Dallas -1.5 vs Carolina

did not expect this.
If anyone
Emil : 11/23/2015 6:28 am : link
watched the Dallas Miami game on Sunday, Dallas was lucky to get out of there with a win. A better team with a better QB would have taken advantage of some critical Cowboy mistakes. Anything can happen on Thursday, and remember Dallas gets the bonus for playing at home. I'm not so sure the Cowboys defense has an answer for what Cam Newton is doing at the moment. His mental game is starting to match his physical game.
Cowboys are 3-7
joeinpa : 11/23/2015 6:33 am : link
If Giants have to worry about 3-7 team winning division Giants don t deserve to be taken seriously.

very true
I would like to know the history of losing teams this late
robbieballs2003 : 11/23/2015 6:36 am : link
in the season being favorites over an undefeated team. This is just dumb and probably has a lot to do with the name "Cowboys" and that the odds of a team going undefeated this late in the season are rare.
I'm pretty sure if the Giants are the team
Headhunter : 11/23/2015 6:37 am : link
that went toe to toe with the Patriots that are adding some big pieces, I don't worry about anything other than being injury free from here on out. If they are, they will be a force to be reckoned with come the playoffs
Isn't this more indicative of the gambling public

than anything else? Considering their fanbase, I wouldn't be surprised to see that bunch forking over money on that game.
well

i am worried about Dallas
getting Romo back and getting that win was a huge boost to them

they were running very well (against a bad defense)

I think 8 - 8 wins NFC east
so until dallas has 9 loses I am going to be worried about them
Giants will not win
bluesince56 : 11/23/2015 8:07 am : link
division. We haven't had the Coughlin crash yet. Even in good years the Giants have had losing records the second of the season.,,, (I want to be wrong)

The line is reflective of people being excited Romo is back, it's in Dallas, and because it is so hard to go undefeated. I don't think anyone who follows football sat down and said "I just don't see the Panther's winning this one."

Probably panthers have to go on road on short week. Winning record of Road teams on short week are not good. Dallas with Romo back and enjoy healthy, plus panthers due for a let down, all adds up. I can't see panthers winning Thursday.

If there was a game for Carolina to lose
UConn4523 : 11/23/2015 8:23 am : link
it's this, on thanksgiving of all days. If I was betting I'd have money on Dallas which is why I suspect the line is what it is.
This Romo circle jerk amazes me
Headhunter : 11/23/2015 8:25 am : link
Yes he has had his moments. If you took a poll more people I'd bet would put Romo in the Hall of Fame before Eli. I really don't remember a guy who has accomplished less over a career get so much adulation from the media.
We're the better team
The_Boss : 11/23/2015 8:27 am : link
With better players. Don't be surprised when we win by double digits.
If Cowboys go 6 - 1
joeinpa : 11/23/2015 8:28 am : link
And get to 8-8 they will have gone 8 - 1 with Romo pretty much validating the idea that when healthy they are best team in NFC East.

Again 3-7 If Giants lose division to them it because they couldn't t beat an mediocre 8-8 record.

Sometimes fans try to figure out how their team can win without having to beat good teams.

Giants are in control of own destiny Cowboys don t.
If is the operative word
Headhunter : 11/23/2015 8:34 am : link
Projecting this great run by Romo just feeds into the narrative around this guy. The best thing that can happen to the legend that is Tony Romo is for him to lead the Cowboys Thursday and get hurt on his last possession and is out for the rest of the year. Romo would become God like if that happens
Agree....

Eh, Carolina is reaching that point where all undefeated teams struggle, so I wouldn't be totally surprised to see them lose. That, and it's a Thursday game where they're traveling.

If this were a regular Sunday game, I'd be pretty comfortable putting some money on Carolina, and I'm not the betting type.
If I'm Carolina who gets minimal National exposure
Headhunter : 11/23/2015 8:48 am : link
and I have an opportunity to show who I am to the country I'm looking to step on the Cowboys necks. How far is Dallas from Charlotte? It's not like they are flying completely across the country
Romo threw two picks yesterday
UberAlias : 11/23/2015 8:48 am : link
And their losing streak was about more than just the QB play.

Everything is set up for them this week, I agree. But Dallas has proved NOTHING on the field this year. NOTHING.

Let them win a few games to avoid a top 5 draft pick and fizzle.
I haven't
dorgan : 11/23/2015 8:49 am : link
done in any research on this, but my perception is that the home teams have a definite edge against the spread on Thursday games and a slightly larger edge on Thanksgiving.

2007. Started 6-2. Went 4-4. Last 8 games. 4-4. Super Bowl
2009. Started. 5-3. Went 8-8. Last 7 games. 3-4. No playoffs
2012. Started.6-4. Went 9-7. Last 6 games. 3-3. No playoffs

I didn't have the time to look up other years but the pattern is the same. This point has been discussed on this site many times in past years.
You picked three years..
FatMan in Charlotte : 11/23/2015 9:14 am : link
and even in those, we only had a losing record in one of them the back half of the year.

Just admit your point sucked and isn't valid and move along.
You cherry picked 3 years
Headhunter : 11/23/2015 9:26 am : link
to support your point. Do you think we are stupid?
Dallas has 3 wins, all with Romo
Bramton1 : 11/23/2015 9:27 am : link
They beat us in a game that our quarterback and coaching staff mismanaged to the point where a guaranteed Cowboys loss was blown away.

They beat Philly in a game won by the Cowboys' defense, not Romo.

They played down to a bad Miami team and won.

I don't think past has much to do with this year but I'd frame it this way:

2007: Started 6-2. Finished 4-4.
2008: Started 11-1. Finished 1-3.
2009: Started 5-1. Finished 3-7.
2010: Started 6-2. Finished 4-4.
2011: Started 6-2. Went 1-5 before winning last 2 .
2012: Started 6-2. Finished 3-5.
2006
shyster : 11/23/2015 9:43 am : link
And of course I should have begun the series with 2006, which had a 6-2 start and 2-6 finish.

what about 2013 & 2104

Carolina will win on Thursday by three touchdowns
George : 11/23/2015 12:25 pm : link
Dallas is a 10-loss team this year.

Maybe 11.
Mike Golic brought up an excellent point this morning
Milton : 11/23/2015 12:34 pm : link
Romo is not young anymore and he will be plenty sore after playing a full sixty minutes--and getting hit--after spending the last eight weeks in a bubble. Given the short week, that's gotta interfere with his preparation for the Thursday morning game.
lines are based on projected behavior of bettors
Vanzetti : 11/23/2015 1:36 pm : link
so all this line tells you is that fans who bet on the NFL tend to overvalue the Cowboys. Is there anybody here who didn't already know that?
If the Cowboys do win
moespree : 11/23/2015 1:39 pm : link
And it's possible, given the short turn around for Carolina and home field for Dallas, the media will make things unbearable. 2 straight wins, Romo back, and defeat an undefeated team? Not only will Dallas win the division they'll win the Super Bowl too.

make Vegas a lot of cash on this one. Sure anyone can win but the Cowboys are a flawed team in a big way. Carolina's D is one of the best and they have enough on offense vs that depleted group to do more than enough to cover 1.5
