For the Gala last week Coach was asked, "What's your favorite saying or phrase?" His answer: "One phrase I constantly use is when someone asks me how I’m doing I’ll say, “Never better.” And what “Never better” means is strength and spirit and no matter what happens you are never going to influence my spirit; it’s always going to be strong - be as forthright and positive as can be." |
It is not a brutal job - it's a highly paid job with a lot of great perks and after you are done, you can make a pretty damn good living being a speaker, analyst, consultant etc.
Still, in today's NFL it's pretty damn rare.
2nd best coach in NFL, and 2-0 in big game against the best coach. HOF coach

in regards to Eli and TC.
Is there something to the idea that chaos and pressure brings out the best of both of them? I think by now, most of us who are realistic, realize everything these guys bring to the table day in and day out. But what is it about the two of them that seems to better once they are placed in the pressure cooker.
Obviously it remains to be seen what happens this season but here we go again in an 0-2 hole, everyone on notice, Coughlin can't survive this time, etc. As of this morning, we find ourselves with every opportunity to take this division and get in the tournament and if we do it would be so similar to the storylines of 2007 when TC was left for dead and 2011 bouncing back from the late season failures against Philly/GB in 2010.
Coughlin has his faults as a head coach. At different times he has seemed unreasonably strict, he has had his share of game management blunders (hands team Philly 2010), trouble selecting coordinators and a couple of other gaffes early this season. But back him into a corner and the man is like a cage fighter. His teams seem to feed off of his toughness and resolve. Just when you doubt his teams. Watch out.
Eli, same thing. We've seen him play some of his worst football in quarters 1-3 only to come back brilliantly in the 4th quarter. We've also seen probably his best overall play in the playoffs, on the road, in big games, in the elements and of course in the Super Bowls.
I find it interesting. The more doubt that surrounds the TC/Eli teams, the better they operate. Chaos, underdogs, pressure, they seem to embrace it.
But right now, I think the Giants have the perfect formula with Spags and McAdoo. Gilbride always ran a version of the offense Coughlin installed in 2004. McAdoo is running his own offense. In time that will pay big dividends because this offense is much more QB friendly.
I can definitely see this trio staying together for another 4-5 years.

One of my main criticisms of Coughlin is that he has a very spotty track record with selecting his coordinators. I feel very good with McAdoo and Spags by his side.
For the record,I think TC is one of the best in the game today and will retire as the best in NY Giants' history.
I think you've been comatose for a long time.
8 years actually...
For the record i think this is his last season whatever the outcome....i think we win the East and he tells each and every doubter to line up and kiss his ass again
Great post.
