One of my favorite Rangers, so this is not an attempt to dump on him.
But his contract runs four more years after this one, so realistically Rangers may have to buy him out at some point. The way I understand buyouts for guy's DG's age, it is 2/3 of the remaining salary spread out over ten years. Sather frontloaded the contract. So after next year, DG would only be due 10 million on the remainder of his contract. If they buy him out, that would be a cap hit of $667,000 for ten years.
One of their better possession games of the season. They controlled play and Hank made the key saves they needed in a close game. The PK was really good after they gave one up in the early going.
Kreider had several good looks but Berra had the answers. I hope he doesn't get frustrated because his game is coming.
McIlrath is a load and is playing a crisp simple game.
Looking forward to tonights skate vs the 'yotes. BTW we've owned the western conference since the start of last season.

Torrag - I wish we would have started owning them around June 2014,
Good post. Krieder made a great move last night and couldn't find the back of the net. I am one who wants to see McIlrath success and you described it perfectly.
leads the team in shots on goal with 34. It's only a matter of time for him to break out.
when you see the ways Lindberg has scored, it makes you skeptical Kreider will ever just suddenly do what he is more than capable of doing. It's possible he just isn't a hockey genius. Talent out the ass but missing the thing. It's ridiculous that Lindberg has 7 5 on 5 goals from going to the net and finding open spots to put home rebounds, while Nash and Kreider can't buy a goal. Something definitely wrong there. And I love Kreider but what exactly is the delay here? He can skate like a train, hit people, go to the net, has a laser for a shot...it's just not clicking. THe guy could score 30 in his sleep if he just figured it out.

there we go buddy. All it takes is a god awful goalie.
Prior to tonight the Avalanche had played 14 games and lead the league in PP's with 59. Over 4 PP's per game.
And of course our heroes are you guessed it....DEAD LAST in the league with 31 PP's in 13 games. That is 28 less PP's in 1 fewer game played. Thats an average of 2.4 pp's per game. Islanders are at 32 by the way.

Anyone have any good theories on that one?
Yes we need to control the puck more and be a bit tougher on the puck which would draw more penalties. But i can't complain too much about 10-2-2
Nice mini road trip though albeit I'm getting a little bored with this sisters of the poor schedule to date. Good litmus Thursday vs St. Louis. For a league that bends over backwards to create parity - is it me or are there a shitload of bad teams this year ? I feel like there are only 13 teams in the league that are any good - unfortunately 4 in our division (CBJ is getting better but hopefully too little too late there)

Ok I mean, devils advocate or not I am not sure. And not really going to belabor the point but I don't really get the point you made there. The reason we don't "control the puck more" is because we have led in games for a ridiculous amount more time than we have trailed. Just using 5 on 5, we have led prior to this game for 312:26 and have trailed for 97:10. Colorado has led for 167:27 and has trailed for 227:07. If the team is winning they aren't going to dominate puck possession while teams try to come back.
Even if you ignore that fact, 28 pps in one game difference is quite a large chasm. To use puck possession seems a little bit of a stretch. Especially since they are behind us in 5 on 5 puck possession.
Obviously it hasn't affected the team since we are fucking good. But that number just sounds stupid and if you prorated that over the course of the season, you're talking about nearly 250 or so more pps in the season. So yeah not trying to get into some sort of argument over this of all things but I think there is another explanation although I don't know what that is. That's not a random small difference. Its over a pp and a half per game more for that team.
Who the fuck was lopul guarding or otherwise what the fuck was he doing? Backstrom all alone on the backside net with two seconds left?
Anyway not sure about the parity point - we'll see I guess I just see a lot more differentiation between the top 12 or so teams and the rest of the league than in other years. A lot of truly terrible teams in the league this year

PP looks really good right now despite so few opportunities.
Etem is putting pressure on AV to play him he was strong again last night.
Boyle is much better when he moves the puck quickly. He no longer has the wheels to carry the puck.
