on catchable balls, a gaffe on punt coverage and a devestating penalty by the punter. Why do these brutal last minute/second losses have to involve a punter fucking up?!
Not pleased with the late game decisions this satff ahs made this year. Honestly the should not better than to allow a return that late in the game. terrible
They had 200 more fucking yards then us! 200, we gave up 600 yards of offense and 7 TDs
This defense is the worst statistically in the league now. Spags had the worst defense in history when he was in New Orleans. Is there a correlation? Talent! Scheme, combination thereof? I don't pin this all on Spags, although there will be those that do. Talent is lacking all over this Defense, but nobody had coverage all day and again there was no pressure!
I expected us to lose so... I wanted Eli to play well, and he obviously exceeded my expections. Right now the goal is to get his ass to the HOF. This team sucks right now, so as long as he can put up stats I am fine with that. This offseason we have a lot of work to do. Fucking team is not good.
Brees would have set the NFL record against us in Overtime Â
I guess im in minority. I think tom fucked up by calling a timeout 3rd n 5 20 seconds if u dnt get it you set up a shot for NO. I woulda just forced OT. I get its conservative but with 20 seconds it isnt easy to jus get 40 yards n still have time for a fg
shooting for OT when we only needed 3
I think We could have got the ball back
at the 20 with a Minute left and one timeout
I hated the management with a QB who threw
6 TD;s Really Terrible loss that's
3 winable games in the Loss Column
I expected a loss, but this was really just awful. Â
I don't normally feel for players, but the offense (sans OL and Williams) played the game of their lives today and the defense, STs at the end, and Coughlin ripped it from them in brutal fashion.
I thought for sure that they were going to kick that ball out of bound Â

I feel like destroying something beautiful right now. Fuckin waste of an amazing day from Eli. I thought I was at a point in my life where a loss doesn't ruin my day but the Giants this year have continually tested that. I'm gonna go take a long shower now.
Did take 15 seconds off the clock. No penalty and Brees has to complete a pass and WR step out of bounds and then Saints to kick FG with 1 second left.

Right. Save the long punt return for the final :15 seconds with the score tied.
We all know we have no pass rush and the backfield is wounded. Half way through this game it did not look good in spite of how well our Offense was playing.
A shame to lose it on that penalty at the end but damn, for a team with a large lack of talent on defense they played a great game. Great effort!

Now to enjoy the Seahawks beating the Cowboys.
I like your positive outlook. Wish I felt the same. Should have had this one.
Anyone Notice Eli never smiled the whole game
it's like he knew somehow we would blow this
Special Teams never seem to be aware of details
and for the Clock Management thats Just Poor
Recognition by TC he can blame himself after
the game but its 3 games that we have seen questionable
management and it doesn't take the Loss away ...
Huge Conference Loss ...!!!

We don't get a first down on last drive.
ST coverage wasn't good.
Thought knee was down prior to face mask penalty.
Did a good job on offense
to put up somewhere in the mid 40's, I was off by about 8 points.
had no expectations of a win.....but leave it to the Giants to find a way to lose a game in a way that can upset me even when I was prepared for a loss.
We had plenty of time to get into FG range...... Â
1) Why was Williams even in the game at any point today?
2) After his first drive resulted in a punt, followed bu a couple of nice runs by Darkwa, why did he get 3 more series and Darkwa none?
3) How does Randle not make an effort to catch a ball that hit his hand just by him having his hand up?
4) How does Randle not make and effort to catch the ball off Harris' hands?
5) For that matter, how does that ball go through Harris' hands?
6) How does Casillas blow the exact situation he was brought in for?
7) How do they not directional punt there?
8) How do they still have absolutely no pass rush?
9) Why not call a TO or 2 on D? I can go either way on this one?
10) How many times did the deep help on our D take a shallow angle and end up underneath the receiver?
11) How does Kuhn still get playing time? Not a coincidence, in my opinion, that the drives the Saints ran the ball and ran it with success he got a lot of snaps.
12) Collins played a really bad game.
13) Outside of that tackle on 3rd down, Hosley was terrible.
14) This is an absolutely terrible defensive team and I maintained that even after last week's game.

Re: knee down - maybe that's why they initially said no penalty. After conferring determined it was a facemask.
anymore because this team just doesn't have the players anyway. Just be happy that Eli is still playing at a very high level. Maybe we can retool and make another run in a couple of years.
Tom said he didn't expect the guy to run the punt back? Â
As a season ticket holder I am disgusted with the level of players on the field. For years the LBs have been average so I don't want to hear about injuries. Yes we are banged up in the secondary but can anyone cover? Landon Collins is atrocious. The pass rush is horrendous. With JPP last year it sucked so him missing isn't the issue.
And once again special teams failed in the clutch. Nothing good comes from kicking it in play. Drive it 45 yards out of bounds. Looked similar to the philly game. Kick the fucking ball oout of bounds. Eli threw 6 TD's, no int's and 1 defensive score and couldn't make make one stop. Pathetic.
Is wanting to call a TO while the Saints were driving for the score to tie it up. The only thing that would have resulted in was Bree's having a few seconds to improve the field position for the winning FG.
Sometimes you guys can't see the forrest through the trees. How about getting a fucking stop. How about playing some form of defense. 52 points!!!!!!!!!!
but I don't put this on the coaches. At some point the players have to make a play. The defense has to make a stop. Somebody has to tackle the punt returner.

??? Why would you willingly punt to a returner in a situation like that?????????????????????????????????????

I think most people realize the defense was an abortion today, which is why the time management was a problem in the first place for many people.
It's not either/or nor is it excusing how terrible the defense was (because no fucking shit the defense was terrible, all-time so).

got his hand on the faskmask only because he WAS HAVING HIS HELMET RIPPED OFF HIS HEAD by the guy who picked up the fumble. The idiot ref needs to call nothing in that situation as the with the ball's faskmask on Wing was MUCH WORSE. Don't decide a 49-49 game on that!!!!!
TC, Reese, Spags, whoever but the bottom line is the talent on this team is well below average. I don't think it matters what happened in the last few minutes of any of these games the talent is just not there. I seriously don't think Vince Lombardi could get most of these guys to be average players.
With that said TC and his coaches will most definitely lose their jobs at the end of the season and we will still be stuck with 95% of the roster being awful. Prince, DRC and MAYBE Kennard if you are the hopeful type on defense and Eli, Odell, Vereen on offense. That is IT! Hopefully dofus Flowers becomes something but I can't foresee anyone else being anything more then journeyman chumps the rest of their careers.
This team isn't making the playoffs, Tom is already gone but doesn't know it yet, and for what seems like a lifetime ago...our defensive heritage is insulted once again in the coughin era.

Fuck TC, punt the ball out of bounds. He sucks and the loss is on him.
Agree, some real insight by TC there, especially considering we have eyes and ears too and watched it. What I want to know is why our punter did not punt that ball out of bounds. Bad enough that we could not convert on 3rd down near the end, but give the other team an opportunity to get the ball in field goal range? Seriously? I guess the word lose as a team comes to mind, because he put the final fucking nail in that game, atrocious when you have your punter making tackles too.
why not one single blitz during the Saints final drive??????? Spags looking like Fewell - TC's influence??? The few times Brees was under pressure, he threw crappy passes. Did Whitlock get hurt??? Didn't see him at DT at all.

I don't agree with the calls for Coughlin's head yet. Â

so true
Feagles just said they probably should have kicked it out of bounds Â
But I find it hard to believe to blame the coaching for this game. I mean you score 49 points and you lose? To me this loss is more of a talent issue. That D is awful and we all knew it was awful. They don't have any playmakers besides DRC on that side of the ball. And to expect 8 1/2 fingered JPP and Prince to make a significant difference is foolhardy. At this point they are gonna half to depend on that offense and pray that the D wont play as awful as they did today.
Hard to blame one unit or the other because each of the three units has contributed mind-boggling errors this year that have led to a loss. The coaches have also contributed. It is what rebuilding teams do. It is a horrible shame to waste an effort like that from the QB. Yes this team could be 7-1, but it could also be 2-6.
I do not believe that all of the young players have potential, but instead the salary cap has forced the Giants to keep marginal players and the injuries have forced them to play these players. What is a shame is the cap mo year wasted this year on Beason, Schwartz and even Cruz, who may not be able to ever return to anything close to his former self.
RE: I don't agree with the calls for Coughlin's head yet. Â
But, I am tired of hearing about grit or effort. I want to hear about wins. And only half the team showed any grit.
Its so simple that a 10 year old can make the call, punt the ball out of bounds and mitigate against any risk of a return play that puts your opposition in field goal range with 7 seconds to play, Are you fucking kidding me TC?
is that even if they kick it out of bounds, I still think the Saints had a good shot at winning. If I'm them, I take a shot or two, depending on how much time is left, at the end zone down the middle of the field. The Giants had no idea how to defend it.
with key players injured and about to come back; and a half season left to play. From the comments on this thread you would think we were 3 games deep in last place.
Did anyone look at our defense at the start of the year and think we were gonna shut everyone out!?!
In hindsight it is easy to say that Jones should have been kept instead of a younger Randle and that the last several games of last year were not a sign that Reuben had finally matured.**
For my part I'm going to enjoy the rest of this season with the knowledge that everyone is 0 - 0
IMO blaming TC for this loss is grasping at straws. (McAdoo is getting the best out of Eli and and Spags just doesn't have the players. Just imagine if Prince was not hurt.) Let's see what happens down the stretch.
**BTW, this prob should be a separate post but Reuben is the definition of a coach killer. We have 'til Tues to trade him for a young player of value at another position. (Beyond that I agree there is no excuse for him being on the 2016 roster.) Since I'm not a GM with a career on the line, I'd take the chance that Cruz will be back down the stretch.
Give up 52 points and not have the loss be on the defense, brehs. Â
defense lost the game. Everybody knew that Brees could carve us up given our lack of pass rush and problems in the secondary. I'm not sure which was worse. We barely got within the same zip code as Brees, and couldn't cover anyone. Watson killed us, as TEs have done repeatedly through the years. Collins was brutally bad. Hosley and Wade were also poor. The Saints marching down the field at the end of the game reminded me of what the Cowboys did to us in that regard in game one.
As far as the end of the game is concerned, the ball had to be punted away from the returner. You can't give him a chance. The face mask penalty was a legitimate call.
This team isn't going anywhere. There is no need to get riled up over Â
this season. Just watch it play out and wait for the Maras to bring everyone back.
Because that's what will happen.
Why even bother to work up a sweat? Why even assign blame? A well run organization would've changed staff and front office long ago.
Pretty soon, maybe I'll join some of the oldies here and be content with wins over hapless teams or teams playing with back-up QB's.
Well said. And I actually like John Mara alot. But he's got to stop talking shit and then doing nothing in the offseason. Something just doesn't smell right with this team and it's been awhile now.
Giants put on the field since 1974. Missed a million tackles. Parcells would probably have half a dozen defense guys cleaning out their lockers tomorrow.
But I never expected them to be 4-4 at the halfway mark. They're hanging around in a weak division. If they get JPP and Beason and Prince back, the defense might be just bad, which is better than its being invisible.
The offense may be good enough to have them contending until the end of the season.
You don't think the coach has the authority to call for a directional Â

in the final 36 seconds the defense failed (TD), the offense failed (3 and out), the special teams failed (punt/coverage/penalty) and the coaching failed (clock management).
talk about coming unglued. but it's business as usual and this stuff should not happen in pro football
he totally screwed up the end of this one. New Orleans can talk about subpar players too but they won the game in regulation and that should never have happened.
killed the Giants chance to win this game in OT, by keep that ball in play on the punt instead of kicking it out of bounds beyond the reach of a human kicker. Deplorable. Sure we could have lost in OT, but seriously? Too much of these coaching breakdowns lately. Tells me we need a new team in East Rutherford to right this ship.
i at first wanted quick timeouts too when saints were inside the 10 Â
but if they hold us to 3 and out they win with ease with all their timeouts remaining. it was a tough spot to decide whether or not to use timeouts. im not so sure we misplayed it. We did have ruben wide open and would have won it exactly how we played it if we connect on that throw.
The no flag followed by payton arguing and replay changing the refs mind should never be allowed to happen to decide a game.
If we played the timeout game and the saints hold us to 3 and out they have a minute to go with 3 timeouts where all it takes is a fg to win the game. Tom didn't mess up there IMO. If randle catches the deep ball we win the game

The ball should have been intentionally punted out of bounds not allowing a return play.
I'm a Saints fan and would like to say this was one of the most exciting games in history. That said, our two teams have the bottom of the barrel DC's in the league. Spags created history with his stay at the with the Saints. Most yards allowed in NFL History!!!! Rob Ryan is right there with him. Neither of these teams will get to the big dance with either of them on board. Good luck to the Big Blue when they aren't playing the Saints. BTW, yes, Wing should have punted out of bounds. Not sure that was his decision having watched play outstandingly at LSU during the Championship years!

Ad TC said himself that Wing punted the ball where he was instructed to. Which was obviously a grave error that cost the game.
The game was a shootout and TC fucked his team with a chance to put the O back on the field by punting in play.
Oh, I'm sorry. I must have missed where Tom Coughlin was out there punting.
Brees shredded this defense. It's why the Giants lost.
The Giants lost because of poor clock management by the HC and not getting Eli into overtime.
Whatever man, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. If you have to get your QB into overtime to win, you probably weren't doing a lot of things right to being with. Everyone has to have someone to blame I guess.
Someone saw the penalty and threw the flag. After that point, it doesn't really matter to me how they got to the penalty. It wasn't pulled out of the air; it was the correct call.
Merriweather was invisible. Dahl is Dahl. The linebackers couldn't cover a ham sandwich. And the team has no pass rush.
Agreed. And of course, pass coverage was Collins's weak point coming out of college. Many saw him as an in the box safety. But he is a rookie, and we have no pass rush. Teams though are targeting him. The lack of coverage LBs is inexcusable, especially given who we have faced at TE in our own division the last ten years.
this year. I know a lot of posters here, and guys who I'd classify as good/knowledgable, say we're trending upward or the arrow is pointing up. What am I missing? We still appear to need to invest resources at OL/DL/LB/S/CB/WR/TE and maybe RB. And that's after we've apparently had 3 good to great drafts in a row! Eli has maybe 4 more high performance years. How many of those are going to be on a contender?
There were a couple of other plays that could have helped us had they gone the other way (Randle not catching that ball, for example). But, the D was horrendous all game long.
Once again, absolutely no pass rush. Collins played his worst game, taking shallow angles in deep coverage, passing off guys near the line of scrimmage where it appeard he was responsible for them, etc. Merriweather was asked to play near the LOS scrimmage a lot. I didn't see hiom blow a lot, but he certainly didn't do anything special. It was Collins, Casillas, Kennard, and Unga getting beaten repeatedly in the deep middle of the field. Outside of the 3rd down tackle at the end, Hosley was terrible. Selvie crashed hard inside on one run outside late in the game, which seemed like a replay of last year's D. I also don't think it was a coincidence the Saints had success running the ball when Kuhn was in the game. And, of course, there was another costly and stupid Moore penalty. I would just bench him.
Really, only DRC had a good game on D. A few guys mad ea nice play here or there, but nobody had a good overall game.
because I expect Eli to pull them out. This is one of the rare games I never felt confident and it had nothing to do with Eli or the offense. I fully expected the O to tie it up. I never expected the D to hold a tie or lead.
I understand alot of people want address the offense. But we need so many D players. Oh and maybe draft a MLB, that might be an idea for a change, instead of some these retreads we got. lol
Ruben Randle has to make that catch with 36 seconds left, Everyone forgets Spags defense in New Orleans gave up 440 yards a game. Sean Payton couldn't wait to fire him
This offseason a starting caliber FS and two more good CB's are a must Â
The further Collin gets from the LoS the worse he is. He's a true old school in the box mauler. There is a role for that. With the personnel we now have he is exposed.
A starting MIKE is also a necessity.
Randle must go. If you watched this fiasco you don't need to ask why.
TC must attend remedial time/clock management courses.
We're now at three games pissed away this season...and counting. /cock hammer...shoot foot
are angry about them not pulling it out - you play that bad on defense you have no business even hoping for a win.
I'm pissed more because it shows how much more rebuilding that needs to be done even though we are supposedly two years into a rebuild.
That's the infuriating part. Significant resources are still needed to be used at: RG/RT/TE/DE/MLB/WLB/FS/CB/WR. Not all are getting addressed next spring. When should we realistically expect to compete? 2017? And that's assuming, foolishly, that Dallad and Philly don't pull even further away from us in talent. It's very bleak right now. I know some see a light at the end of the tunnel. I wish I shared that optimism.
I don't know if I place this game in the same category Â
as the first two that we handed away. But, the punt return certainly makes it a close call. Good teams win those games and mediocre to bad teams find ways to lose them. Our QB and WR still give me hope because our division is bad.
I agree Randle needs to be gone. I would add Moore to that list. And, the more I think about it, I agree about the clock management. You can't worry about leaving the Saints too much time if you don't get the winning score. You have to leave your star QB enough time to have a realistic shot at the winning score. That said, I loved the first play of the final series. It would be nice if Randle made any kind of effort to catch it.
I wonder where this game ranks in terms of the worst defensive performances in the history of the franchise.
Most yards given up, most first downs given up, and most touchdown passes given up in a game in FRANCHISE HISTORY.
This game was ripe for a shootout and that's what happened. Eli matched Drew throw for the throw and deserved more if not for TC punting the ball in play with 15 seconds left.
Get Eli the ball back with a chance to win and he probably soes.
I had no illusion going into the game that the Giants would win Â
they havent beaten a QB of any caliber in quite some time and they have gotten killed by the Saints when playing on the road consistently..
However to come so close to winning to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is infuriating. Couldnt get one defensive stop and then couldnt get enough yards to get into field goal range..
Pathetic..
I don't know why several threads people have commented Â
about nobody blaming Spags. He has received plenty of criticism and blame, and rightfully so. I hate to be the I tell you so guy, but I have been saying for weeks that this was a terrible D and that he isn't a great DC. Without a dominating DL, he has never shown the ability to scheme his way to a decent D. This year is no different.
I also said all week the lack of pass rush against Brees was the only thing that scared me about this game.
Even the turnovers they have created have been more due to very good individual plays than schemes, in my opinion. The DRC INT was just a terrible throw on a terible decision by Brees. As soon as he released it you knew INC or INT. That is 100% on Brees. The DRC forced fumble to McBride was not due to the coverage or scheme. It was a fantastic read by a veteran CB who left his man to make a fantastic play.
They are in a weak division, but they are not good. Do not trust them. TC teams are well prepared, his players play hard. His late game decision making has been very questionable. ...I am fan and am not asking for his job. I am just disappointed. I work with a Saints fan, it is going to be a terrible Monday.

What does the DC have to work with.. most of the LB's are cast offs from other teams... DL has no stud and are a bunch of role players.. a rookie Safety who isnt a ball hawking cover safety and ONE quality starting DB..

Some of those players are guys he actually requested and have followed him around. So....
Everyone saying they should've punted out of bounds realizes they did cause a fumble there right? Would we be hearing those same complaints if the Giants recovered it?
nder talented team. We win enough to give glimpses of hope, but at our core, we are average at best. Denver, New England, Green Bay? We don't even come close. Injuries certainly hurt, but damn, we have a bunch of china dolls. I seriously hope we lose on out and draft high.
Pathetic.

Yes we would, but with a little less bite behind it. But, you most definitely would hear about the decision to punt it right up the middle.
to make some chicken salad out of this chicken shit. He has added nothing to this D. A great DC would make some adjustments so we wouldn't get beat by the same plays over and over.
Given our terrible d u have to go for the win. A penalty for pi that wasn't called yet again and a weak effort yet again from Randle. Definitely seems to be playing hurt. And if Harris makes that catch he is out of bounds near midfield. And we have won special teams turnover before which may have been the plan. And we did cause a turnover but fortunate bounce for saints

New England has even lesser talent according to the experts. But they do have BB and Brady. I can't believe he turned a UDFA into his shutdown corner but he has somehow.

Yeah, you're probably right. I mean if they recovered at the 50, threw a quick out for 10 yds or so, called TO, and tried for a game winning field goal, they'd get blamed if it got blocked and didn't try for a Hail Mary.
The punt didn't hurt them it was the stupid face mask. Sure without the punt there is no penalty but it wasn't like the punt was returned ala Desean Jackson. It was covered well and in fact caused a fumble.
The Saints had not stopped us all day. All you needed was a field goal. Extra timeouts don't do you any good if you only have 33 seconds. If you call timeout when the ball gets to the eleven they might run one more time may be two but remember they have to score. They were going to throw the ball. I much rather would have had one minute and thirty seconds and no timeouts. Tom does not know how to play clock at the end of games and it has hurt us twice already this year.
RE: RE: I don't know why several threads people have commented Â
about nobody blaming Spags.
What does the DC have to work with.. most of the LB's are cast offs from other teams... DL has no stud and are a bunch of role players.. a rookie Safety who isnt a ball hawking cover safety and ONE quality starting DB..
He needs players.. only then can you say whether he sucks or not..
BlueBlood, I agree this is on the talent, Kenard, not so bad, Collins is a rookie. We def need a stud MLB, along with some DL. Spags has garbage to work with.
Great post from a Saints fan. Good luck to your club (except when they are playing Big Blue).
It as an exciting game. But too bad it was decided by the refs. No call on obvious PI on Randle. No call on hands to the face by Snead on Wing. Then call a facemask? And basically decide the game.
Let the players decide it in OT. That would have been one hell of an OT, whichever way it went.

Disagree. If the saints hold em to 3 and out they win with ease. Tom put the giants in a situation where either they win or go to OT 99% of the time. Unfortunately a great return, fortunate fumble recovery and a gift flag (after it was announced no flag) gave them the game. The way we played it gave the saints basically a 1% chance of winning in regulation.
It wasn't covered well at all. It was a very good return.
You're right, my bad. It was definitely a better return than I originally thought. For some reason I thought it was only 10-12 yds but it was double that.
is that this loss overshadows a great performance by Eli. And my concern is that this will be the rest of his career.. performances overshadowed by a mediocre team that doesnt know how to win..

You can't scheme your way around players who should not be in the NFL. Brees and Payton aren't morons. They threw 50 passes... how many were in the general direction of DRC? 3 or 4? Hosley is just a horrendous player and so is Wade. Collins is inexperienced, especially in deep coverage. The linebackers had 5 well-defended plays out of about 50.
People blaming Spags are pretty much out of their fucking minds.
As far as the end of the game, while an argument for kicking the ball out of bounds can certainly be made, it sucks that the Giants picked that 1 particular punt to have their shittiest coverage of the game. The punting and punt coverage units have been very good this season. 2 guys completely unblocked should be able to make a tackle.
Please trade for a WR Jerry. I'm so fucking sick of Randle. My goodness this team is soft. The only guy who can take/make a hit without needing the trainer is the QB.
Ruben Randle
Andre Williams
Markus Kuhn...
These guys major snaps and are fuckign awful.
The coaching staff continues to mis-manage the situation and clock throwing games away. Horrible to loose like that.
We just have 3 of them every season.
We have seen this before, remember Matt Dodge LOL
Sounds like a litigation firm.

Because it's Matt Dodge. Oh . . . Wait. Could it be the coaching
I think We could have got the ball back
at the 20 with a Minute left and one timeout
I hated the management with a QB who threw
6 TD;s Really Terrible loss that's
3 winable games in the Loss Column
exactly
and the idiot punter can't grab the facemask
He had a clock management nightmare at the end.

He didn't play chicken, he got outsmarted at every opportunity
So, it is ok when you are a .500 team to lose two games to time management
This.
Sorry but TC is at the end of his tenure. Thanks for the HOF career.
He already set the record I thought in regular play.

Right. Save the long punt return for the final :15 seconds with the score tied.
A shame to lose it on that penalty at the end but damn, for a team with a large lack of talent on defense they played a great game. Great effort!
Now to enjoy the Seahawks beating the Cowboys.
He should be fired today, a coach can't be that fucking stupid on 3 occasions this year.
Fuck TC and fuck his supporters on this site. The Giants deserved at a minimum a shot in OT today.

I like your positive outlook. Wish I felt the same. Should have had this one.
it's like he knew somehow we would blow this
Special Teams never seem to be aware of details
and for the Clock Management thats Just Poor
Recognition by TC he can blame himself after
the game but its 3 games that we have seen questionable
management and it doesn't take the Loss away ...
Huge Conference Loss ...!!!
We don't get a first down on last drive.
ST coverage wasn't good.
Thought knee was down prior to face mask penalty.
Did a good job on offense
had no expectations of a win.....but leave it to the Giants to find a way to lose a game in a way that can upset me even when I was prepared for a loss.
We don't get a first down on last drive.

I might have done differently with the timeouts at the end, but we weren't short on time offensively. Just came up a little short.
I'm not afraid to admit I was expecting much worse.
Pathetic.
Never thought they would win, until Eli threw SIX FUNk'N
TDs!!!!!!!!!!
F this so called defense! And a extra FUCK YOU to coach Tom Quinn, and his beautiful hair!
Is there any other damn resonance this man still has a job with this team???
...the Giants are going nowhere in 2015.
Might as well start the 2016 Draft threads.
I don't understand why he would not assume Saints wanted to run the punt back for a final try at a FG.
And a extra FUCK YOU to coach Tom Quinn, and his beautiful hair!
That made me laugh
Coughlin is way, way past his prime. He should recognize this and step down NOW.
I don't understand why he would not assume Saints wanted to run the punt back for a final try at a FG.
Because TC is a fucking moron. The game has passed him bye. Jackass coach, can't even control an instruction to punt the fucking ball out of bounds.
make an effort for that ball, Giants win this game!
Ridiculous!
Sometimes you guys can't see the forrest through the trees. How about getting a fucking stop. How about playing some form of defense. 52 points!!!!!!!!!!
Under Coughlin in New Orleans they have given up
10
48
49
52
That is unbelievable.
Philly can regain control of the division now.
??? Why would you willingly punt to a returner in a situation like that?????????????????????????????????????
Lawrence Taylor couldn't help this defense. They are terrible.
Sometimes you guys can't see the forrest through the trees. How about getting a fucking stop. How about playing some form of defense. 52 points!!!!!!!!!!
I think most people realize the defense was an abortion today, which is why the time management was a problem in the first place for many people.
It's not either/or nor is it excusing how terrible the defense was (because no fucking shit the defense was terrible, all-time so).
Quote:
but I don't put this on the coaches. At some point the players have to make a play. The defense has to make a stop. Somebody has to tackle the punt returner.

Lawrence Taylor couldn't help this defense. They are terrible.
JPP and Prince might.
TC absolutely fucked up by punting the ball in play and allowing a return.
You think the guy would learn from the Philly debacle.... He has to go.

Agree, some real insight by TC there, especially considering we have eyes and ears too and watched it. What I want to know is why our punter did not punt that ball out of bounds. Bad enough that we could not convert on 3rd down near the end, but give the other team an opportunity to get the ball in field goal range? Seriously? I guess the word lose as a team comes to mind, because he put the final fucking nail in that game, atrocious when you have your punter making tackles too.
had no expectations of a win.....but leave it to the Giants to find a way to lose a game in a way that can upset me even when I was prepared for a loss.
so true
I do not believe that all of the young players have potential, but instead the salary cap has forced the Giants to keep marginal players and the injuries have forced them to play these players. What is a shame is the cap mo year wasted this year on Beason, Schwartz and even Cruz, who may not be able to ever return to anything close to his former self.
Its so simple that a 10 year old can make the call, punt the ball out of bounds and mitigate against any risk of a return play that puts your opposition in field goal range with 7 seconds to play, Are you fucking kidding me TC?
TC absolutely fucked up by punting the ball in play and allowing a return.
You think the guy would learn from the Philly debacle.... He has to go.
This loss is not on the D, are you kidding me??
Lawrence Taylor couldn't help this defense. They are terrible.
LT is just what this defense needs.............
I can't understand how either still get work in this league. I really don't. I didn't want Spags before this year and I don't want him now.
Maybe just maybe the talent Spags is working with at this moment is just plain not good. It is not like he has Strahan, Osi, Tuck or JPP to work with.

The game was a shootout, it happens. These games happen and TC blew Eli's chance to win the game by punting in play to the Saints.
Eli was just as good as Brees and deserved his chance to win the game.
How many first downs did the Saints give up?
The game was a shootout and TC fucked his team with a chance to put the O back on the field by punting in play.
As far as the end of the game is concerned, the ball had to be punted away from the returner. You can't give him a chance. The face mask penalty was a legitimate call.

Oh, I'm sorry. I must have missed where Tom Coughlin was out there punting.
Brees shredded this defense. It's why the Giants lost.
But I never expected them to be 4-4 at the halfway mark. They're hanging around in a weak division. If they get JPP and Beason and Prince back, the defense might be just bad, which is better than its being invisible.
The offense may be good enough to have them contending until the end of the season.

The Giants lost because of poor clock management by the HC and not getting Eli into overtime.
Link - ( New Window )
The players are terrible, and coaching is substandard as well, why not fix both to make the rebuilding process faster?
in the final 36 seconds the defense failed (TD), the offense failed (3 and out), the special teams failed (punt/coverage/penalty) and the coaching failed (clock management).
talk about coming unglued. but it's business as usual and this stuff should not happen in pro football

Coughlin was asked and said that Wing kicked it where they wanted to go. I think it was the 2nd question post game.
The no flag followed by payton arguing and replay changing the refs mind should never be allowed to happen to decide a game.

What did Reese ever see in Casillas, who is a terrible player, to sign him as a FA?
What did Reese ever see in J T Thomas, who cannot stay on the field, as a FA?
What did Reese ever see in Kenrick Ellis to guarantee him $500K?
To give him credit, Harris was a good signing but too many misses IMO

The ball should have been intentionally punted out of bounds not allowing a return play.

Ad TC said himself that Wing punted the ball where he was instructed to. Which was obviously a grave error that cost the game.
An awful awful job by the refs there at the end. No penalty followed by Payton bitching then penalty? Makes me sick

Whatever man, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. If you have to get your QB into overtime to win, you probably weren't doing a lot of things right to being with. Everyone has to have someone to blame I guess.
Pretty much sums it up. Sad but true
I wonder where this game ranks in terms of the worst defensive performances in the history of the franchise.
how about that one that was lofted up softly between two giants i think hosley and collins. awful...

Just caught last part but they wanted to pin them down near the goal line. Don't think worse idea, been successful with that this year.
Hopefully, the beat writers will ask TC or Spags for an explanation.

I'm pissed more because it shows how much more rebuilding that needs to be done even though we are supposedly two years into a rebuild.
A starting MIKE is also a necessity.
Randle must go. If you watched this fiasco you don't need to ask why.
TC must attend remedial time/clock management courses.
We're now at three games pissed away this season...and counting. /cock hammer...shoot foot

This game was ripe for a shootout and that's what happened. Eli matched Drew throw for the throw and deserved more if not for TC punting the ball in play with 15 seconds left.
Get Eli the ball back with a chance to win and he probably soes.
However to come so close to winning to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is infuriating. Couldnt get one defensive stop and then couldnt get enough yards to get into field goal range..
Pathetic..

As soon as he released it you knew INC or INT. That is 100% on Brees. The DRC forced fumble to McBride was not due to the coverage or scheme. It was a fantastic read by a veteran CB who left his man to make a fantastic play.
What does the DC have to work with.. most of the LB's are cast offs from other teams... DL has no stud and are a bunch of role players.. a rookie Safety who isnt a ball hawking cover safety and ONE quality starting DB..
He needs players.. only then can you say whether he sucks or not..
Some of those players are guys he actually requested and have followed him around. So....
Pathetic.
Pathetic.
New England has even lesser talent according to the experts. But they do have BB and Brady. I can't believe he turned a UDFA into his shutdown corner but he has somehow.

Everyone saying they should've punted out of bounds realizes they did cause a fumble there right? Would we be hearing those same complaints if the Giants recovered it?
Yes we would, but with a little less bite behind it. But, you most definitely would hear about the decision to punt it right up the middle.
It was covered well and in fact caused a fumble.

about nobody blaming Spags. He has received plenty of criticism and blame, and rightfully so. I hate to be the I tell you so guy, but I have been saying for weeks that this was a terrible D and that he isn't a great DC. Without a dominating DL, he has never shown the ability to scheme his way to a decent D. This year is no different.

Disagree. They caused a fumble on it and if not for the face mask the game goes to OT. If the Giants recover it are we even discussing it?
You're right, my bad. It was definitely a better return than I originally thought. For some reason I thought it was only 10-12 yds but it was double that.
