Loss of DT Hankins

SGMen : 11/24/2015 1:34 am
I have a feeling our run defense will be gouged without him.

Our pass defense clearly has issues and turnovers have saved us. If the run defense is gouged week in and week out we are going to struggle to go 4-2.

I mean who do we rotate now who is any good at DT?
My feeling (and that's all it is)
grizz299 : 11/24/2015 4:30 am : link
is that Hankins was not playing at an all pro level. I honestly think that if Jenkins can up his play a little they'll be fall off, but not a disastrous fall off.

Prince is much better than Hosley in run support. JPP figures to help stopping the run and Brinkley looks like a huge upgrade over the kid who was playing MLB'er and I don't think should be on the roster. Thomas coming back should help too.

So there's a lot going on besides the loss of Hankins.
Loss of Hank...

is huge, no doubt, but I have a feeling the loss of Pugh/Richgurg will be felt much, much more against Washington....subs better be ready for a strong rush up the middle or it could be a long day on Sunday.
No worries

We have Kuhn!
It is a big loss, no doubt
UberAlias : 11/24/2015 7:50 am : link
But also a fair point which some have made that when he was in he was not playing up to the high expectations many here had had for him.
Kuhn actually played well against the Patriots...

. The Redskins are a horrendous running team. I don't see the Giants getting pounded on the ground this week...
Bromley is the guy that needs to step his game up.....
Simms11 : 11/24/2015 8:32 am : link
he's done fairly well so far and this is a very good opportunity for him to shine and help this team get to the playoffs.

i think Bromley could be key as well. Young and now with a little experience he needs to step up!
Not a lot of evidence but defense shut down Pats running game
Ivan15 : 11/24/2015 8:47 am : link
Why should we expect the defense to be gouged in the future?

The Giants got professional quality play from Brinkley and other LBs are returning. JPP plays the run better than anyone who has filled in for him.

i am wondering if DT Hankins was maybe playing hurt? He was so good last year.

Hard for me to evaluate from tv.

Honestly, I thought he was our best run stuffing DT - by far.

But my judgment comes from a Monday article with a short snippet. I didn't save the article.
Yes, we did stop the Patriot running game......
Doomster : 11/24/2015 9:08 am : link
But.....

The fact is, the Pats had to struggle just to get 5 guys out there....

The loss of Edelman, hurt the running game....

The loss of Lewis, the previous week, was huge for their running game, because you have to play the run differently with him in the game....

Both teams have injuries.....you play with what you have....Blount did not have holes, and the defense did their job.....

Speaking of running, anyone see this kid Spencer Ware for KC? This guy was on the practice squad, and holy Schicklegrueber, he did not look like a practice squad guy....
Need a strong performance from
JonC : 11/24/2015 9:11 am : link
JPP, Ayers, Bromley, Brinkley, and Collins to stop the run and force Cousins to drop back and try his luck at 3rd and long.

DC lost their starting C and LG a couple weeks back. Trent Williams has a knee bruise, so not sure how that will go. The DC OL is no better than what NE rolled out. Just get to Cousins and all will be well.
Doomster's likely correct. Pats O-line clearly was weak
Jimmy Googs : 11/24/2015 9:39 am : link
so the Giant D-Line is going to face some tougher tests over the next 6 games.

good point! All teams have injuries at this point.

DT Hankins, if truly wasn't playing well, then he may not be missed after-all. At least not as much as I feared.

This division is ours if Dallas and Philly both lose on Thursday and we win on Sunday and our next 2 after!
i have a feeling

youre just another whining little bitch that cries and cries and cries over anything possible. The Giants are fine, the defense will be fine. when that happens and they go on another run for their 5th lombardi dont say a fucking word.

Lets Go Giants!

think it's a huge loss. He was being double teamed on many plays from what I saw.
theres a

big guy in the building today
I think Brinkley offsets the loss of Hankins somewhat agst the run
Vanzetti : 11/24/2015 12:58 pm : link
Jasper is a big, tough guy. Obviously Hankins will be missed but as others have said, his play had leveled off. Against the pass Giants might be better off with Bromley.

Plus, with the Giants offense, you are going to have to throw the ball to beat them.

i have to believe if Hankins run defense was still DL's best his loss will hurt.

LB Brinkley is an upgrade over Ungainly and a hurting Beason but I think comparing a MLB to a DT isn't a true gauge of loss or gain. Apples to oranges thing!
Has Bromley done anything yet
TMS : 11/24/2015 5:38 pm : link
To justify hie controversial pick in the third round? Not a film watcher but his stats are not very impressive and no big big plays i can remember. He better step up now when we need him. Great story of tenacity but can he play football at this level ?

Bromley is already playing pretty well. Watch a game sometime. High motor guy.

that is good to hear! I just haven't read or heard any positive reports on him and his progress. We need a big body to step up!

Thats because with no JPP or any other credible threat on the D-Line, opposing teams can focus more to stopping Hankins then anyone else the Giants put on the line.

True.

I often wonder how good this team could have been had JPP and Beatty not been hurt! Flowers on the right side and a bit of a pass rush!

We shall see on Sunday if he line holds up against interior runs.
