Despite their present squad make-up, they still have Brees and against us he's murder in the dome

We have to create some separation from the Cowboys and Eagles now.

They may not be any worse either but this is a winnable game against a team the has been bad defensively against both the pass and the run. Will be interesting to see the Giants offense and OL face a defense and defensive front that isn't on the Cowboys, Redskins, Philly level.

What will be interesting is what strategy Spags comes up with to defense Brees. I assume Spags will mix it up to try to mask our lack of pass rush with a combo of blitz' and man / zone coverages.

Beason is a great "field general" to have at MLB to match wits with Brees (I don't want Unga in that role).

Well, and so are the Giants. So, yes, the Giants can certainly get a win this Sunday.

The question is, how are the back-up corners? Weren't some of them dinged last week? And how is Beckham's hamstring? I think that has significantly bothered him the last couple of weeks.

I think Coughlin has a great idea bringing JPP to New Orleans. Get him back into the fight, at least from the sidelines.

any offense against the Saints, then we're in trouble - both in this game and for the future. We'll need 28 to win (Brees + our defense = lots of points), and defenses in the NFL don't get much worse than what N.O. has right now.

Coughlin and Spags would take risks. Unusual formations, gadget plays, things to give our guys something extra to focus on, and things that catch the Saints by surprise and take the crowd out of the game.

The schedule gets tougher post-bye. The Giants have five games left against teams currently not in playoff position - Saints, Bucs, Skins, Dolphins, Eagles. Winning at least 4/5 of those is imperative if the team is going to make the playoffs - and the team will more than likely need another win elsewhere.

Since going 1-1 back then, things have been atrocious, and the games haven't even been close. Nobody needs to take this team lightly...I don't care how 'down' the Saints are this year. They OWN our ass in the Superdome. Their fans really seem to get 'up' for the Giants. They like Eli, but they are hell on 'away' fans. We can't keep the Saints from scoring over 40 in NO under Coughlin's tenure. Eli has never won there (in the NFL, that is), and we never seem to even bother to get off the bus/plane.

2003- Lost 45-7: Sunday Night Football, for all the world to see. This was the Joe Horn cell phone in the goal post game. Our QB was Jessie Palmer. Fassel's tenure was down the drain and we had no Strahan, Hilliard and some other big names. I watched Shockey practice PUNTING on the field for 30 minutes before the game. It came out later that he'd stayed out all night and gotten plastered in the French Quarter. We got our ever living asses handed to us. Embarrassing.

2005- Don't be confused by PFR listing this as a Home game for the Saints. After Hurricane Katrina, we hung some Saints banners at Giants Stadium and invited the homeless and hapless Saints to NJ for a 'home' game, and sent them packing with an L, 27-10.

2009- Lost 48-27: Brees killed us. Shockey even scored (guess that first rounder made it worthwhile, though). Nowhere near as close as this score. I don't think we touched Brees all game. We couldn't run the ball or cover in the secondary. Horrible.

2011- Lost 49-24: Brees murdered us yet again. Even scored up the middle on a run. They beat us up front, too...man-to-man. We looked so weak and uninspired out there. Long day in the Dome.

As bad as has been the last three times, that's as close as my GMEN ever come to me, so you bet your ass I'm not missing this one. Hopefully they'll send me home with something to be happy about this year.

If we are to have any chance to take this one on the road, imv we need to show up against the run like we did the first few weeks, not like we have the previous two. If we give Ingram a big game Brees will pick us apart off the play action.

If we stop the run and can't get to Brees, he'll still pick us apart but we'll have a chance for some picks of our own.

Brees has killed us in the SD but it's not the same team. Their OL isn't as good as prior years and their receivers have underwhelmed. Our run defense matches up better vs the Saints than last week.

The keys like most weeks will be offensive efficiency and causing some turnovers on defense.

and the Cowboys blew their game with them as well (with no Romo or Dez), not to mention the Falcons had to win in OT against the Skins. Falcons could easily have 4 loses. Colts can't beat anyone except other teams in their crap show of a division. Maybe Saints have some false confidence going into the game this Sunday.

Eli needs to earn his paycheck this Sunday and Beckham needs to put on a show.

Stop it. They haven't played in 4 years. The number of players on both teams that played in that game probably number around 10.

It's not the same teams. The only thing that's the same are the QBs and the head coaches. What happened 4 years ago and later has no bearing whatsoever on this week's game.

This is a huge game against an average opponent.

OBJ and Randle to really play well. Run defense needs to step up.

on .500. We've won with a stingy run defense, poruos run defense, huge aerial games, non existent passing days and special teams miracles. We can't do anything well for an extended period of more than 3 games but the truly sloppy play NFL wide has helped us. TC took time to catch up to the reduced practice and OTA schedule, he simplified his offense and adopted more sports science methods which haven't cut down injuries but it sure as hell has helped with how this team competes every week.

They haven't come out slow or stodgy or soft yet, which has been a staple of his teams during his tenure. This shift has us at peak performance by game days and with a talent deficiency we need it. Right now, TC is out coaching people and so are his coordinators. There is bad bad bad football league wide because of the reduced practice times and the teams not adjusting are struggling. I'm not saying Coughlin has been perfect or solved everything but this is a huge huge step for this team to be prepared every week.

the Giants jump out to a big early lead this Sunday. Whether they can hold on is another story.

brees is the best QB the team has faced this season and the saints under payton have been very tough at the superdome (3-1 at home this season even with less talent on offense). given our pass rush has been a weak spot and we are without prince, he's going to exploit our weaknesses executing payton's strategy. ingram and spiller can make the giants pay in the running game. I don't expect another near 50 point debacle like the last two trips, but I can easily see a score like 35-17.

the giants offensive line needs to play much better than they have the last two games and we can't afford any major sloppy/stupid mistakes on offense.

History doesn't always repeat itself. This game on sunday has nothing in common with 2011.

You're talking about a sample size of 2 games. One was in 2009 where there was no talent in the secondary, and the other was in 2011 when the defense was terrible outside of JPP.

Now, there's reason to worry because our defense is again weak, but the earlier losses have more to do with talent than the location.

i agree with you. the beat writers all the pundits and so called experts and even tiki says the giants are lacking talent,so why does reese seem to always get a pass?

There is truth to that and I have more faith in this defense than I did in the 2009 and 2011 version. However, Payton and Brees are still a dynamic playcalling/quarterback duo especially on home turf and while some of the supporting cast has changed, the QB and coach duo goes a long way in determining the result. And Brees is hands down the toughest QB the Giants have faced this year, including Romo and Ryan.

the last 3 underwhelming years has taught me 1 thing... the quality of the team as a whole that we face is less important than the quality of the opposing quarterback. Drew Brees is going to the Hall of Fame.

If we beat the Saints in New Orleans I think it's as big a win as we can have with only maybe 3 or 4 exceptions.

Saints are 4th in the league with a 47% success rate on 3rd down. If the D can't get much pressure they are good at those short checkdowns.

and one we should win to me. We need to keep winning to stay in first because remember that all of the other teams in our division are playing equally weak teams down the road which they may win (mostly thinking about dallas and philly); and philly beat them so we need to hold serve. this O (along with turnovers from D and contributions from special teams) should be able to put up at least 30 or more on this team; which i think should be enough - especially if we get a sizable lead which would lead to more turnovers. New Orleans is not that great anymore.

where we seem to have regular success on the road - buffalo, Detroit, Washington, new england and green bay are places where we have excelled in recent history.

on the other end, new Orleans, san diego and philly are places we have had some bad beatdowns.
