NFT: Flyers at Islanders, 7:30pm Game Thread

pganut : 11/25/2015 12:05 pm
Okay, back to the Metropolitan Division. Isles made a tremendous amount of hay against the Metro last season (21-6-3). Time to carve out the games that need to be won (of note, though, against the "tougher" West, the Isles are 8-2-1 this season).

Tonight's lineup: Zidlicky back in for Pelech; Bernier in for Beck; Halak between the pipes.

Hickey began skating with the team yesterday and the thinking is he'll be back for the TB game. There was also a Strome mention in a Newsday tweet today:
Quote:
Cappy says they're keeping an eye on Strome - started slow, showing good practice habits, improving. Thinks they'll evaluate situation soon.

Ex-Isle news to watch: Kenny Jonsson's health is being closely monitored. He had been diagnosed with an infection in his small intestine, which then resulted in blood poisoning. Jönsson was placed in intensive care, and was also suffering from dehydration and sepsis, a condition that often follows an infection. Get well, KJ.

Mathew Barzal picked up five points (1G, 4A) in three games for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League. The Islanders’ prospect picked up at least one point in each of his three games this week – all wins – to extend his point streak to six games. The Thunderbirds have won six straight games, as well. Barzal leads Seattle with 34 points (6G, 28A) and is currently sixth in WHL scoring.

Meanwhile, in the OHL, Joshua Ho-Sang extended his point-scoring streak to an OHL-best, 13 games. His streak is tied for the longest in the OHL this season.

On the goaltending front, Ilya Sorokin continues an amazing season so far at CSKA Moscow, and now stands at 8-3-1 in 12gp with a 0.97 GAA and a save percentage of .957.

Get well KJ. Always liked his style of play...

Let's get back on track boys!
thanks PG

get well KJ.. he was the bright spot for some miserable teams.. the mid-90s were some bad teams BUT I went to a ton of games (went to Hofstra right across the street)..always enjoyed me some KJ

Garth needs to act quickly with Sorokin... I get that he's young and he isn't a priority right now, but the KHL will lock him up.

So, I was watching some WHL this week.. and Barzal was up to his old "assist" tricks.. and when the game was over they interviewed him. Who does he attribute to his play? John Tavares. He was saying how in such a short time of playing with him he realized that despite being the most talented guy on the ice, he's still the hardest worker in and out of the game. Awesome.

CMAC got promoted from the Phantoms to the Flyers..so we'll probably see #13 tonight. I didn't know he was healthy.. the last few Phantoms home games he hasn't played. AMAC has, unfortunately, but not CMAC.

Some guy in my section for the Phantoms has a NYI AMAC jersey. I need a better picture of him, but I think it's random/funny.

There was some Hamonic talk at the start of this Podcast (before they talk about NYR/NJD). Might interest you guys. They were complimentary of your team as well.

It was a decent listen. I think a lot of media - not these two - are trying to use the angle of the Isles being painted into a corner. The key is that Hamonic himself acknowledges that he may well be in NY until season end. Nothing that says the Isles "have to" make any panic move. In fact, I saw some tweets today where unnamed GMs have said that many in their role wouldn't be nearly as nice/accommodating as Snow is being. That's the mark of a good organization, and it comes back to you.

As for possibilities, I think that while Snow has talked about receiving equal value in moving Hamonic, I see other permutations that may see him moved not for a defenseman, but a forward. If it bore itself out that a team wanted Hamonic and was willing to move an Eberle or Duchene type, I'd do it in a second. Because the other shoe dropping is the decent likelihood that Okposo will be moved. If I knew I could move KO for a Dumba, Brodin, Klefbom or Trouba (plus), I can recoup my plug and play d-man right there.

Regardless, thanks for posting and enjoy your testosterone battle royale with pj and his Habs tonight.

I was at Hofstra from Sept 1994 - May 1998. I used to go to games Tues/Thurs... buy a cheap student ticket, get a beer and some popcorn and watch good teams beat the Islanders lol

I got to watch some good players (on the other teams).. fucking Millbury

to Syracuse to visit my in-laws for Thanksgiving during the game tonight.

Hopefully the team can overcome the coaching and the Hamonic situation and string together a few wins. Should be a nice crowd at Barclays tonight and the team is well rested so I expect a good effort from the squad.
The news on KJ sucks get well soon.

As for Hamonic wish him well but to me it sucks that this public that he wants to be traded.

As for the guys on the farm all I can keep saying is the future is very bright.

Tonight's games we need to win and get ourselves back on a roll. Go Isles!

Hamonic news HAD to have been leaked by another team. If the team knew for a few months and it just leaked now, some other team was trying to create leverage.

Fucking hate Bailey. He's completely useless.
Anyone want to tell the Isles the game started?
pganut : 11/25/2015 7:47 pm : link
Should have never been a penalty since Bailey was pushed into Mason, but as soon as I saw Cizikas lose his offting on the PK,Iknew it was gonna be a goal.
footing, that is.

Oh, good. An Isles PP. Maybe we can let up another shorty.

This team looks lost so far. Zidlicky is terribad.
LOL

PP predictably bad, but how does Cappy even concieve of putting Martin on the PP?

Yet, he's a constant in the line up. These guys bed a new voice, they've tuned Fred out.

would be great
I tend to agree with you
pganut : 11/25/2015 7:59 pm : link
But where is the leadership among the players? You have some vets with championships and some tenured players here. I'd like to see a bit more chippiness and some actions with a purpose; too much floating, too much tentativeness, and lots of lack of focus (between fumbling the puck and 2 golden scoring chances in close with Kulemin and Cizikas that should have been in the back of the net).
Grabbo
pganut : 11/25/2015 8:02 pm : link
C'mon, man. Missing the net entirely?
Wow, another miss on a breakaway
timintey : 11/25/2015 8:02 pm : link
great
Another game, another flat team
Funkhouser : 11/25/2015 8:05 pm : link
I'm done until Fred and his cronies are dumped. Every game is a replay of their previous game. Usually that means something needs to be shaken up. I'm not sure they have the intellect to notice this within the organization.
Shorty!
pganut : 11/25/2015 8:12 pm : link
This time, IN our favor...Zeeker!
So, the shorty aside
pganut : 11/25/2015 8:23 pm : link
Not sure I'd like the answer to this question: in the first period, if the teams had blank jerseys on, which one was the playoff team last season and which one missed the playoffs and is in the midst of a rebuild?

Hopefully, the Isles got their crappy period out of the way and play like they should the last two here.
Agreed
timintey : 11/25/2015 8:27 pm : link
that was an awful period overall.

But you know Cappy wont let the know that...
KO
pganut : 11/25/2015 8:41 pm : link

KO sneaks one in!

Giroux
pganut : 11/25/2015 8:43 pm : link
What a bitch. Puthim thru the boards next time he's out there.
Leddy for Giroux
timintey : 11/25/2015 8:43 pm : link
I'll take that trade off
Clutter with a golden opportunity
timintey : 11/25/2015 8:47 pm : link
...
Still don't know how Clutter missed that
pganut : 11/25/2015 8:49 pm : link
And Bailey has developed a severe allergy to shooting the puck, which he overcompensates for by turning over the puck way too often.
Thanks, Martin
pganut : 11/25/2015 9:00 pm : link
Martin taking off his own helmet gets us the extra 2. Just what you want to see when nursing a one goal lead.

Huge saves there by Jaro.

Did you see Schenn wailing JT in the head behind the net ? Let's hope it sets him on fire.
tim
pganut : 11/25/2015 9:16 pm : link
I think their BS attempts at agitation play into the Isles hands. They needed something to wake them from the slumber, and this may be the start.

Jaro has been big so far. But I can tell you Bernier is hot garbage (and a big reason why Grabbo and Kulie are not producing), Zidlicky is dunzo, Strait is...Strait, and Bailey is MIA. I need to see Boychuk tee a couple up and some more dirty work in the front of the net.
Schenn has always been a piece of shit
timintey : 11/25/2015 9:33 pm : link
and yes, Strait, Zidlicky and Bernier are all garbage... but Cappy loves them
