Rueben Randle - does he exasperate you?

Jim in Forest Hills : 10/26/2015 10:39 am
I was excited when they drafted him, I get the whole 1st round grade talk, great value, steal, etc.

I get that players take time to develop, I was burned on the Corey Webster bandwagon (I thought he was terrible after getting trucked by Marion Barber and then he became a shutdown corner). I'm patiently waiting for him to ascend or at least stabilize.

His production hasn't been terrible:
Year Team G Rec Yds Avg Yds/G Lng TD 20+ 40+ 1st FUM
2015 New York Giants 7 26 329 12.7 47.0 44 2 5 2 17 0
2014 New York Giants 16 71 938 13.2 58.6 49 3 12 2 48 0
2013 New York Giants 16 41 611 14.9 38.2 37T 6 16 0 28 1
2012 New York Giants 16 19 298 15.7 18.6 56 3 4 2 13 0
TOTAL 55 157 2,176 13.9 39.6 56 14 37 6 106 1

But he frustrates the hell out of me sometimes. The drop hurt to watch, I mean that was a perfect throw.

For me the maddening portion is running out of bounds after the bomb, why? Is he protecting an injury? I mean, isn't the objective there to try and outrun the defender?

He's also a big guy, can't he stiff arm or outmuscle the defender? Knowing that football is a game of inches, wouldn't you try to get every yard? Why wouldn't he think 6 there?

It just frustrates me since I don't understand the thought process there. I don't care that he's not fiery, that's fine, it just feels like there is a disconnect there. Is this an overreaction? I'm happy with the win, I just want winning players on the team.

Not a bum. Not a good player

I expect average play from him because thats all he is. We have an average NFL WR with Randle so I don't get worked up about anything he does. We should look to upgrade the spot next year.
james Jones

couldve beaten him out as no 3 WR.

Wheres Manningham now?
Boldin is not an answer for a team that's building

he's more likely to fall off the cliff suddenly.
he's the definition of exasperating. Great 1 handed catch followed
Victor in CT : 10/26/2015 1:04 pm : link
by a drop right in his hands all by himself.
During the SF game, 4th qtr ...

Beckham and Randle are hurt and on the sideline and we have to drive the ball down the field to win. How many of you thought,
"thank god Randle is out", not me. I wanted him in there because I thought he could help us win the game...

So with that, tell me why I should think Randle is not an important part of this team ...

On the post were talking about a different game here and people aren't complaining about how we won. That could have put us up 10-14 points there. But just like the slant pass earlier in the game he took his eyes off the ball cause he's scared to get hit. I can't stand the guy and hope we don't offer him shit next year cause I want to see where he ends up. I guarantee ull never see him again if we don't bring him back

Basically. He's reached his potential. And I don't see him getting better. That drop almost costed the giants.. Speaking of drops, how many do they have now 23 ?

Sanu? Streater? Kearse? Matthews?

All better football players than Randle.

I'd take Sanu first. Even at 5-6 million a year.
3 guys I would target
dep026 : 10/26/2015 1:33 pm : link
Marvin Jones
Rishard Matthews
Brian Quick
any one of those 3 works for me
djm : 10/26/2015 1:56 pm : link
I really like Jones. He's for real.
Travis Benjamin

will probably get a big deal in Cleveland, but boy would he fit in here.
I read that
phil in arizona : 10/26/2015 2:02 pm : link
Sanu is one of the worst blocking WRs in the NFL.
What's the deal with Quick?

Is he just always hurt?
the db got his hand on the ball

wich caused the ball to hit randles hands funny. That's what I saw anyway. I think you should take another look at the end of the play.
randle is definitely a decent player in this league. Especially when he's 100%. Look at the last 2 games of the year in 2014.
Take a look at the Rams game especially!!
He is soft with a laissez faire attitude
GiantTuff1 : 10/26/2015 3:40 pm : link
and by that I mean he has no grit or killer instinct. He seems afraid to be as big a star as he can be.

He is the opposite of Beckham in this regard. He seems content to just be around, not striving to the absolute best. This small ball approach is lazy.

You build a winning team with are guys with the attitude of a a Beckum, a Manning, a Vereen. Always striving to be the absolute best, regardless of talent level or if they are vocally loud.

Randle, like Donnell, are maddening because they have some good measurable and ability, but they seems to shrink down to moments rather than rise up and seize it and excel over everyone.
Nothing is maddening about this player--we discussed this last week
hassan : 10/26/2015 8:09 pm : link
he has warts. He is a pokey, no seperation big target that has some decent understanding of the offense but no outstanding trait as a player. However, he is typical of an average to below average #2. I dont get the not having a roster spot nonsense. Do you posters realize 20 players in the nfl eclipse 1000 yards a year? Many #1s dont on teams.

Randle is a decent player. Hardly a bust at the end of round #2. Inconsistent hands. Injured and beat up.

The way our coordinator is calling the offense this year, OBJ will be lucky to pass 1200 yards. What chance does Randle have to get big yards?????
Everyone in the league has some talent
hassan : 10/27/2015 9:29 am : link
only the top 10 pct or so strive to be the best like a manning, beckham, etc. Most teams only have 3-4 of these players.

Randle is a 'middle class' player. I dont see any star makings in him though. What attribute of his is star like?

His size is slightly above average. His speed and moves are pedestrian. His competitiveness and drive are average. His health is average to below average. His knowledge of the offense is probably his best attribute.

Perhaps people remember his lofty draft evaluation. Forget it, its known he's not the Hakeem Nicks clone people thought we were getting with him for years now.

Quite frankly, he looked at least somewhat explosive as a rookie against dallas and philly. have not seen that since. His body seems to have broken down at an early age happens to football players.
Fucking
