If Romo was healthy, we would've been slaughtered

bxgiants4 : 10/25/2015 7:31 pm
Cassell put the wrapping paper and now on this one for us and we still had to sweat.

Worst I've felt after a victory in a long time

Worst feeling win I've had in as long as I can remember.

Feels cheap.
We have ZERO

Even Cassell Had all day to throw. They need a skilled pass rusher worse than anything.

But he wasn't.
Devon : 10/25/2015 7:34 pm : link
And they won.

If you're going to be picky about wins, you're watching the wrong team. This roster is rarely going to win pretty. One or more facets are going to suck every week (rotating, it seems) and they're going to have to scratch through in spite of.
And I know everybody is pumped up, and this isn't the right time...

The 1st pick could have happened to Brady on his best day. They ran the ball up & down the field all day. Romo/Cassel doesn't really factor into that.

Romo makes his turnovers. We got a few turnovers in the 1st game a few weeks ago also.
Well yes. Fugly win.

montanagiant : 10/25/2015 7:36 pm : link
If Cruz was not injured
If we did not have to start back up players all over the team
If only Plax did not shoot his leg

It's really silly to sit here and say that given the injuries we also have and after a win against a division rival.

Few wins by many teams are pretty anymore

The whole division is in bad shape.

It's a matter of sucking just slightly less over 16 games and every win, no matter how ugly, is a step towards that.

now we will be told we don't get a quality win for yet another myriad of reasons.

Fuck off.
BigBlueShock : 10/25/2015 7:38 pm : link
In typical BBI fashion, before the game "just get a win! I don't care how ugly it is!".

After the win, against a division opponent that puts us in 1st place?

"If Romo was parlaying, we'd have gotten out asses kicked!". Shameful. I wish we got to blame injuries the pat 3 years...loser.

But they're 4-3. In a mediocre division.

Getting to the post-season is the thing. If any of you nellies have paid attention, you know anything can happen at that point.

This isn't 2007. But with this quarterback? This coach? This D-coordinator? Maybe late returns from 80 and 90?

Some good health the last portion of the season? A couple breaks?

That's why we do this. That's why I'll continue to hope for things to fall into place.

Very important win inside the division

A win is a win. People have short memories around here. Rewind to 2007...we sucked most of that season, lots of ups/downs (remember the Minnesota debacle?). We didn't look like a contender until Bradshaw took us on his shoulders in the Buffalo game.

Yes, we aren't real good right now, but the wins count. No points for "What if's", no points for "Style"! What counts is how we stand at the end.
Yep
BigBlueShock : 10/25/2015 7:50 pm : link

that line of thought then think about this. What if the Giants defense had all their injured players back and healthy. Would you still say that Romo would kill the Giants. People are enjoying the win without using superlatives like the team is great or going to lock up a playoff spot and people are still bitching?

Has it gotten to a point where people can't even say they are happy with a win? Who is saying anything more than that?

Meanwhile, somehow, it is considered insightful to tear the team down after a divisional win that was called for here as being crucial?

If Cruz, Prince, etc were healthy the Giants would have played better too.

The Giants are currently in sole possession of first place, they play hard, don't quit and make big plays when needed.

I am excited to watch how they do as the rest of the season plays out and see who is the next giant to step up in a big moment.

12th in YPG, 17th in pass YPG, and 11th in run YPG, and haven't really forced many turnovers. They're better than the Giants, but I certainly wouldn't call that unit very good.

They are very good defensively

12th in YPG, 17th in pass YPG, and 11th in run YPG, and haven't really forced many turnovers. They're better than the Giants, but I certainly wouldn't call that unit very good.

To be fair, and I'm not a huge fan of Dallas' defense, but they've recently gotten back Lee,Gregory and Hardy. They're pretty damn talented now.

That's definitely a good point, BBS. They have some nice pieces that should form an above-average unit, but I don't think they're close to say the Broncos or other elite units.

A home game, we got destroyed with the run and we knew they were going to run it. Everyone talks about how bad cassel was ignoring that it too special teams plays to do anything.

Can stop the run and cant protect the QB is not a recipe for a playoff team and I think that is what people are seeing here. Also we had hope two weeks ago because the line was playing well but we have seen two weeks in a row that the line is not what we were hoping based on the improvements we have seen. Hopefully they can get better but I don't see where the help is going to come from.

The Cowboys
NJGiantFan84 : 10/25/2015 10:54 pm : link
Have a lot of talent and would likely be a top ten team if ROmo were there. Cassel is not a bad QB but he makes big mistakes which is what he did tonight.

This isnt a terrible team we squeaked by. They will win some games with Cassel and were in a position to win games with Weeden but he is really bad.

Its a good win, Giants are still a middle of the road team with glaring holes, but we beat a good team that lacks a great QB.

Yards dont matter, points do. Spags understands this and really saves the creative preasure for the Red zone. Its a bend but dont break style which forces qbs to make mistakes which is exactly what happened. Im not sure why anyone wouldnt enjoy beating this team.

I am happy with the victory, as I am any time the Giants win. Okay? Thank you DRC and Dwayne Harris for your outstanding play.

That said, big picture, I am unhappy with the talent level on this team.

After what should be nearing the conclusion of a three year rebuild, the team has as many flaws and questions as it did at the start of said rebuild, despite a large roster turnover.

Reese has seemingly struck out on both of his high priced FA Oline aquisitions. Both lines were manhandled by the Cowboys, who held the ball for 38 minutes. The offense only scored 1 TD for the second week in a row. Yes, I like Flowers, Pugh, and Richburg, I just wish it hadn't taken until last year to finally address the line in the draft.

Teams like San Fran who are getting blown out by other teams around the league, are taking us to the limit at home in the final seconds, and we make them look like competent teams.

Winning is great. Especially against the Cowboys. Glad we're 4-3. Glad we're currently in first place in the division. I'm unhappy with the state of the roster because the record doesn't feel sustainable in it's current state.

If that makes me a shitty fan that needs to stop watching the Giants, so be it. I'll likely continue watching since I've been watching for 30 years now, but I'll take advice under consideration.

Giants hadn't beaten the Cowboys since 2012. I'll take any win over that smirking asshole Jason Garrett and his douchebag owner any day of the week.

The team, with NO and TB up next, has a chance to be 6-3 going into the NE game (and the chance to defeat another undefeated Patriots team - something this organization specializes in). Based on how the team has played the past couple of weeks, I can't help but think that Brady is licking his chops and waiting for revenge, and this time around there are certainly no Tucks, Osis or Strahans to make him uncomfortable in the pocket. But if the Giants can get to 6-3......momentum in football is more important than in any other sport, and I think the D may surprise us.

there's nothing wrong with realizing the Giants are a work in progress. They are far from a finished product. It's fine to worry about how good this team is. But it's ridiculous to talk up style points or talk up weaknesses on a day the Giants won the biggest game they have had in 3 years. No one cares right now. No one should care right now.

I can rattle off dozens of "ugly concerning" wins that title winning teams achieved during the season. The 86 Giants barely beat dallas once and lost to them another time. Dallas sucked that year. The Giants barely beat the Cardinals and Pats in 1990. Both those teams were god awful. The Giants squeaked by teams throughout the 07 and 11 seasons. Who cares. And some of you are wrong about saying the Giants never blow anyone out. They have 2 semi blowout wins this season alone. IF anything, the Giants need to win more games like yesterday. The ugly close wins define a team. Ugly wins like yesterday make the difference between 8 or 9 wins.

You're nuts if you focus on the negatives from yesterday. Flat out nuts. Focus on the negatives when the season is over and the team missed the playoffs. Right now this team is battling and fighting and doing everything they can to win games. They are 4-3. They have been completely rocked with injury and yet they are still standing. Last night was wonderful in my view. It was everything this team has failed to do the last 2.5 years. It was a huge win. Maybe they miss the playoffs. But right now no one should give a fuck. The Giants just moved to 4-3 and put Dallas on a death watch. That's all that matters.

Keep improving. Keep fighting.

djm : 10/26/2015 10:26 am : link
that the Giants were going to have their hands full yesterday because Dallas has the good OL and DL. The Giants won't face too many teams like that again this season. Dallas is flawed and a bit overrated even with Romo but their OL and DL matchup well with the Giants. And we just survived and put them in the rear view mirror.

The Saints are playing better but there O and D lines aren't on the same planet as Dallas. The Giants (should) matchup with the Saints.

Oh and ill keep saying it. Special teams count too. NYG's specials are clicking. Remember Philly winning all those games the last 2 seasons? They did it with specials. All i heard from NYG fans was how much better Philly was than the Giants. Now the Giants win in Philly fashion and you're fucking complaining. LOL...can't make this up.

He ain't shredding anybody. Actually what the Saints are doing plays into the Giants' strengths.

If the Giants tackle well, keep things in front of them, and don't blow assignments the Saints are going to need a lot of plays to score points. That isn't a big play offense.

On the other side, Rob Ryan is the Saints' defensive coordinator. If you don't salivate at that then you haven't been paying attention.

That doesn't mean you kid yourselves about how you played or got the win. Our offense was bad, particularly pass protection on the right side. The right side of the O-Line is regressing and breaking down consistently in passing situations. We needed a pick six against a rusty backup QB and a return TD to avoid a loss vs the RomoDez-less cowboys. All in a game with a huge positive turnover advantage. But yeah we're looking good. /koolaid

Good for you bro. Bravo. You're doing the lord's work here. Make sure every fan knows that yesterday's win was tainted. Feel better now?

Where are these posts talking about how great the team is? Who are you arguing this point against?

Is it that difficult to enjoy the win and not shit on the team?

Don't answer that - the point is fucking clear as day.

Not counting the pick-6, the offense has turned 5 turnovers into, what, 3 points the last two weeks?

That's disgusting. Send Beckham downfield once, FFS. And throw it to him.

+4 turnovers and two defensive/special teams scores and we win by 7 after being doubled-up on first downs and yards and essentially never really stopping the Cowboys outside of the turnovers. The offense cannot -- or refuses to -- move the ball. OBJ only getting sporadic looks. He should be the first read on every pass play, bracketed, doubled, notwithstanding.

A win is a win, but this team needs to feed the ball to Beckham more. They are also going nowhere if they don't sort out the line play. We won't be getting 4 gifts and two non-offense TDs every game.

Seriously. Eat dick bags. Every god damned fucking year the Giants get completely decimated with injuries and Dallas does NOT. And now I'm supposed to feel sorry or give this win back because their good but fragile qb is out??? Fuck off with this shit. You're a Giants fan and you're gonna shit on the biggest win this team has had in 2 years? Do we not count the dozen NYG guys out and the additional half dozen players playing on one leg???

You've got to be kidding me with this shit.

There are definitely times I don't agree with djm. But he knocked it out of the park here. Those other teams aren't giving back their wins when they play us every year and we're absolutely decimated with injuries. Now they know what it feels like to eat shit.
Enjoying a win and understanding you didn't play well...

...aren't mutually exclusive. I don't get this need to immerse yourself in some kind of a delusional lovefest with everything Giants to appreciate we won the game.

We've lost a couple games we could have won this season. Now we won one we should have lost. We'll take it. The season is still alive and we can improve. We better because if we put what we saw on the field yesterday out there a few more times it's not going to end well.
Again..

Just one?

you Giants fans make me sick.... especially the one who posted.... you run your mouths off complaining all offseason, preseason and here we stand at 4-3 and you're still acting like little babies.... nothing satisfies any of you but I'll address the one who posted this.... our dline is an issue, its obvious we were destroyed on the ground and yes the victory was minus Romo/Dez but the game plan as someone mentioned would have been different for Dallas and they most likely would have taken to the air a lot more... look at the positives, the Giants are at the top of the league is forcing turnovers, DRC has been playing like a Pro Bowl CB and minus Prince we still managed to come out with 3 INTs... forcing turnovers has been a strong point for us this season and we are also among the best in intercepting the opposing team's ball.... you are not going to get a perfect game every game, the point is coming out on top regardless of the situation which is what we did... I saw more positives in this game then recent weeks, offensively speaking not as much as the D.... passing game consisted of a few great passing plays but aside from that there was none... there is hope for the ground game which I think ALWAYS has to be established in order to have a successful passing game and come out on top..... one of the things that irritated the shit out of me is we will do one thing really good, like running with Darkwa in the first half, and then stop doing it in the second half as though we think the other team is going to target it and try and stop it.... if they didnt stop it then why do you think they are going to stop it now??? you establish the running game like we did and continuing pounding the ball every possession which in return opens up the passing game.... aside from all of this you guys rarely are satisfied with anything at all regardless what it is.... you all sound like a bunch of babies here... go take the brooms out of you @## and post some decent sh!t or shut up.... how old are you people? do you even know ANYTHING about football? apparently not... school kids here, thats why I could give two shits less whether I post again here or not....

this game did nothing to convince anyone that the Giants have a shot at a SB ring and in fact probably did the opposite. Therefore its not really an enjoyable of a win.

I don't know why this is difficult to understand.

Bull. Fucking. Shit. I hate to tell you, but you play to win the game that is up on the schedule. That's it. Period. We've seen a couple of times now that once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. It's not even halfway through the season yet. Get some guys back, keep improving, maybe by time the playoffs come around, we are fortunate enough to still be playing and hopefully by then we ARE playing like a SB contender. It's fucking STUPID to be worrying about the SB right now and crying about a huge win against a division rival. Not one single team is the same now as they will be 10 weeks from now.
pretty sure Chris R
nygiants16 : 10/26/2015 1:08 pm : link
was the same person who started threads during the 11 season hoping the team just missed the playoffs because they were just going to lose 1st round...

Who cares how you win?..The Giants had how many snaps on offense in the 2nd half? barely any...

Who cares if they won on an INT return and a kick off return? really so they won ugly and Giants fans should be upset about that?

Isnt it a good thing that the Giants didnt play their best game and still won? and they beat a team with extra rest while the giants were playing on a short week..

Pretty sure in 07 and 11 Giants had ugly wins during the season, did you say then that the team was bad and going nowhere?
Lets also not forget
MetsAreBack : 10/26/2015 1:42 pm : link
Dallas had 14 days to prepare for this game and we had 6. I dont think i've ever seen something like that before.

On to New Orleans with a divisional win in our pockets. Life sucks, but we just have to find a way to move on.

It's really silly to sit here and say that given the injuries we also have and after a win against a division rival.

Apparently, injury issues only apply to other teams. People are acting like the Giants have their entire squad out there and they just suck.

Romo was healthy for 1 game this season... a game his team had no business winning against the Giants. Boo fuckin' hoo.
i'll say it again
djm : 10/26/2015 1:47 pm : link
no one would argue that the Giants are a work in progress that they need to play better. Whatever. All that matters is winning games at this point. Especially at this point. Does anyone remember which NFL teams were playing the best in October or in January?

Mike Francessa is echoing the OP as we speak. And he's flat out out of line here too. He's acting like the Giants team or fan base is walking around today talking shit and booking playoff tickets. No one is. We're just enjoying a win and looking forward to next week WHILE shoveling a little more dirt on Dallas. That's what the mistaken individual misses right now. Mike is not a real team fan anymore so of course he's gonna take the hard line approach. But this isn't January. It's October. There's room for error as long as you win. That's the point.
Francesa is lost.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 10/26/2015 1:50 pm : link
He's talking about how well the Jets played... are the Pats going to drop 10 passes EVERY time they play the Jets? People ignore what they want to ignore.

I'm not even saying the Giants looked good yesterday, but people seem to be real quick to give other teams injury passes while ignoring the numerous injuries with the Giants.
to quote Mike
djm : 10/26/2015 1:51 pm : link
" I was more impressed with the Jets loss than the Giants win"

The Jets aren't winning any super bowls in October and they sure as fuck aren't winning any super bowls while losing in admirable fashion.

Which team was playing better football in September of 2011? The Jets. Which team was playing better football in October of 2007--Dallas or the Giants? Dallas.

This isn't college football. All you need to do right now is survive. Is any Giants fan going to hand the NFC East trophy back if the Giants steal the east this year with a 9-7 record? If this team is 8-7 and hosting Philly in week 17 for the Eastern Crown will anyone care how ugly last night's win was?

It's amazing to me how disrespected special teams wins are. Unless the Giants lose to a special teams play--then it's amazing. But if we win with it, it's lucky? Unreal...

honestly
djm : 10/26/2015 1:59 pm : link
gun to my head I don't think we win the division. But I wouldn't be surprised in the least if we did. It's pretty much a toss up between us and Philly and maybe the skins...lol ok no way the Skins.

So maybe we do struggle here...who knows. I just feel good today knowing Dallas is sinking and the Giants aren't. And hey you never know...maybe this team peaks here over the next month or two. The offense could play better. Maybe it does.
