FWIW Myles White

Reale01 : 10/8/2015 6:06 pm
A friend of mine is a huge Packer fan and he has told me that White knows the Packer system well and has good hands. He said he is not a great talent bu will do "OK". Said he had to put on 15 pounds just to be strong enough to play in the league and that he is a hustler and a worker.

Also said thank you for James Jones and he thinks Reese was an idiot for letting him go. I told him that most Giant fans agreed with Reese decision and believe he will be vindicated when Jones is out of the league in another 5 years.
not to consciously beat the dead horse

but it seems most fans including myself feel keeping Parker for Jones was a huge mistake.

me too. The "Thank you so much for James Jones ..." crap is really getting old.

My friend is a nice guy, but is a "single team football fan", knowing virtually everything about the Packers and next to nothing about any other team.

The Packers are the "best owned", best organized, best coached, have the best quarterback etc.

Obviously they have won the most Championships, but I can usually shut him up by reminding him of the two playoff losses we hung on them and how special they were: 1) Brett Favre's last game / last pass an INT and 2) spoiled a 15-1 season etc.

Can we get over this misconception
David in LA : 10/8/2015 6:22 pm : link
that Reese was the one who cut JJ loose?
Vindicated when he is out of the league in 5 years?
ron mexico : 10/8/2015 6:23 pm : link
LOL

Do you know how long that is in NFL terms?

I think you just identified the problem.

McAdoo said "What about JJ?" and Coughlin said "I don't want him," thinking he meant Jerrell Jernigan.
Have to assume McAdoo
TMS : 10/8/2015 8:58 pm : link
who knows Jones (from the Packers) very well, had input into him staying or going along with Coughlin and Reese. You win some you lose some, but the final returns are not in yet.
James Jones has said he asked Giants to release him
tempit : 10/9/2015 12:13 am : link
he did not want to be the 4th WR.

No one knew that Cruz was not going to to go ( even if he did not play in preseason ).

James Jones may have still have asked to be released, even if it was clear that Cruz was not going to go.

James Jones knew the best fit and the last chance he had to win was to go with Packers.

Don't think you keep a player that does not want to be on your team.
LOL at James Jones playing another 5 years
Ten Ton Hammer : 10/9/2015 12:18 am : link
The fuck?
Tempit - thank you
Gross Blau Oberst : 10/9/2015 6:48 am : link
I was going to post that. Seems everyone forgot thus and wants to blame Reese or Coughlin.

JJ did not want to be #4 on the Giants and asked for release.

Keeping it Reale

This is hilarious:

And if or when Jones
old man : 10/9/2015 11:50 am : link
drops a critical pass in a key game, they will say "the Giants knew what they were doing when they cut this guy".
Is White a slot guy or outside guy?

Hey Vergina, You may not like the collegial old boy network, but it exists and it's a real practice in certain circumstance to allow colleagues you respect to ask you to help them succeed. I'm not sure why this practice offends certain senibilities.
Did people read what was said about cutting Jones?
Daniel in MI : 10/10/2015 1:43 am : link
He himself said it was a move done out of respect as ODB, RR, and VC are our top 3 and Jones didn't want to wonder if he'd start or be in the plans week to week.

LMAO! Perhaps there's a communication problem that's now manifesting in the 4th quarter.
If Jones actually was cut at his request so he could return to GB...
Big Blue Blogger : 10/10/2015 7:18 am : link
...the only thing about it that bothers me is that the Giants should have gotten something in return - a conditional draft pick, a young prospect, a jumbo block of Wisconsin cheddar, a gift certificate for Outback Steakhouse... something.

Miles White?
Aquidneck: If Myles White was compensation for James Jones...
Big Blue Blogger : 10/10/2015 7:44 am : link
...the Giants and Packers handled it strangely, running White through the waiver wire and the Giants' practice squad. I guess you could say it worked out as a trade in the end.

Yeah, that's all I was saying. In effect a trade, though in actuality probably a matter of chance.

Like a trade, still could work out well or poorly
The Packers might have agreed not to re-sign White to their PS...
Big Blue Blogger : 10/10/2015 7:55 am : link
...if he cleared waivers. That's all I got.

Assuming McAdoo actually wanted White, it worked out pretty well: White got a month of practice time with the Giants, without occupying a roster spot.

BBB - check out the Kratch article. Kinda talking about the same things we are.
James Jones for Myles White - ( New Window )
On the other hand, since Preston Parker occupied that spot...
Big Blue Blogger : 10/10/2015 7:58 am : link
...it might have been better to claim White off waivers.
Thanks Aquidneck.
Big Blue Blogger : 10/10/2015 8:00 am : link
The fifth bullet is agent-speak, but it also makes sense. If a practice squad gig was the best he could do, the Giants were a smart choice.
