NFC East race (after week 11 games)

ray in arlington : 11/22/2015 5:06 pm
Quick summary: The Giants can clinch by beating WAS, PHI and 3 of the other 4 games.

If Giants beat PHI and WAS, they win 2-way tiebreak against PHI, 2-way tiebreak against WAS and 3-way with tiebreak against PHI and WAS.

If Giants and Dal have the same record in remaining division games, Dal is likely to take a 2-way tiebreak via common opps.

MIN game is least important for the division because it is a non-common opponents game. It is possible that game will be irrelevant.

====================================
Here are the 7 possible tiebreak situations.
====================================

1. PHI vs NYG 2-way tie

Step 1: If PHI beats NYG, PHI wins tiebreak. If NYG beats PHI, go to Step 2.

Step 2: If NYG beats WAS OR WAS beats PHI, NYG wins tiebreak. If WAS beats NYG AND PHI beats WAS, go to Step 3.

Step 3: Compare
NYG: # of wins vs. NYJ, MIA, CAR
PHI: # of wins vs. NE, BUF
If same go to step 4.

Step 4:
If NYG beats CAR NYG wins tiebreak
If CAR beats NYG Go to strength of victory

2. WAS vs NYG 2-way

Step 1. If NYG beats WAS, NYG wins tiebreak. If WAS beats NYG go to step 2.

Step 2. Division Record: WAS 2-1 NYG 2-3 (since WAS win over NYG is assumed to get to this step). WAS plays DAL twice and PHI. NYG play PHI. If this ends up tied go to step 3.

Step 3. CO: NYG and WAS both have non-common opponent (NCO) wins and 1 NCO game left to play .

3. DAL vs NYG 2 way

1. Head to Head: split already. Go to step 2.
2. Division: DAL 2-2 NYG 2-2. DAL to play WAS twice. NYG to play WAS and PHI If this ends up tied, go to step 3.
3. Common Opponents: DAL takes CO tiebreak unless NYG lose to MIN and DAL beats GB. In that case it goes to step 4.
4. Conference record: NYG win tiebreak unless DAL beats CAR and NYG lose to CAR. In that case go to strength of vistory.

4. PHI/WAS vs NYG

Step 1. Best record among teams: PHI 1-1 WAS 1-1 NYG 1-1. If all end up 2-2 go to step 2.
Step 2. DIV = Best record vs DAL: WAS 0-0 NYG 1-1 PHI 1-1 If WAS sweeps DAL WAS wins tiebreak. If WAS loses twice to DAL go to PHI vs NYG 2-way tiebreak. If WAS splits with DAL go to step 3.
Step 3. CO: NYG and WAS have NCO wins.

5. DAL/WAS vs NYG

1. Best record among teams: NYG 2-1 DAL 1-1 WAS 0-1 If tied go to step 2.
2. DIV = Best record vs PHI. WAS 1-0 DAL 1-1 NYG 0-1. If tied go to common opps

6. DAL/PHI vs NYG

1. Best record among teams: PHI 2-1 DAL 2-2 NYG 1-2. If PHI beats NYG, PHI wins tiebreak.

If NYG beat PHI go to step 2.

2. DIV = Best record vs WAS: NYG 1-0 DAL 0-0 PHI 0-1. If tied go to common opps.

7. PHI/WAS/DAL/NYG

1. Best record among teams: DAL 2-2 NYG 2-2 PHI 2-2 WAS 1-1
2. DIV: Same as 1
3. CO: NYG and WAS have NCO wins. DAL has an NCO loss.

i got a bad feeling about Dallas. They are two games and Romo is back. May be too little too late but they aren't going to quit.

Bottom line: Just Win Baby!

HIGHLY UNLIKELY they run the table, they are a 9 loss team at a minimum

Just reinforces how badly last week's loss

can hurt us. Or, any of the four that we gave away at the end. This could come down to us being in a tie with another team for the division, but then losing due to a tie breaker.
Dallas has a brutal schedule up ahead
Milton : 11/22/2015 5:41 pm : link
Believe it or not, the Giants could go into week 17 with a 7-8 record and still be playing for the division crown. Or better yet, they could go into week 17 with an 8-7 record and have the division already wrapped up.

The Dallas loss hurts the most. We had that game but poor play all and decision cost us.

The Saints loss was tough to take and was the Pats cause we had them.

I wonder if JPP will be a pass rush force? We need pressure.
Cmon Carolina!

Turn Boys into turkeys Thursday!
How bout we just win the rest of our games and kick
chopperhatch : 11/22/2015 7:00 pm : link
in the front door of the playoffs with our dongs out?

Get back Princess and JT Thomas, JPP lending a hand and a half on the pass rush, get some more running game and make this offense elite.

Kill your opponent, burn the body, snort the ashes, then dance hard techno in February.

Amen?
Imagine getting into the playoffs with any of those records
Canton : 11/22/2015 7:18 pm : link
and getting to the NFC Championship game..

Believe in Eli!

We need more than pressure. We cannot tackle. We cannot cover anyone. We cannot run the ball. Shall I continue?

a playoff spot this year. this is a down year in the NFL like 2008 and we can get a 5th Super Bowl with the way Eli is playing.

Giants vs. Pats 3
This team is not Super Bowl quality,
Simms11 : 11/22/2015 7:42 pm : link
however getting into the playoffs would be very nice. Once you're in, anything can happen.
If the Pats are Super Bowl contenders then this team can contend too
fredgbrown : 11/22/2015 7:47 pm : link
if it gets healthier. There are no great teams in the NFL this year.
Just heard JJ on the OT talking up the great Romo comeback.
Reese's Pieces : 11/22/2015 8:08 pm : link
He wins one playoff game and everyone forgets how many years Romo went without winning a playoff game. His critical elimination defeats by Manning in 2007 and 2011 not remembered.

Giants have to play Carolina and Vikes, but Cowboys have Carolina and at Green Bay.

This is the funny thing about this season... if somehow the giants could get there... i could see Giants over PATS again.

Carolina is possibly great. Played great today building steam.

Pats OL woes will cost them.

8 wins should get it done.Giants need to beat Washington Miami
and either Dallas or Philadelphia to win the division.

And you give everyone else on this board a headache. You should zip it for quite a while until you learn your way around this board. Seriously.

The division games are crucial
cnewk : 11/23/2015 10:39 am : link
If the Giants beat the Redskins, their path to the division will be a lot clearer after this week. If they lose this week, everything gets a lot more messy. This is a huge game. Let's hope that the bye week gave them a chance to get healthier and they are well prepared going into Washington.
