I'll be staying with a friend with no TV. So on her laptop, everything from Homeland etc to Giants, Rangers and Badgers. I think the latter will be on ABC -- vs Nebraska.
Your only option is to subscribe to cable. With that you can make use of streaming options cable provides you and/or use a Sling Box to steam your cable stations out yourself.
If you don't want cable, you could still do it, but you'd need a patchwork of streaming services. The sports is the hardest and most expensive part. For example NBA TV for the Knicks, NHL GameCenter for the Rangers, etc.
and a bit more dependable than the sites I have been using (Yesterday FirstRow flamd out re the Yankee Game).
There have been times when I have tried a link and there was a request for a US provider.
So if I'm understanding:
1. When services are available, they require a separate monetary subscription
2. They require a TV service, not a cell service like Verizon. )Here in Canada, the NHL service can be an add-on depending on what kind of plan you have either as TV or Cell.)
I'll be in NYC this long-weekend with someone who has Verizon -- so I'm wondering if that could give me access to any programming (esp sports).
Verizon internet, without a tv package? If your friend doesn't subscribe to tv through verizon, I wouldn't think you would have access to streaming anything just by connecting through her internet.

Am I correct??
Well, actually I don't see how it's different here. NHL is an add on service here as well. And you can stream it on your phone or you can subscribe via cable TV.

Not just expensive, but a bad value.

I use Hola with Firefox to stream most stuff from the US with no issues.

BTW, I got off Hola after reading this:

I guess that is not the case in the US. I can't believe that any telecomm promotion is actually better in Canada. Our rates/plans suck.

Now you've confused me. You can Internet with any US cell service. With which you can access any streaming service you subscribe to.
