LJ averaged 55 tackles per year after his rookie season and 3 sacks per year. What other young DT matched that production. Let me know if you find one because I couldn't and that's why I compared LJ to Suh, the dominant DT but with more experience.
My point is that LJ was a very good 4-3 DT with the Giants.
In plain stupidity, Reese preferred to sign an often-injured Beason and letting LJ walk. ( Good post. The rest of these 'experts" are trying to appear intelligent and knowing instead of just wrong. TMS )
If Reese had not stupidly re-signed Beason, Reese could have signed both LJ and DRC.
I know I wasn't alone, but I may have been the most ardent supporter of re-signing LJ back when. So he didn't accumulate stats re sacks, but he was damn good at collapsing the pocket, and he really absorbed and neutralized 2 blockers consistently. And he was a beast during the 2011 PO run.
So just please stop these phucking threads, it's spilled milk, and yes it was very foolish of Reese to let LJ walk when he could have been had for a fairly reasonable contract.
Joseph doesn't look like much of a game changer today
his only notable play was a roughing penalty which extended a TD scoring drive for GB.
Yeah, thank goodness he walked and the Giants keep using high picks to fill the DT position which is so deep Kuhn plays a lot.
Thank goodness we didn't pay him $12M guaranteed since we basically had his replacement in Hankins. Where we fucked up was gambling on Marvin Austin. Beason gets mentioned, but he got less than half of the guaranteed cash that LJ did.
yesterday when the Packers WR corps were struggling, so maybe overpaying LJ wouldn't have solved that either.
You realy don't know how to watch a game do you? Maybe all the Giants HOFers, Tuck, Osi, etc should not have been resigned b/c an opponents offenses scored and the team lost games.

Blows my mind that Marvin Austin was a 2nd round draft pick. Talk about a major flop. And Stephen Pea was drafted right after him. Its things like that, can really set a franchise back.
Yes the Giants won with a ton of money tied up in the QB
They won their second after giving eli the money something Brees, Peyton, Flacco, Wilson, Rogers have not been able to do.
Kapernack gets the money and SF goes to hell. Only the Giants, Pitts. and NE have won with the QB taking up so much cap.
Sour and nit pick we are the second best team of the last decade, so when you find a possible mistake trumphet it and I'll continue to believe that it's hard to be that stupid and that it's about personal agenda where most critics have a need to empower with hindsight as their weapon of choice.
Sorry to rehash an old thread, came here out of curiosity to see giant fan's reaction to the loss of LJ, and noticed a few misleading posts in this thread, thought I'd just drop my two cents in, coming as I have a different view point as I have no attachment to giants organization.
First off, the Vikings do not run a 3-4 defense, I don't know where that fact comes from, but it is inaccurate. The Vikings have 4 dlineman on a very large majority of their plays, and LJ is the 1-tech.
Second off, LJ is a steal at his price, assuming his play continues at the rate it is at this season. He is not simply a "run-stuffer". He is equally, if not more efficient vs the pass. Sack numbers do not tell the story when it comes to this, you simply have to watch the games. He consistently collapses the pocket from the middle, leaving no room for the QB to step up, which creates sacks for our edge rushers. The Viking also are well known for their A-gap blitz package which LJ is responsible for taking on two blockers, freeing up either Barr or Kendricks (or both) to blitz through the A gap
LJ is having not only a pro bowl season, but quite possibly an all pro season. He has been without a doubt the best Vikings player this season on offense or defense, and that includes Adrian Peterson. Mike zimmer has referred to him as "quite possibly the best 1-tech he's ever had" and zimmers had quite a few very good 1-techs. He's won NFL defensive player of the week and I believe he won NFC defensive player of the month. The website Pro football focus also has him ranked the #1 interior lineman in the league, above JJ Watt, Aaron Donald and Geno Atkins.
To sum it up, LJ has been a steal at his salary and is playing incredibly. Now with that said, I can't say for sure that he would be doing the same on the Giants if they had resigned him. I believe a large part of what has helped LJ breakout is the coaching and scheme of Mike Zimmer, because Zimmer is masterful at getting the most out of his players. Joseph was largely disappointing last season as well while he adjusting to the scheme and what was expected of him.
All in all, I would say it was a mistake by the Giants letting him go, but then again I'm not sure how good Hankins has played. All I know is as a Vikings fan, I'm thrilled to have him.
Good luck to you all the rest of the way, see you in a few weeks, should be a good one. Cheers
