Mike Shanahan - Kirk Cousins can win a Super Bowl.

Sure, if his OL is great, the defense overall is lights-out, he has a sure-handed and smart WRs and top notch RBs.

Can he himself win a Super Bowl? As in, his team is down late in the 4th quarter and he needs a TD to win? I freakin doubt it.

He benefits a lot by being the "face" to RG3's "heel". People want him to be spectacular so they can say "see what a disaster RG3 was, holding Cousins back."

On another team he's just another QB who will have his ups and downs.

Pretty similar to the whole Heath Shuler vs Gus Freerot thing the Deadskins had going on 20 years ago.

by endorsing Cousins, he's indirectly distancing himself from the horrendous judgement HE made in sending Bob back in against the 'Hawks and effectively ruining his career..

think it's still too early to tell with Cousins. He engineered a ninety yard game winning drive last week, hasn't had DeSean Jackson, and won't have Jordan Reed this week, who is out with his fifth concussion. But has also thrown at least as many INTs as RGIII in half the attempts IIRC. His arm strength is good, but not elite. Great arm strength is typically necessary to beat the better defensive backs QBs must throw against, especially in the playoffs. But some QBs with his arm strength have succeeded, especially if they have elite WRs who can gain separation against almost anyone. RGIII isn't coming back next year. The Redskins know he's done, at least with them. This year is to learn about Cousins, so unless he's insanely bad, I don't see him being benched. They'v got to determine whether they need to draft a QB next year. But given their track record in that regard, they better hope Cousins can play.

Even Trent Dilfer (sorry to bring it up) was capable of winning a SB.

Andy would do wonders with him, and Kirk (IMO) has a higher ceiling than Alex Smith.

I'm sure it's just a nice bonus that he gets to poke at RG3 and Snyder while he's doing it, but I really think Shanahan's the type that figures his system can turn average QBs into above average performers.

Problem is, I don't think Kirk Cousins is even in average territory. Anyone he's lobbying for a job would need to believe that he can either turn around an existing underperforming QB or be able to bring in a QB cheaply/easily enough and start moving forward on day 1, and what better way to do it than to take the Redskins QB in FA (imagine being a fan of that team).

They either have to sign Cousins or Griffin. Or use a high draft choice ,,, again.

He's the definition of a game manager. Don't be fooled about the bullshit lip service the announcers and Mike Faketan feed you. Cousins is nothing special and, will be an after thought just like Jason Campbell and all the other turds Washington has trotted out there as the next franchise savior QB.

I agree whole-heartedly.

He's been put in a very shitty situation.

Many a decent QB has been ruined in Washington.

Patrick Ramsey who has a tendency to throw ints and folds under pressure. He panics when pressure is in his face and should be regulated to being a career backup.
