NFT: NFT - You can bring back one dead musician

Mike in Marin : 11/24/2015 2:04 pm
(now, not cancel his/her death)

Who do you pick ?

Stole this from a FB meme floating around.

I picked Garcia. What say you, BBI ?

Great choice I did not consider and that has not seen on the FB choices yet.

I read it to be not just for one concert, but for a significant period of time. Which brings up a good point...like what would be the point of bringing back Jerry if he was just going to have a heart attack or OD the next day or week ? But let's set that aside and assume they would be around for a significant period of time.

I considered Harrison seriously. I thought of Buddy Holly as well, but did not seriously consider.
Some great choices
pjcas18 : 11/24/2015 2:14 pm : link
love the Strummer idea, maybe John Bonham for a Zeppelin reunion, but to throw another name out there I'll say Kurt Cobain.

I wasn't a big Nirvana fan, but he was so young and just starting to peak.

Jeff Buckley for sure
Mike in Long Beach : 11/24/2015 2:14 pm : link
If for no reason other than he barely was underway.

Fantastic choice. I give a lot more weight to songwriters than players.

I was just debating the Bonzo pick on FB. My response was "Really ? You're going to waste the pick on a drummer ? I would take Moon then, for entertainment value."
Tough choice
10thAve : 11/24/2015 2:17 pm : link
For me, it would be between Joe Strummer or Layne Staley. I'd probably lean toward Joe Strummer.

Yes...I thought of that one and a similar joke about "Bob Dylan before he went electric" but he's been too great (other than as a live vocal performer at times) then and since, so the joke would have worked a lot less.
No Hendrix?
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 11/24/2015 2:18 pm : link
I can hear Jimmy.

JonC : 11/24/2015 2:18 pm : link
Heart says Hendrix
And I'm serious...
BamaBlue : 11/24/2015 2:19 pm : link
Jim Croce. I think he would have been a superstar had he lived beyond 1973... Croce is one of those almost forgotten musicians from the 70's that went off stage much too quickly.

Love the Buckley pick and considered it very seriously. Can you imagine the songs that might have come ?

For the same reason, I seriously considered Elliott Smith.
Duane Allman

Syd Barrett

I think I stand by it though, but definitely in the other scenario, he was only 24.
i'd go
odunde : 11/24/2015 2:20 pm : link
warren zevon or biggie smalls
Great choices all........but give me Freddie Mercury.....
GiantBlue : 11/24/2015 2:21 pm : link

Syd is a poor choice because he was fried and lived for decades without any contributions. Why would he have anything to add now, given his mental state ?

Moon would be awesome too and I named Bonham simply for a Zeppelin reunion, but they have to be in their 70's or close to it which brings up the wrinkle in this plan, some of these people would be really old if they weren't dead.
All very true
beatrixkiddo : 11/24/2015 2:25 pm : link

Zappa is a great pick and shows you know your shit.
I wouldn't pick Garcia
Gman11 : 11/24/2015 2:28 pm : link
because he's grateful to be dead.

I would probably pick John Lennon, but only because I would have liked to see a Lennon/McCartney reunion. We would have needed to bring back two to have a Beatles reunion.

This is probably the best pick to benefit the most of mankind. I chose to be more selfish. If I had a while to consider and research it more, I would likely agree.
