...does this defense really need another undisciplined knucklehead drawing flags to extend drives? I'm not sold that his upside is worth the baggage that comes with him.

a sufficient number of impact DEs that I would think they consider a claim. DE is a critical position in a 4-3 defense and Coples was always a poor fit in the 3-4. He might thrive at LDE in a 4-3.
I'd say he and Moore are fairly comparable results wise on the field
He seems like a guy who might benefit from a change of scenery, but who would we drop to pick him up even if he does make it to us or clear waivers? I don't think he's guaranteed to be any better than Selvie.
RE: I'd say he and Moore are fairly comparable results wise on the field
He may be better suited to a 4-3 and we are borderline desperate for pass rushers even with JPP returning. You could sign him at the veteran minimum for the rest of the year and cut bait the second you think things aren't working out.
If he would take a practice squad spot I would definitely jump at it.
Doubt we'll even get a hack at the guy. But if we did, its unusual for the Giants to gamble on guys with questionable character. Does anyone know what the problems were with him with the Jets?

Not saying we haven't, but I can't think of anyone recently. Now my Jets friends are always quick to throw Christian Peters in my face, but yeah, that was a long time ago.

Will Hill. If the risk is low (eg not a first round pick or a FA with guaranteed money) then I think the Giants would take on a guy with character concerns if they felt he was basically beyond them.
Coples is virtually risk free right now. 2016 he has a big cap number (7+M) but it's 100% cuttable.
His number for next year is 7M and it is injury number. if you sign him and he gets hurt this year, you are on the hook for that 7M. He most likely will not get signed this year with that. Same reason Skins will not play RGIII
You pay him $100K a week in 2015 while he learns your defense. Then you get the exclusive right to overpay him next year. Unless you think he's worth close to $8MM on a on-year deal for 2016 (guaranteed for injury), all you're really getting is a big potential liability if he gets seriously hurt.
We should sign him!
You're gonna give them a 7th rounder for a player they waived? Brilliant!
Cut Moore!
Like Victor Cruz?
Hell yeah!
Yeah, just like Cruz ;0.
Can he rush the passer? Better than Moore?
Just going by numbers, seems like there's upside here.
had 16.5 sacks in his first three seasons, including a career-best 6.5 last year.
Barring injury I don't see us pursuing him.

He doesn't know any defense though, more than likely.

its always great when we can take someone away from the Jets and make them productive.
Yeah, just like Cruz ;0.
Sprechen Sie deutsch?

No it's not.
Christian Peter is 10+ years ago, times have changed.
Neither does Moore.
Weren't these 3 picks by 3 different GMs?

Just like they asked HK about Marvin Austin, right?
