Apparently in today's NBA, you can stick your rear out and just blatantly move around to block a player...until the ref decides to call one at the time of their choosing.

Yup, I saw that too. I'm gonna lose my shit. TWICE I've seen a rocket player actually follow a knick on their screen. Not just lean into it or stick out their rear (which they've done all game) but move their feet and follow the player to screen. And then you have that two handed shove. Holy hell.
I was coming on here to say the same thing. He's the Knicks version of Odell. I just pray he keeps developing. If so he's going to be really good in 3 or 4 years. Like All NBA good. His shot is a thing of beauty, good defender & rebounder. Great length & athleticism/coordination for a guy his size. He also seems to have great basketball IQ. I would not be surprised to see people say he is a top 3-5 player in the entire NBA once he fully develops.
of Zingis' basketball IQ and ability to learn quickly in the league is that if you remember early in the year, he had quick fouls and had to sit in the 4th a alot. Well in his last six games he's had:
3, 2, 1, 4, 2, 1 and zero at the half today.
DUde is going to be one of the best. Let's be honest

I never really thought he had a problem with fouling. Many of the fouls in his early games were ticky tack stuff or just nonexistent altogether. That just couldn't keep up. He's always been a pretty smart player. The refs willingness to stop screwing KP is what's allowed him to play more.
with KP but I can't fault any fans for getting excited over his potential. I don't know if anyone can honestly say that they thought he would be this good so early on.
For a guy who most said would take a few years to develop. Once he stops thinking and just let's it fly he's going to shoot a good %. Got a good mid range game, can shoot the 3, turn arounds, bank shots, hook shots etc etc. I am only 26 so I never really saw Ewing in his prime. KP is the most exciting Knicks player I think I've ever seen.

I'm loving KP, so much potential but he has a long way to go to reach ewings level, lets hope he gets there!
ok. I just think he was a little unsure of what would get called and he's huge so there were some plays he needed to adjust away from. He did it really quickly.
I'm not comparing him to Ewing at all. I'm just saying I missed Ewing in his prime. I'm too young so KP is the player with the most potential that I've ever seen.
Only thing I can think of is that maybe O'Quinn did something that the team doesn't want the public to know about and he's being punished? Fisher has shown that he'll play the entire bench, but this seems like something personal.
ok. I just think he was a little unsure of what would get called and he's huge so there were some plays he needed to adjust away from. He did it really quickly.
Oh, I wasn't trying to be a contrarian. It's probably a bit of both.
Is melo, KP, and Aflalo off the floor at the same time to start
Let me be very, very clear the kid [Porzingis] is talented .. and in three to five years, he may very well be big-time but this is about now. Because when you look at the fact that Phil Jackson picked this individual, youre talking about a project. Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks passed up on four dudes who are NBA-ready now And why did you do this? You did this because of some dude who may or may not be ready in two years?
New York Knick fans were at the Barclays Center booing because we recognize that we have been hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amuck, and flat out deceived by Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks. That is the situation.
could eventually be one of the five best players in the league. He has that much two-way potential. It's insane.

is probably shot, but twice he grabbed boards under the basket and went back up and had someone come over his back with no foul called.
Yeah but he got zero height on both shots. He has to put those in. Can't leave it up to the refs.
Height has nothing to do with it. A foul is a foul is a foul.
LOL it has a lot to do with it because if he got any kind of real height he would make those shots.
You want to leave it to the refs, I prefer he puts it away when under the basket.
"Leave it up to the refs"...you mean relying on them to do their job and call a foul? Um, yeah...it's kinda what they do (at least supposed to do). So by your logic, by having more "height", Melo would have made those shots despite being fouled?
Right, because all players still make their shots after getting fouled.
Have we figured out why O'Quinn is all of sudden behind amundson? O'Quinn was the Knicks best big in preseason now he is not getting minutes?
What happened?
now i am really curious too. Either way it's counterproductive. I like him.
It just doesn't make sense...why do amundson and Thomas get a long leash and O'Quinn gets benched?
Is it because they played on the shit team last year because if it is that is stupid...
How is it that this team has seraphim and O'Quinn in the bench yet the bigs in the 4th were amundson and Thomas?
As far as O'Quinn, he had to have done something, because him not playing makes little sense.
As far as Thomas, Fisher has shown that he brings in Thomas late if the other team goes small. And again, Thomas played another great game defensively.
and maybe scratch your head a bit, go take a look at Jose Calderon's offensive efficiency and advanced stat stuff...and compare him to the best PG available Mike Conley. You may be surprised.....

The thing is Calderon and Conley are on the exact opposite ends of the spectrum when he comes to the other end of the floor.
With him added to this offense they are really shaping into a nice looking team
and his defense is solid too. Amazing what a difference it can make when you have a legit NBA 2 guard in there. This team is really making me believe they can be a playoff team. Huge tacking off these road games early on and getting W's to boot.

Believe Porzingis is just the second player in NBA history to tally at least 24 points, 14 rebs, 7 blocks AND 2 three-pointers in one game.

You're right, he wasn't going up strong because he was pretty obviously shot. But that's why he was pumping and getting guys in the air. When they land on him it has to be called.

Holy shit with Zingis tonight. THat game is absurd.
That's fine, Steve. You can disagree...I just don't understand how
Nobody is relying on the refs to make the right calls but having more lift means nothing when you are getting fouled. To say that Melo would have made those shots with more lift despite getting fouled is strange. But that's fine, we can disagree and move on.
Have we figured out why O'Quinn is all of sudden behind amundson? O'Quinn was the Knicks best big in preseason now he is not getting minutes?

Does this have to be brought up every night? The team has won 4 straight, does it really matter if Amundson gets the 7 minutes a night as the 10th man?
Mike Vaccaro @MikeVacc 2 minutes ago
If Kristaps Porzingis were playing like this next year at this point, we'd still think he was way ahead of schedule. What a story.
But this knick team is starting to remind me a lot of the 2015 Mets. Just a deep and close knit group. These guys seem to have a great bond already after just 14 games. Keep it going.

I hate that people keep reminding us about that. If you look at BBI, for example, a lot of people loved the Porzingis pick. Some would've taken Mudiay over him, but that doesn't mean they didn't like Porzingis.
good post. It's an NBA line that no 20 year old has ever posted but Shaq.
yep. Which seems insane. Some stats like that seem a bit contrived and silly but when you think about one player doing what he just did in his 14th game, you sort of take a moment and think about how many other big men who are great hadn't done it.
when the Knicks were sucking mightily, but the worry was starting that we might not get the one or two pick. Chad Ford, to his credit, started saying that this was a 5-deep draft not 4. That there was this kid out there named Porzingas who belonged in the conversation with the top 4 in everyone's consideration.
And everyone, I mean everyone, said "huh?" and "who?"
And has a consistent back to babasket game he is going to be uganguardable...center will not want to come out to the 3 point line and 4s will not be able to guard him in post
Shows how little the scouting reports on international players should be trusted. Most basically said he'd be like a 7'3" SF whose career peak may be 10 and 5.
I was hoping we'd be 8-12 after 20 games, given the difficulty of the schedule. What an accomplishment it is to be 8-6. Haven't had this much fun watching basketball in a long time.
but I am wondering what Stephen A Smith has to say now about the Knicks taking Porzingis over Winslow.
I saw a segment a few days ago where he admits he was wrong but then says "Its not enough for Jackson to draft a good player, he needs to attract superstars to the team because that is why he is paid all those millions of dollars."
I know part of me thinks this is some sick joke being played on us. We are all going to wake up and it's going to be another April fool's day Sports Illustrated Sid Finch cover story again...
yeah but its ok. You don't get paid by the Worldwide Leader to be an "Expert analyst" and appear on tv to rant and rave like a complete ignorant maniac who knew as much about this kid as he knows about the captain of the BYU women's volleyball team. How that guy continues to live fine and keep his job after so publicly making himself and his network seem so clueless and fraudulent is beyond me. This wasn't Mel Kiper entertaining us and giving us opinions about people he at least has seen or heard about. This is a goofball who knows nothing about the college picks let alone a 19 year old kid in a Spanish league. DIsgraceful. I refuse to let it die. I will always remind anyone who will listen how much of a joke Stephen A Smith is.
It's hilarious hearing Stephen A. backpedal on this.
The whole idea of him having to "interrupt his vacation" to go on SportsCenter and bash the pick on draft night was hilarious enough - as if anyone gave a shit what he thought anyway. Now this bullshit about Phil Jackson...Knicks fans were planning protests outside the Garden just before Phil was hired. Less than two years later we're all on cloud nine. What exactly has Phil done wrong again?
He takes a lot of shit on here, some of it warranted, but Fisher has done a great job with the chemistry of this team. Much has ro do with the leadership of Melo and Calderon, but he deserves credit also. I also see him learning from mistakes and growing as a coach. Who knows how he will end up, but he deserves credit for the way this team is playing. I have seen teams with significant less turnover take more time to gel.
Godzingas is so much fun to watch. And Calderon playing better as there is much less pressure for him to be great. With AA, Galloway and KP, he no longer needs to be Melo's second fiddle and can just play ball. I never saw this coming with this team and I loved the KP pick. Basketball gods may have been smiling on us after all.
I just wish I knew what's going on with Kyle O'Quinn. Must be some drama there. This Lou Amundson fascination is a little ridiculous. He gives you his heart and soul, no doubt, but the guy is just terrible.
and Houston without Howard. If we can pick up a w at Orlando, we could go home off a winning road trip.
Minus those players or not, the Knicks of the last few years would have been destroyed in both those games on the road. The arrow is pointing up and that's all we should care about right now.
Alright, Calderon played well at the end of the game last night. I was happy to see Lopez on the bench the end of the 4th.
Why does Porzingas need a nickname.
Team is playing with a lot of energy. Although Melo hit a big 3 late in the game, he did not play a major roll last night.
Go Knicks.
I agree about Melo which is a huge sign that this is becoming a legit "team". Melo barely touched the ball on the offensive end late in the game and when he did he was moving the ball. Porzingis really owned that 4th quarter and it had nothing to do with his offense. His rebounding and defense were clearly the difference. He had 10 second half rebounds and Melo really got the game clinching rebound. We aren't the best defensive team but we can step it up when needed. We dont have the best defensive guards but we are learning how to play team defense. Sometimes when the opponents guards drive our bigs are helping out and it leads to an easy dumpoff for a point blank shot but more often than not we are rotating really well so teams are going to limit driving all the way to the basket. They are going to have to settle for pulling up for a midrange shot. You dont see a lot of good midrange shooters in todays game. It is either drive or step back for a three so this can really work in our favor. I am excited to see us grow as a team and if we make any trades to strengthen our back court.
He hasn't jumped much. He knows he doesn't have to. He's moved well as a help defender. He's got the length and mobility to be a serious rim protector. It's insane.
I thought he looked good in summer league. Now I think he can be the best player on a title contender in 2-3 years. Dear God, let him stay healthy.
Emmanuel Mudiay posted 17 points, two rebounds, eight assists, one steal and one block vs. the Warriors, but he shot only 6-of-21 from the field and turned the ball over three times.
Just how awful has Mudiay's shooting been? He's on pace to be the first qualifying player since 1960 to shoot worse than 34 percent from the field while taking at least 13 attempts per game. He's clinging to late-round value in 8-cat leagues, but is basically unusable in 9-cat thanks to his 4.4 turnovers per game.
but Russell has been invisible. I know that has little to do with anything and I know it's so early but it kinda warms my heart? Lakers passed on KP...yeah that could make me smile for the next 20 years god willing.
but Russell has been invisible. I know that has little to do with anything and I know it's so early but it kinda warms my heart? Lakers passed on KP...yeah that could make me smile for the next 20 years god willing.
I agree. With Seraphin at center, there's no interior d or rebounding.
There would be more consistency if they just let guys call their own fouls.

2 blocks
4 Rebs
1 Assist and only 1 TO
and of course no personal fouls.

I don't think anyone wants him to rely on the foul call. But you can tell he's struggling with the knee on the second game of a back to back.
That being said, yes it's a foul that should have been called.
The starting unit has really gelled...
If the bench can get squared away Knicks may have a better team than we thought

To be fair, Thomas had a great game defensively.

? He doesn't? He turned a shit show into a legit. playoff contender...at least as of now.
I hate that people keep reminding us about that. If you look at BBI, for example, a lot of people loved the Porzingis pick. Some would've taken Mudiay over him, but that doesn't mean they didn't like Porzingis.
He was part of the reason they won. His defense on Harden especially was outstanding.
good post. It's an NBA line that no 20 year old has ever posted but Shaq.

how Lance Thomas played 24 minutes and we won. Yes I do. KP.

Some of these guys are doing the little things you need to do to win.. Thomas is doing those little things..

I didn't tune in until later so I missed those hook shots. Holy mackerel. And yes, clearly he is amphibious.

yep. Which seems insane. Some stats like that seem a bit contrived and silly but when you think about one player doing what he just did in his 14th game, you sort of take a moment and think about how many other big men who are great hadn't done it.
And everyone, I mean everyone, said "huh?" and "who?"
Fun.

Ummm....how about wrong.

Those two have to be in a commercial together.

Holy shit that's brilliant.
Anakim, lol, great post, love me some Zuccs and pickled herring
Godzingas is so much fun to watch. And Calderon playing better as there is much less pressure for him to be great. With AA, Galloway and KP, he no longer needs to be Melo's second fiddle and can just play ball. I never saw this coming with this team and I loved the KP pick. Basketball gods may have been smiling on us after all.
Matsaps Porzucca
Krats Porzirello
there we go.
Only 3 times has someone 20 or younger had at least 24 pts, 14 reb & 7 blk.
Shaquille O'Neal did it twice
Kristaps Porzingis did it tonight

Minus those players or not, the Knicks of the last few years would have been destroyed in both those games on the road. The arrow is pointing up and that's all we should care about right now.

I thought he looked good in summer league. Now I think he can be the best player on a title contender in 2-3 years. Dear God, let him stay healthy.
Russell's played better of late
