The surgeries Fells has endured so far include procedures to scrape the infection out of the bone, which has resulted in some bone loss. Doctors have worked to remove the infection from his foot as well as his tibia after some of it spread up into his leg. Fells' NFL career is almost certainly over at the age of 32, though that's obviously not the primary concern for him or anyone close to him at this point. |
It's positive because you know...he might live. Dumbass.
But yes, he will live which is MOST important, but his leg is pretty damn important too you know
Did you read the article?
Get well soon Fells!
Good news indeed, thank heavens!!
My son was lucky when they scraped out his infection - it was in his forearm area where the bone is big.
Good news is the bone scrape usually eradicates the infection, but he'll be on an antiboitic regimen for probably 6 months.
More common than you think. My little cousin got an infection after being hospitalized for a burst appendix.
Staph osteomyolitis was always a bad disease because of the problems of cleaning out the bone which does not have a great blood supply and is likely to sequester infected bone. Also getting antibiotics in at level that they can kill the bugs and getting the bodies intrinsic defenses in to the areas to realy do the clearing up. FRequently in the past theses infected sequestered bone turned chronic, think of Mickey MAntle and remained a life long problem.
MRSA is just a more virulent and resistant bug than staph aureus (MR = methicillin resistant)and if it gains access to the blood stream and can implant in heart valves, brain, and cause multiple microabcesses that can't be surgically drained you are screwed(pardon).
I am sure the doctors are doing the most they can, but this is a very bad business.
Well, thank-you for sharing so much of your personal beliefs. This is the perfect context for it.
And I hope his post-football life is fulfilling. It's hard to fill the gap.
Well said
What a tough break: you go from getting ready for the Bills game to fighting for your life. All because of a shot. Talk about your world coming apart.
Doctors feared he'd lose his foot. Now they're optimistic he won't. This could've killed him, exactly what would qualify as a "positive" for you?
Besides their own basic instincts, which are quite positive, they will also be hearing from all of the Giants fans if they do not.
Exactly how I feel !
Definitely an unnecessary response
I was wondering the same. I've been touched by this situation.

I wonder if there is anything we as a community could do for him or his family...maybe a short letter, put it on a sticky and have people sign on, and then paste the messages and somehow get it to him. I know that sounds corny, but you might get hundreds of fans to wish him well ...

I am working now but later I could, or you could now, start a thread with a paragraph expressing thanks and support, paste responses, and email it to Eric...just a thought

I don't see the reason to hope into the air and hope some genie grants your wish but I am pulling for Mr. Fells and hope doctors do their job and save him from further loss.
Definitely an unnecessary response
I didn't read where anyone asked you to pray, so why take an unprovoked shot at those that previously mentioned in the thread they were praying for him? You just come across as a bitter person who goes out of his way to insult people for no reason.
Or how about everyone just get over themselves?
What does this say about your reading comprehension?
What makes you think that we care what you do, or do not, believe?
Yup.
Don Quixote, I tried asking Pat Hanlon on Twitter if the team would forward cards sent to Daniel Fells in care of the Giants, but got nothing.
