Nash tends to raise his game against Columbus, so I hope to see something from the top line tonight after a forgettable opener. Actually, Nash wasn't bad in that one, really. He created a handful of excellent scoring chances, but Zuccarello and Brassard were invisible.
Good to see that Glass isnt coming in for grit. CBJ is a physical team. I really think Etem could struggle to play 25% of the time if no one is hurt. I wouldnt let that fester too long -- if we're healthy in a month we should look into making a deal. He is not Eddie Olczyk who is a finished product you can trot out there every 10-14 days no problem.
if they deal Etem, they're not getting much for him
Etem should be in a lineup. This bottom 6 is as deep as I can remember. Lindberg just had an amazing camp, and Stoll was a special discount signing.
I bet Etem gets a decent return. A discount from this summer, but there are a bunch of teams that are running out forwards simply because they have no better options. Etem is a guy that a bottom 15 team would be happy to give a shot to.
In any event, I assume someone will get hurt and Etem will get a bunch of time.
its a matter of when not if for Etem. Hopefully he gets the burn, not #15.
How cute of FEKker to be rooting for a fellow wild card contender tonight. He may come to regret that - only two of CBJ, NYI, Boston, Ottawa and Florida can get in, unfortunately.

I agree. I thought Nash made some nice plays with the puck in Chicago and was surprised that he was criticized after the game.
The line as a group didn't do much, and Nash is the big name on the line. Even though his linemates were the main culprits, his name is the one that gets brought up.
Should be interesting to see the feisty third line against a physical team like Columbus. Miller, Lindberg and Stalberg were all throwing some hits in Chicago. BTW BSB had a nice post breaking down how Miller was the catalyst for both of the first two goals.
From Brass, Nash (to a lesser extent) & Zucc... 1st off as mentioned, Nasher usually gets up for games against The CBJ's. I think it was Brooks who reported all the F bombs AV was slinging around, directed at his 1st line, (Achem Brass!) at Thursdays practice. (where other beat reporters just quoted AV's G rated version...) How Brass & Zucc were notoriously slow startes and AV responded, F'in Try a little harder, Compete a little harder...change that "slow start" shit & start fast. AV Challenged his team...
I expect a response on ice, & not just from the top line but from the whole team... they all heard & saw AV's response/reaction.
LGR!!!
Totally OT but... Mmmmm Erin looks good today!! (NFLN Erin!)
I am not a troll and the highlight of our season was losing 510 man games and still being above .500...if the rangers or any team for that matter had to endure what we did, well, good luck with that...

How many second round disappointments can they weather before the locker room fractures a bit. They swapped Brouwer and Oshie which to me is a wash and makes them softer. Ward who was a constant thorn in our side becomes Justin Williams. Their best move was getting that cunt Holtby signed to a long term deal. Mike Green is also out but to me he was fading and overpaid.
And as much as I respect how #8 plays the game (though i also believe he headhunts too much and lesser players get suspended for that) -- he's played a hard, physical game for over a decade now. You'd think that would catch up to him one year.
Also not sure how Backstrom comes back off serious surgery, and Holtby i think regresses a bit too.
They're a good team but i honestly dont understand all the preseason hype. Almost every report i've seen has them against Tampa in the ECF and like 75% of analysts picking them to win the regular season division too. There's 5 good teams in this division and the other 4, imo, have a strong case to make that on paper they have a better roster.
Washington actually scares me next year ... because those two kids they have will be more seasoned and i think they open up some cap space next year too.
I just dont see the roster depth that others have. I think a lot of guys have very good seasons for them last year, and expect some to slip back in year 2. Though Kuznetsov could bust out huge.
The overwhelming hype for Washington is bizarre, considering that they really didn't make any noticeable improvements to the roster of a team that got bounced in the second round yet again.
Every level they say "Defensive center with some offensive upside" and every level he becomes a huge part of the team. Was the MVP of the SEL playoffs (4th best league in the world) at age 21. Was a huge part of our AHL team last year. He's going to be a huge part of our bottom 6 for a long long time.
belongs, and I'm loving this lineup. Can't wait to be able to insert Etem and DMac into the lineup and give our guys some rest days here and there. Stay healthy, stay hungry, and ride the KING!!!
That's embarrassing. It really sucks how the sport which I personally consider the most exciting is practically an afterthought in half the markets that host teams.
I guess TV revenue rules all, and there I know that there are some TV benefits from having teams in nontraditional markets, but wow, that's all CBJ could muster? Dismal.
I love Lindberg. He's the man. Unrelated to his awesome hockey play (which is why I mainly love him), but I also love how he has a common spanish name first name and a swedish last name.... because it reminds me of Spiderman 2099 who's name is Miguel O'Hara (which is just as cool). Nothing better than a cool guy who plays on the Rangers shattering the preconceived notions people would have based on his name (if they didn't know he was a hockey player). That's extremely irrelevant to his play on the ice, I just find it cool.
Anyway, 1/41th of the season down, and 4 points. let's fucking go. I'd do anything to see a Rangers cup... I'd honestly take a Rangers Cup over another Lombardi for the Giants at this point... our window is 2, maybe 3 years max... we look good this year, but "I'm" already feeling the pressure (good thing I'm not actually on the ice).
Non Rangers question, but I have an inquiry to all the more knowledgable hockey posters... If both players came out at the same time, would Eichel go over Cane? Would this just be a function of the fact that Kane is a fwd and Eiche is a D? How many drafts back would we have to go until Eichel wouldn't be the #1 pick again? 07 w/ Kane? 09 w/ Tavares? 04/05 w Ovy and Crosby?
and just out of curiosity, if you had the #1 pick for a rebuilding team, would you go 04 Crosby or '15 McDavid? I know it's a loaded question since McDavid hasn't even played yet, but was Crosby a higher touted prospect than McDavid?
I'm really excited to see McDavid and Eichel usher in another era of hockey.
I want the Islanders to have fans. It's just more people to talk shit to when we beat them and they realize they are second class (or third class, I swear theres a more dedicated Devils fan base than Islanders fan).
Davisan, I do truly like hockey man =( I'll admit to having some hipster tendencies, but trust me, I've been to 5 Rangers games and cherished each one. First game I ever went to was when Todd Fedoruk got knocked the FUCK out by Colton Orr in 2007 like 60 seconds into a Rangers Flyers game. Went with my little sis, fucking awesome. Lame to say, but honestly will not forget how goddamn bright the ice was the first time I saw it in person, since I was 18 and was able to remember it well.
indian hockey fanatics 4 life. my dad's a devils fan though, so fuck him
It's going to take time for the Brooklynders to carve out a niche there. You knew the LI contingent wasn't traveling there regularly. They need to develop a local core and that's going to take years.
The Rangers have four extremely capable lines. And when one line might not be up to snuff one night another will and so on and so forth. This is as complete a team as the Rangers have had in recent years and with the skill level jumping off the program on every page you turn they are going to be a tough team to beat night in and night out.
The Blue Jackets tried to pummel a loss out of them but the Rangers stayed close and turned on the jets down the stretch and just skated by the Jackets. That kind of play will not deter the Rangers. It only fuels them and the Jackets frankly ran out of gas because they were too busy trying to hit somebody instead of skating. Problem was the Rangers were hitting them too where and when it counted and the Jackets had no answer.
Yeah sure they got that power play goal but the Rangers were pressing the issue. They got unlucky on the penalty but you could see them coming on. Should be an interesting game tonight. I would think the Rangers will be flying all over the place. The Jackets better have their heads on a swivel because this Rangers team I believe will want to rubber stamp that statement they made last night in a big way.

Pjcas would have the answer on Eichel, but in terms of hyped prospects, I think it went:
Crosby
McDavid
Tavares
Ovechkin
Kane
Crosby also had the benefit of being hockey's main focus since his draft year was the lockout year, so the hype train was even stronger.
Eichel is a center, by the way. May have gone first in every draft between 2011-2014. Maybe even over Hall in 2010 - but like I said, pj would know more.

The forwards did a poor job of breakouts. There was a lot of cluttering towards the puck and lack of foot movement.
No way should they trade Etem.
Oh, and LGR!!!!!!
I expect a response on ice, & not just from the top line but from the whole team... they all heard & saw AV's response/reaction.

Totally OT but... Mmmmm Erin looks good today!! (NFLN Erin!)
Was basically highlight of their season
Would you like some cheese to go with that whine?
Now, like us, meh.. they're just a team.
The prospect of a long series against two of CBJ/NYI/WAS worries me more than any team individually. All really physical teams.
And as much as I respect how #8 plays the game (though i also believe he headhunts too much and lesser players get suspended for that) -- he's played a hard, physical game for over a decade now. You'd think that would catch up to him one year.

I predict a 4-1 win tonight.
It's odd. I've always felt like you get away with 20x more after the whistle (not just post-goal). Makes no sense.
I've been saying this for a couple of years now. It's ridiculous.
Fucking cocksucker - ( New Window )
Yes.
Then coincidental minors is the call IMO.
There is no real goto guy.
But honestly we do have guys that can make plays all throughout the lineup. Columbus is just fucking annoying.
REALLY!
2-2!!!!
Great play by Miller as well.
3-2!!!
Trade a bunch of years ago for Ethan Werek. Loved it then, love it now.
Fuck you CBJs. Fuck you.
Fuck you Columbus!
Fuck you CBJs. Fuck you.
Haha great post Deej!

Fuckin idiots. Trash bag wanna be LA Kings.
What a way to start the season boys. Columbus fans can probably blame this on man injuries though
Should be another exciting year!
But fuck all that, onward
I think Dylan vs Washington will be very interesting.
Glad Lindy is here. His skating will create opportunity.
LGR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And the combination of alcohol and -30 weather.
