NGT: 49ers Put Colin Kaepernick on Injured Reserve

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/21/2015 1:59 pm
Season over. Perhaps 49er career.
I wonder if Chip Kelly
SimpleMan : 11/21/2015 2:01 pm : link
would take a look at him next season if the 49ers cut him loose.
Trade Value just took a bath...

plenty of teams ' trade target
RG3 or Kaep

I know Griffin's injuries would probably scare off a lot of teams, but curious to see where both will end up. If Chip is still at the helm next year, you have to think he will make a play for one of them to run that read option offense.
I would not like the eagles to get him.

He's very salvageable. He's played well and played in the SB and could be a SB winning QB right now. Niners are ruining him and that whole team and coaching staff is a cluster fuck. I think he gets with a good QB good and coach that plays to his strengths and runs the right offense with him and he'll get it done. I don't want him and kelly getting together. No thanks. His head is a mess right now and his confidence shattered but he isn't dead. Nfl careers are fickle and situations are a major factor in how a player turns out and what kind of career they end up having.

This league...

@BartHubbuch: RG3 and Kaepernick were great, and Flacco won the Super Bowl. The entire 2012 NFL season now looks like one big mirage.

@AlbertBreer: Six QBs went in Top 36 in '11: Newton (1), Locker (8), Gabbert (10), Ponder (12), Dalton (35), Kap (36). Gabbert's now Top 3 in the group.
What a dumb thing to say re: gabbert
MetsAreBack : 11/21/2015 2:25 pm : link
When he gets his team to a Super Bowl and nfc title game ... He can be ranked higher than kaepernick. Until then he's a backup playing out the string probably putting up terrible numbers for a terrible team this year

BartHubbuch left out Luck and Wilson from his 2012 NFL tweet. Griffin we all know about.

wouold love to replace Geno with Kaep

Kaep isn't any better than Fitzpatrick.
I'd think Kansas City would be a good spot for him
JohnF : 11/21/2015 3:31 pm : link
They can't really expect to get anything more out of Alex Smith, or seriously have Alex carry the team.

I think Andy Reid could get Kaepernick back to form, he runs a really QB friendly offense. BTW NINEster, what are you hearing about SF in terms of a 1st round draft choice? They could package Colin with their 1st to move up, I would think.
I don't think Colin has trade value
MetsAreBack : 11/21/2015 10:12 pm : link
For one it's an expensive contract if you choose the team option

Two he is - fair or not - firmly in RG3 value right now. Lot of interesting qbs will be on the market this offseason.
Chip must be

licking his chops. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he gets him. They'll certainly need a new QB next season.

Kap to KC is interesting but the fanbase probably has had enough of former Niner QBs....the list is enormous (DeBerg, Montana, Bono, Grbac, Smith). But of course having said that, that's what will inevitably happen. :)

Not sure about the trade value, and assuming the Niners pick in the top 10-12 this year, it's hard to say if their desired trade target resides in the top 5 of picks.

As far as contract, there's nothing really intimidating about it. It is a pay as you go, only guaranteed for that upcoming season by April 1st of each year or for injury. Unless the 2016 cap # is too high, it's all good. Any restructure probably would be for a team's benefit.

Regarding trades for picks, looking back on Alex Smith, fans around the league were surprised he had legit trade value, even those residing in the Bay Area. At the time there was concern maybe that releasing Smith could expose him to the Cardinals who didn't have Palmer yet, and that's not something you'd want to see.

Kaepernick could fetch anything from 1st round down to 3rd or 4th, or some combination of picks in between, and it wouldn't be surprising. Fans tend to be more pessimistic on a QB's trade value, but as we've seen QBs rarely go for garbage unless they've had sustained years of mediocre performance/team success (like Carson Palmer). It will be an easier question to answer as the year ends and we see exactly what happens with the Eagles.

If the Osweiler thing doesn't work out in Denver, there's chatter about Kaepernick being a possibility there. That style of offense would be good for Kap, and if I could turn back time and control things, I would have wanted to see Kubiak OC in SF.

Like Smith before him, the trade/release thing comes down to concern over division. Right now that potential team could be the Rams.

Just looked up Palmer.....traded to the Cards for a 6th and a conditional pick.
just read this post NINEster

i'll be my house that Kaepernick does NOT fetch a first round pick. Are you on drugs my friend?

4th round pick... at best.
Why do some people seem so scared of the prospect
Mr. Bungle : 11/25/2015 12:54 pm : link
of Chip Kelly getting Kaepernick?

First of all, we don't even know if Kelly will stick around in Philly, if this season ends up a disaster.

Second of all, Kelly just lost the Foles/Bradford trade, because the Rams got the better end of the draft pick compensation. So Kelly's going to trade at least another draft pick for another quarterback?

Third of all, Kaepernick has a pretty low football IQ. He took the league by storm because defenses were still adjusting to the read-option and also because they didn't have a lot of film on Kaepernick's tendencies and weaknesses. Teams are defending the read-option better now (including teeing off on ball-carrying QBs), and they have more than enough film on Kaepernick to know how to minimize what he does well and force him into mistakes.

Just because Kaepernick is one of the league's better running QBs, it doesn't mean that he's on his way to Philly, and it doesn't mean that he will Kelly will turn him into gold. If Kelly were such a miracle worker with NFL QBs, why has he burned through so many experienced NFL starters already (Foles, Vick, Bradford, Sanchez) in such a short time?
