The Nicks signing made me realize I haven't seen this guy in a while. I know they needed another body regardless, but unless he is hurt, shouldn't Davis be the next man up?
If they are bringing in a washed up WR that other teams have given up on (including the Giants), that doesn't bode well. I have to believe if Davis was showing promise he would be out there. Coughlin has certainly been playing the rookies. For example Kennard, wasn't he also a 6th rounder? He was on the field.
better than Nicks at this point. Probably faster too.
Did the team announce that Nicks was playing at Washington and Davis was inactive? I don't understand what you are debating about. All they have done is sign a WR to replace one who was expected to return but went to IR.
couple of seasons - there's every reason to believe he'd be ahead of Davis.
And there's no assuming Nicks is anywhere in the depth chart yet. We needed a body at WR to fill the roster spot, and he was the best option out of a very limited bench.
You sign a player at the same position to fill the roster spot. That is usually how it works. And that is all that happened. I have not idea where the, why not Davis is coming from.
Safe to say there's a delta between earning playing time and earning a roster spot, but he must be demonstrating enough promise to be kept and developed. I know they really like his potential and work ethic, and you need cheap talent in the pipeline.
May have more to do with body type than anything else
He is primarily a special teams contributor, first year in an offense that bears no resemblance to his college offense. Give him time. Even if he is nothing more than a special teams WR that's pretty good for a 6th round pick.
a poster (who shall not be named) mused, why all the fuss, why not insert Geremy Davis.
I replied, and I think it has some merit (prefacing the comment with a qualifier: I've never been one who says TC doesn't play rookies simply because they're rookies--he plays them IF they can play, unlike many of our recent draftees):
with the season coming down to a critical six game season that will determine if the Giants are a playoff team, TC may well opt for experience over youth, and Davis just has not seen many snaps.
And JonC is likely right: he might not be getting it done in practice.
Antonio Brown was a "green as grass rookie" in 2010 when he caught a 58 yard pass to advance the team in the playoffs. See what a guy can do.
Antonio Brown is an outlier, not the standard. Davis showed some chops in the preseason, but the idea there's something wrong bc he's not on the field right now is silly.
He's a rookie essentially getting redshirted this season. Hopefully with a full year + offseason in the offense, he can contribute next year
and the answer is usually the same. Kid isn't ready for NFL game speed, isn't demonstrating enough grasp of assignments in practice, or he's seen a few live game reps and spooked the coaches. There's also the likelihood White has outperformed Davis in practice, thus he gets the game reps.

This is an absurd point you are making. Are you predicting that Davis is the 2nd coming of Antonio Brown? I hope you have enough common sense to realize that he is far and wide the exception.
A few plays plus specials. Don't depend on the announcers to tell you who is in the game and obviously he's not going to be noticed if the ball isn't thrown in his direction or he is in on a running play.

It would be nice if there was some way we could know which players were on the field. Obviously commentators have so much ground to cover before, during and after plays that it makes it impossible for them to announce subs. Technology can pick up the slack.
I wouldn't be surprised to see this implemented in the next few years.
for the Cowboys his first few years and now has developed into a contributing WR. It takes times for them to learn the system....if only this was Madden 15 he would be in right away. :)
... doesn't get marginalized because Nicks used to be a Giant and was a first-rounder. The first-round luster died after the year he gave the Colts (if not earlier). White played in McAdoo's scheme; Nicks did not. White plays specials, too, doesn't he? Don't think Nicks is going to be raising his hand for that job. White's had maybe one bad drop since getting any playing time; he's hungry while Nicks is bored (except maybe on payday).

Why is Davis still on the team?
"Had another great practice", "going to take over for Parker" blah blah blah

The outrage can wait until Nicks actually finds his way into a game where Davis is inactive for something other than health.

Those guys aren't even locks to make the 53.

It's an exercise in futility.
