Rules Question - illegal man down field

On the Vereen screen that got called back to due to Richburg being down field (it was #70 not #74), Vereen caught the ball 2 yards behind the LOS. There is now picture evidence of it.

Does that mean you can have a man illegally downfield? I was always under the assumption that as long as the ball was caught behind the line, it didnt matter where the lineman were. If this is legal pass, why cant it be reviewed like you can with too many men on field or illegal forward pass?

must be awful fast because I have seen slow evolving screen plays with lineman 5-8-10 yds past the line of scrimmage with the ball just leaving the QBs hand.

I think the "Screen pass" exception is only for NCAA

NFL does not have that exception.

If the OL initiates a block within 1 yard of the LOS, he can continue blocking past the LOS. If the defender disengages (prior to the pass) though, then the OL must stop and wait until the pass is completed before continuing further downfield.

I thought that call was legit.

However, later on in the game on a big 3rd down the Bills ran a similar play and their WRs were blocking our DBs well before the ball was in the air. No OPI call and it was clear as day. Luckily we were able to stop them on the play anyway or I would have been furious.
