NFT: Facts on MRSA... Sort of NFT, but Giants related…

I'm not a doctor, but I have constant contact with healthcare professionals in the treatment of my MS. Also, before I got MS I was in long-term care in my career so I'm not exactly uninformed.

About four years ago, I had a small pimple under my left breast which grew and developed into a boil that turned out to be MRSA. After an ER visit where the boil was lanced by a surgeon and packed, I spent seven days in the hospital on IV antibiotics. Not a great time, but having learned about the infection, I did see that it was possibly passed to me by contact with one of my caregivers… One who worked in a long-term care facility with patients and clients with MRSA while working part-time for me. Even though I'm sure they practiced strict infection control procedures regarding precaution protocol, especially with exposure to MRSA, it proved to me that nothing is foolproof as far as contracting infections.

However, in light of Daniel Fells incident and all the precautions that have been done at the Quest training facility regarding this, I went back to a website to do some research and discovered that it's possible that he contracted the MRSA well being treated for his condition. The linked website states what the causes of the staph infection superbug is. It was from there and my own experience I drew my own conclusions:

100% smooth cotton (clothing)
100% cotton terry (towels and wash cloths)
60% cotton-40% polyester blend (scrub suits, lab coats and clothing)
100% polyester (privacy drapes, curtains and clothing)
100% polypropylene plastic (splash aprons).
Swatches of fabric were injected with 10,000 to 100,000 colony-forming units (CFU) of the microorganism and observed daily. Results showed S. aureus survived on the materials for the following number of days:

Cotton: 4-21 days
Terry: 2-14 days
Polyester blend: 1-3 days
Polyester: 1-40 days
Polypropylene: 40-greater than 51.

I don't know what fabric the Giants uniforms are made of, but this seems to be the most logical conclusion. Of course, I am an optimist as always.
