same lineup tonight from what I've read

Nash tends to raise his game against Columbus, so I hope to see something from the top line tonight after a forgettable opener. Actually, Nash wasn't bad in that one, really. He created a handful of excellent scoring chances, but Zuccarello and Brassard were invisible.
Woo hooo!
Deej : 10/9/2015 11:42 am : link
Rangers then Mets.

Good to see that Glass isnt coming in for grit. CBJ is a physical team. I really think Etem could struggle to play 25% of the time if no one is hurt. I wouldnt let that fester too long -- if we're healthy in a month we should look into making a deal. He is not Eddie Olczyk who is a finished product you can trot out there every 10-14 days no problem.
if they deal Etem, they're not getting much for him
Greg from LI : 10/9/2015 11:51 am : link
And that Hagelin trade will look even worse.

Etem should be in a lineup. This bottom 6 is as deep as I can remember. Lindberg just had an amazing camp, and Stoll was a special discount signing.

I bet Etem gets a decent return. A discount from this summer, but there are a bunch of teams that are running out forwards simply because they have no better options. Etem is a guy that a bottom 15 team would be happy to give a shot to.

In any event, I assume someone will get hurt and Etem will get a bunch of time.
Injuries will occur
MetsAreBack : 10/9/2015 11:59 am : link
its a matter of when not if for Etem. Hopefully he gets the burn, not #15.

How cute of FEKker to be rooting for a fellow wild card contender tonight. He may come to regret that - only two of CBJ, NYI, Boston, Ottawa and Florida can get in, unfortunately.

I agree. I thought Nash made some nice plays with the puck in Chicago and was surprised that he was criticized after the game.
it wasn't really fair but it's to be expected
Greg from LI : 10/9/2015 12:07 pm : link
The line as a group didn't do much, and Nash is the big name on the line. Even though his linemates were the main culprits, his name is the one that gets brought up.

Should be interesting to see the feisty third line against a physical team like Columbus. Miller, Lindberg and Stalberg were all throwing some hits in Chicago. BTW BSB had a nice post breaking down how Miller was the catalyst for both of the first two goals.
....
BrettNYG10 : 10/9/2015 12:09 pm : link
I thought Nash's firing at the empty net at an awful angle that led to the puck going the other way was a rare irresponsible play by him.

The forwards did a poor job of breakouts. There was a lot of cluttering towards the puck and lack of foot movement.

No way should they trade Etem.
Hopefully the Jackets get shut out
NYerInMA : 10/9/2015 12:10 pm : link
Because I hate that stupid cannon.
Anak undefeated on the young season

hopefully this game is similar to last year's season opener...

I totally expect a better performance
Run with 81 : 10/9/2015 1:14 pm : link
From Brass, Nash (to a lesser extent) & Zucc... 1st off as mentioned, Nasher usually gets up for games against The CBJ's. I think it was Brooks who reported all the F bombs AV was slinging around, directed at his 1st line, (Achem Brass!) at Thursdays practice. (where other beat reporters just quoted AV's G rated version...) How Brass & Zucc were notoriously slow startes and AV responded, F'in Try a little harder, Compete a little harder...change that "slow start" shit & start fast. AV Challenged his team...
I expect a response on ice, & not just from the top line but from the whole team... they all heard & saw AV's response/reaction.

LGR!!!

Totally OT but... Mmmmm Erin looks good today!! (NFLN Erin!)
Expect a very physical style from CBJ
Torrag : 10/9/2015 1:43 pm : link
I have a feeling when all is said and done We and CBJ will finish top 3 in the East. They're a load.

oh how cute, we have a new Isles troll?

Adorable!
i am giants fan who lives in Columbus
BronxBombers : 10/9/2015 2:04 pm : link
I am not a troll and the highlight of our season was losing 510 man games and still being above .500...if the rangers or any team for that matter had to endure what we did, well, good luck with that...
I see
Greg from LI : 10/9/2015 2:05 pm : link
I was unaware that there were any actual Columbus fans.
A wild Blue Jackets' fan appears!

Would you like some cheese to go with that whine?
I'll admit it Columbus worries me
Torrag : 10/9/2015 2:15 pm : link
That said I think our roster this year is more capable of playing physical enough to have success against them than in recent years.
They worried me
MetsAreBack : 10/9/2015 2:16 pm : link
until every writer in the country convinced me that the Capitals are winning the division & Eastern Conference with ease.

Now, like us, meh.. they're just a team.
....
BrettNYG10 : 10/9/2015 2:22 pm : link
They have a weak fourth line and a weak defense.

The prospect of a long series against two of CBJ/NYI/WAS worries me more than any team individually. All really physical teams.
I'm of the opinion that wash takes a step back this year
Torrag : 10/9/2015 2:23 pm : link
How many second round disappointments can they weather before the locker room fractures a bit. They swapped Brouwer and Oshie which to me is a wash and makes them softer. Ward who was a constant thorn in our side becomes Justin Williams. Their best move was getting that cunt Holtby signed to a long term deal. Mike Green is also out but to me he was fading and overpaid.
Green was a big part of their powerplay though
MetsAreBack : 10/9/2015 2:33 pm : link

And as much as I respect how #8 plays the game (though i also believe he headhunts too much and lesser players get suspended for that) -- he's played a hard, physical game for over a decade now. You'd think that would catch up to him one year.

Also not sure how Backstrom comes back off serious surgery, and Holtby i think regresses a bit too.

They're a good team but i honestly dont understand all the preseason hype. Almost every report i've seen has them against Tampa in the ECF and like 75% of analysts picking them to win the regular season division too. There's 5 good teams in this division and the other 4, imo, have a strong case to make that on paper they have a better roster.

Washington actually scares me next year ... because those two kids they have will be more seasoned and i think they open up some cap space next year too.
I agree on WASH
Deej : 10/9/2015 2:33 pm : link
I just dont see the roster depth that others have. I think a lot of guys have very good seasons for them last year, and expect some to slip back in year 2. Though Kuznetsov could bust out huge.
now if they still have Forsberg...
MetsAreBack : 10/9/2015 2:37 pm : link
and everyone talks up Kuznetsov... but to me there are 15 teams in the league with a young kid like Kuznetsov that could conceivably take off
How good is this team
RinR : 10/9/2015 2:43 pm : link
when 2/3 of the first line and first D pairing is invisible and we still beat the defending SC champions on opening night on their ice.
I said that the other day
Greg from LI : 10/9/2015 2:45 pm : link
The overwhelming hype for Washington is bizarre, considering that they really didn't make any noticeable improvements to the roster of a team that got bounced in the second round yet again.
two kids?
Greg from LI : 10/9/2015 2:47 pm : link
Who are you talking about besides Kuznetsov?
Vally just said
Deej : 10/9/2015 6:35 pm : link
that the Rangers think that this is the most talented Rangers team in "15 seasons". Odd time frame.

they did
SethFromAstoria : 10/9/2015 7:09 pm : link
play subpar overall tho.

I predict a 4-1 win tonight.
Only 7 minutes late
NYerInMA : 10/9/2015 7:17 pm : link
Compared to a normal 7:10 puck drop. Not too bad.
ugh

ugly so far.
Should've been a high stick when McDonagh got hit in the face,
BrettNYG10 : 10/9/2015 7:35 pm : link
Maybe a hit to head on Girardi (who made a nice defensive play afterwards).
Hit to Girardi looked clean on replay.

the big crosscheck Zucc took right after he shot? When is the NHL going to clean up the post goal fouls? Someone is gonna get hurt.
Columbus more concerned

with taking the body than playing with some skill. They look like a poor man's LA Kings.

It's odd. I've always felt like you get away with 20x more after the whistle (not just post-goal). Makes no sense.
