NFT: Metro Card Read Error

Rocky369 : 10/9/2015 4:02 pm
I'm not in the city or an avid city/public transportation commuter. Recently I started taking Metro North down the line and then hopping on the Beeline to get to work.

Jump on the bus this morning, card read error. It's happened before and assume I'll be okay on the ride back. Ride back same thing. Tried my current card, plus the other three metro cards I purchased from the automated machinces ($25 cards) for the month. All read errors.

Customer Service says to take it to a local hub to get checked out, only I don't go to the city, and the train stations north of the city don't do anything with them. Then they say to mail them in, and in the mean time just purchase a new one. Am I really dropping $100 worth of tickets in the mail, then buying more just to see if I experience the same problem? I'm sure there's plenty more experienced with this than me. What's the turnaround on these? What are the chances I take it up the backside on this?
Do we look..

like we work in the fucking ticket booth or something?

Sounds like you reached out for answers and got them, but they weren't the answers toy want to hear so here goes:

- Everything will be fine, sweetie. No chance you take it up the backside.
Don't have an answer

but I am in the middle of an experience dealing with mailing my Metrocard in for a reimbursement.

I had a 30 day unlimited which got bent and stopped working a week after I bought it. I mailed it to the MTA SIX WEEKS AGO.

After the first week, I called to confirm they had it. They said it was way too soon to be processed.

After the second week, I called them and they said they had it, but it wasn't processed yet, and that the funds would be put back onto my card.

After the fifth week, I called again and they still hadn't processed it.

I was planning on calling today, and this thread reminded me to do so. But mailing it in has been a total nightmare in my experience.
It sounds like

something in your wallet might be wrecking the strip on the cards, if that's where you keep them. That's the only time I've ever had problems with metro cards. Your issue seems isolated to you ...

what if someone wants to key my car? Should I break up with my girlfriend? I've got an ugly large growth on my neck. Should I call a doctor?

What do I do?
I got this too..

- Get scratch remover
- Fuck her then break up with her
- Cut the growth out!
- Fuck the doctor, too.
I mailed in one of those forms to MTA

Second, what makes you think the problem is with the cards? You repeatedly have this problem with every card you purchase while every other passenger around you is able to get on the train or bus without incident. You're doing something to ruin the cards. Either you are demagnetizing them, scratching them, bending them, all of the above, etc. Send the cards to the MTA to get new ones and start keeping them somewhere else.
