You cant play in shotgun and pistol the entire game because you completely lose the play action element. So you zone block the entire game to be game theory optimal with the loss of the play action, but when your oline doesnt dominate, you look like shit.
Chip's offense is far better suited in college where he can exploit mismatches in the skill level of position players easily. In the NFL, you jsut cant do that and expect to win consistently.
His entire ability to coach is predicated on his offense, which has been figured out by the league. Once you take away Chip's offense, what is he as a coach? He cant/wont run vanilla things.
I'd say if he has something like an 8-8 year the clock has already expired on him for NFL success. He's not going to change his offense because of his ego.
And it makes total sense. Chip's offense is suited more for college than the NFL. USC has the potential to be a "suped-up" Oregon. No telling what he would be able to do with the type of recruits he would get there. Seems like a natural fit.
For a very long time, UM was able to recruit the best HS players in the country and they were a powerhouse to be feared year in and year out..Since I don't follow college ball, I can ONLY go off perception of what's happened there. Why has their program suddenly appear(again, perception on my part) to be unable to recruit as they once did?
He took over a 4-12 dumpster fire and turned out back-to-back 10-6 seasons.
But because they are now 1-3, he's done? He is a radical coach and he is trying to convert the Eagles roster to fit better with his style and sometimes that requires taking a step back to take two forward.

People are quick to write him off because seemingly all of his trades/FA moves have decreased the talent on the team. Offensively, Maclin, DJax, McCoy, Mathis, Herremons are gone and all of their replacements are arguably significantly worse.
Defensively, Maxwell has been awful and Alonso (not surprisingly) injured again.
Also that 4-12 team was without their franchise LT. Getting Peters back was a big reason their OL improved so dramatically year 1 of Kelly's reign.
of sports where the Media takes a small body of work and makes them a God and then tears them down on a similar small body of work or an incident that creates a fall from grace.
The list is long - Jeremy Lin, Tebow, Sanchez, Rex, Winston, RGIII, Harbaugh,
By sensationalizing everyone, you marginalize the truly great players over those with brief moments of great play.
would make for a great couple of weeks of Philadelphia sports talk.
The dumpster fire he turned around had its entire offensive line injured in 2012. 10 of the 11 offensive starters on that team were on the roster the previous year. The team was 1-3 before getting a bunch of wins against bad teams and backup quarterbacks.

That 4-12 team wasn't that awful, they just stopped playing for Andy Reid and it snowballed. Team had a lot of skill position players........but Chip has gotten rid of quite a few of them lol
That team folded once they realized they couldn't overcome their injuries. Basically, the first time during Reid's tenure they completely quit.
The one thing about Kelly is something Fatman's pointed out a few times. It seems he lacks the ability to admit he made a mistake or miscalculated, and he's going to stick by his guns no matter what. His inability to adjust will probably magnify the problems, and the result won't just be losing this season, but compromising any confidence the team has in his ability to turn things around. He's going to become his own feedback loop of incompetence, to the point where he's going to have to go back to college to avoid the stink.
The 2012 Eagles had completely packed it in. It was a flawed team, but they had a good deal more talent than the typical 4-12 team. They were a very good candidate for a quick turnaround.
that the biggest, or one of the biggest, doners to Texas football team wants Kelly.
There was also an article that Kelly has already told the Eagles he isn't going anywhere.
Something's got to give I suppose.
Not that I know him personally, but Kelly doesn't strike me as a guy that's just going to quit (ala Saban). I think he'll have to be fired before returning to college (or offered BIG $$) and I think he's got at least this year and next to prove his methods.
So far though, he's proven to be pretty bad at buying his own groceries.
and finish the year out of the playoffs - do we want Kelly out?
He's got the keys to the entire operation - if he's hurting more than helping, another year of him could potentially blast them back to the stone ages.
Do we want Kelly out if he doesn't turn around this season?

Their biggest issue was injuries to the OL (and Reid's inability to coach D). Peters was lost for the year before the season started and a couple other guys also finished on IR. As Giants fans know all to well, if you can't block, it doesn't matter who you have at the skill positions.
They also had some square pegs in round holes on D (e.g. DRC) and some young guys (Cox) that have since developed into stars.
It wouldn't make me sad in the least to see Chip go...
but the best of all worlds would be for him to stay and the Eagles to stick with him while he builds "his team". Hopefully that process would last a good 20 years or so and the entire time they would be a mediocre (6-7 win) team that can't beat the Giants.
Chip comes across as the arrogant type who would not quit easily and believe in his system irregardless of results. This would make it much more likely that he stay through a crash and burn than quit prematurely.
Hoping the NFL has truly figured him out and the record is not more a reflection of their injury woes.

If he's going to make some more moves like Maxwell and Bradford, and the big money deals for Murray/Matthews, then I have no problem with him staying. Though, unfortunately their cap guy is pretty good as I believe they can get out of the Maxwell deal after the 2016 season with little cap damage.

Aren't they relatively healthy compared to the Boys and Giants?
Their biggest problem seems to be Chip thinking his pro-bowl guards were easily replaceable. That OL went from a huge strength to a major liability. Even when healthy, Murray had no chance behind that OL as he was routinely hit 5 yards in the backfield.
It also doesn't help that Bradford isn't really a threat on the option likely out of precaution due to all his injuries. Makes that offense fairly predictable.
interesting we have not played a full season yet. kind of hard to tell right now..it may click for them we shall see. Knowing our luck we can't their Murray wearing a different uniform.
I suspect a big part of it is 1) rising pedigrees at a number of other schools, and 2) not every staff is excellent at recruiting, thus, they lose to FSU. Things run in cycles. Recent UM staffs didn't strike me as being particularly charismatic, perhaps recruiting and getting kids fired up to sign letters of intent wasn't happening.
...to bring his egotistical smirk to the NFL and have it wiped off his face. They all learn too late that at this level it starts with personnel and their exploitative tricks have a shelf life of about ten games. Then the cat is out of the bag and it's all hands to the buckets and let's start bailing.
what he didn't post was that this admin at Miami loathes Miami's old image. They've done everything they can to run in the opposite direction from it.
To the point where any player with even the slightest bit of character questions, is not offered. Sometimes that's a good thing as Dalvin Cook proved this offseason.
Mostly it's a bad thing IMO. Basically the current Miami Admin would be content if the FB team went sub .500 every year as long as they kept out of the headlines and the ACC checks kept cashing.

Hah, if he goes to Texas, then I'd be on the Charlie Strong bandwagon for USC.
But because they are now 1-3, he's done? He is a radical coach and he is trying to convert the Eagles roster to fit better with his style and sometimes that requires taking a step back to take two forward.

We dont want him RT @ProFootballTalk: Chip Kelly to USC speculation has already begun http://wp.me/p14QSB-9Ssd
No RB - outside of B. Sanders - succeeds getting hit in the backfield.
Bradford does not threaten to run and is not good throwing on the run. Foles fit the system better
The Defense is still not good.
Saying all that, means nothing if the Giants cant beat them
