link
the 100 catches are great (I guess) but how many plays over 20 yards has beckham made? He's catching 5 yard hitches in front of defenders.

They need more big plays out of him. Don't think that's unfair, unobvious or anything to get defensive about.
It's not being defensive...
FatMan in Charlotte : 10/7/2015 1:31 pm : link
it is a reaction to this:

Quote:

He's played more than 1 good game, he just hasn't exploded for the 150 yards per game people saw last year. You said look beyond the numbers - but when you look beyond them, you see a guy constantly double-teamed and occupying a top CB usually. You have secondary WR's free, and they've been open. Parker, in particular, had several chances he didn't capitalize on. Randle is starting to.

He's played well, both stat-wise and effect wise.
Beckham
Old Dirty Beckham : 10/7/2015 1:32 pm : link
is tied for 17th in the NFL in receiving yards. Of the top 17 only two are avg less yards per catch.

Players like Brandon Marshall, Jeremy Maclin, Allen Robinson, James Jones, Allen Hurns, Travis Benjamin are ahead of him.

Not exactly what we expected. Long season ahead of him but I think the Giants need to get him on track and producing more big plays for this offense.
Good. He needs to adjust his behavior on the field
JFIB : 10/7/2015 1:33 pm : link
He acts as though you're not allowed to hit him or something. If you take a good shot, jump up and act like its nothing. Contact is part of the game. Every time he takes a good hit he jumps up to retaliate.
fatman
Old Dirty Beckham : 10/7/2015 1:35 pm : link
you don't think he was being doubled and guarded by top corners last year?

They need more big plays from him. 32 NFL players have more catches of 20+ yards. 19 players have just as many as he does.
He
Old Dirty Beckham : 10/7/2015 1:37 pm : link
didn't play well in either the cowboy game or the bills game. He was a non factor in those games.

He had the kind of half we expected of him against Atlanta and then had zero catches in a tight loss.

He can and will do better. I'd like to see that start happening sooner than later.
i'm not worried about odell

he had a bad game against buffalo by his standards, but he'll show up against SF. Book it.
