Yep injuries are junk
It doesn't matter

The Cowboys are done anyway
Their cap flexibility is shot
dpinzow : 11/26/2015 9:45 pm : link
Sometimes the Giants like to use the Bank of Eli to create cap room. Reese can do that because Eli is almost never injured. But Dallas can't do that with Romo because they might have to eat the last 2, possibly 3 years of Romo's deal with him not on the field (retired due to injuries or unable to physically play anymore)
Francessa and Aikman

I'm with you. He's a good guy, who is a talented but flawed QB. He's too good for that shitty organization ran by that egomaniac. Hopefully Jones will trade for Johnny Football and allow Romo to go off to a contender.
DK why would you take crap for that?

You do have to wonder if he's going to give the Cowboys any more healthy seasons. These are serious injuries he's suffered in recent years, and football players don't suddenly become more durable as they age - quite the opposite.

The Cowboys have a lot of issues going forward: Romo's health, the running back position, Witten's age, the OL's regression this year, re-signing or replacing Greg Hardy (clearly a ticking time bomb), and Jerry Jones reverting back to some bad team-building habits. They're very much in "win now" mode and may have missed their chance last season.

That's a good point about the draft pick. I don't think the Cowboys are gonna win another game. 3-13 might get them the first pick and a franchise reboot.

But, over the years (with the back injuries and surgeries ... as well as other health problems) he has proven to be a warrior and a lot tougher than I first gave him credit for.

Dead money figures for Romo
dpinzow : 11/27/2015 12:38 am : link
Pre June 1:

2016: $31.9 million in dead money, $11.1 million loss against the cap
2017: $19.6 million in dead money, Cows gain $5.1 million in cap space
2018: $8.9 million in dead money, Cows gain $16.3 million in cap space
2019: $3.2 million in dead money, Cows gain $20.5 million in cap space

Post June 1:

2016: $12.3 million in dead money, Cows gain $8.5 million in cap space
2017: $10.7 million in dead money, Cows gain $14 million in cap space
2018: $5.7 million in dead money, Cows gain $19.5 million in cap space
2019: $3.2 million in dead money, Cows gain $20.5 million in cap space

Even though they gain cap space, the dead money hits are so prohibitive through 2017 that they are stuck with the contract
Romo
NJGiantFan84 : 11/27/2015 1:01 am : link
Does play "tough" but he also plays stupid. He takes way too many hits while trying to keep plays alive. This is why he is hurt so often. He also rarely concedes a sack and always tries to break free rather than preparing for impact and just going down.

You have to be smarter when coming back from an injury. Otherwise, this is the result. Get rid of the ball and stay on the field. Even losing today the Cowboys would have had a shot if Washington beats us on Sunday.
I knew he was going to hurt the same shoulder again
nicky43 : 11/27/2015 1:16 am : link
And I'm not at all surprised it happened again so soon. If you saw the play when he hurt it the first time it wasn't that hard of a hit and the plat this time didn't even look near as hard. That shoulder is too fragile now and I think the cowboys would be wise to play on a new QB for next season because he's not going to last many games before it takes him out again.

He should just quit but more importantly Jerry needs to know Rome is basically done.
B in ALB, you really need reading comprehension help too often.

"This is, incredibly, bad for the Giants." meaning it's unbelievable how a star quarterback in the division getting hurt could possibly be something that could work against our team. And that's the case. The Cowboys are irrelevant now and the Skins aren't. It benefits the Giants for the Cowboys to beat the Redskins as things stand. This is just math.

You clearly read it as "This is incredibly bad for the Giants."

Definitely not scared of Kurt Cousins and I agree with your entire post. But there's this weird thing people do on BBI (and elsewhere) where somehow a fact of debatable consequence gets twisted into some overarching commentary on where we stand. To say it benefits the Giants for the Skins to face quality opponents and quality quarterbacks right now is simply a fact. It just is. They are the closest team to us in the NFC East, and with only 6 games remaining, that means it is best for us that they lose football games. This is math... honestly, the most basic kind of math.

It's not the same as saying oh no! Now the Skins are gonna win the division because they don't have to face Romo!

Not accusing you of this, but it takes a very simple mind to somehow draw that parallel. My statement was merely an observation on the irony that Romo getting hurt, at it's core, doesn't benefit our team right now. It certainly wasn't anything more than that. I agree with you. it's up to us to make this happen now, and there's no excuse to not take this division.

Yeah, no shit I get the math or that the Skins losing helps. All I am saying is that the other QBs in the division are currently Mark Sanchez, Kurt Cousins, and Matt Cassell. Win the damn division. This year is on the Giants, and if we are counting on any other team losing then we are just not a good team to begin with.
It creates $32 Million of dead money to cut Romo
WillieYoung : 11/27/2015 5:55 am : link
And an $11 million extra cap hit. He isn't going anywhere. They will probably cut Witten and others to create cap space to re-sign Hardy as Jerry will know this is the end for this group and try to make a final push. So look forward to another off-season of all Dallas; all the time.
If Romo doesn't get hurt maybe someone is talking about how horrible he was yesterday. The picks were unforced errors but somehow the storyline will be: "Injury to Romo ends Cowboys season" and no will (except maybe the guy in Dallas) will mention it was over before he got hurt.

If you remember I forget if it was 2010 or 2011 Mike Boley broke his collarbone in Dallas and I don't remember if he was out the rest of the year or came back later but since that time his collarbone has been an area of concern along with his back. And now this. Not once but twice he injures the collarbone and is probably done for the season.

I'm one of those who likes Romo. Over the years I absolutely hated the Cowboys and when Romo first came on the scene they talked about him like he was the next coming of Johnny Unitas. I hated it. They put him on a pedestal and didn't win a thing. But the guy has shown he is nothing but class. And it's unfortunate his owner seems like such a self absorbed sleezebag.

Romo after this has to be thinking in the back of his mind how much more can his body take. He's a damn good golfer as is well documented. It would behoove him to maybe try his hand at it full time and see where it leads. I'm sure when the time comes he could be a major player on the champions tour.
Never root for a guy to get injured. Besides, Romo was doing more

Big Blue Blogger : 11/27/2015 8:41 am : link
The other, IMO, is his indifference to bright lights.

Sometimes, lauding his durability is perceived as damning him with faint praise, along the lines of "The food on the buffet isn't very good, but at least it's all-you-can-eat." I see it differently. Considering what happens to most NFL teams when the starting QB gets hurt, there are few higher compliments for a franchise quarterback than, "He never misses a start."

A top five pick could be a big deal. More likely, it turns out the way it did after the Eagles tanked in 2012 when Andy Reid was twisting in the wind. Lane Johnson is fine, but he hasn't been a difference maker.

It could work out but the reality is that the Cowboys had a franchise quarterback in Romo. He isn't as good as everyone proclaims him to be but he is in top 10-12.

The Cowboys if healthy were probably a very tough team this year. Coming off a 12-4 record, they lose DeMarco Murray who was great (when healthy) in that offense but added components to that defense and were playing much better than they had last year. WIth the NFC being pretty weak this year, this could have been their year and they could finish with one of their worst records in awhile. (I expect them to beat the Redskins once and maybe win a game against the Bills or Jets).

They get a franchise quarterback OK. Witten probably isn't long for the team. What do they do with Romo? Who else do they lose because of their cap problems? What do you do with Garrett? - usually teams that win less than 5 games AND draft a franchise quarterback (he will have made the playoffs once in 5 1/2 years).

My guess is that they may try to take their pick and not draft a quarterback thinking that if they get a stud defensive player or a running back AND Romo back they can make some noise. The reality is that they should have lost to the Giants with Romo and he played poorly against the Eagles BEFORE the injury.

Bottom line - Enjoy the season. Dallas has problems and it all isn't because of an injury to their starting quarterback.
'Boys and top 5 pick position.

CK will be available, as will Bob 3, and Manziel.

With that OL they, stupidly(IMO) could take a chance on any of those 3 'mobile' QBs. There is no QB to get a woody over in this draft.
Knowing JJ they will draft the best RT in rd 1 so he can brag about the 'best OL in football for years to come'; either that or the best RB if there is one and re-envision '90-'93.

Just like Rodgers. Yeah, those scrambling completions are amazing but that is how you get injured.
Has anyone seen this yet?

"This is, incredibly, bad for the Giants." meaning it's unbelievable how a star quarterback in the division getting hurt could possibly be something that could work against our team. And that's the case. The Cowboys are irrelevant now and the Skins aren't. It benefits the Giants for the Cowboys to beat the Redskins as things stand. This is just math.

You clearly read it as "This is incredibly bad for the Giants."

The commas are there for a reason. And please be a man and don't backtrack. You read it wrong and you know it.

B is not too smart. He talks tough when the thread becomes a circle jerk, but that other thread just shows he knows nothing about what the guts of a clock looks like and what the components do. Pencilcases are also briefcases in his world.
Romo seems like a good dude

Who just happens to be a Cowboy.

Hard to believe, but he'll be 36 this April.

B in ALB... are you going to continue to avoid this? You're man enough to hop on the thread and act like an asshole, but with Washington having 2 games against Dallas, care to apologize for misreading my post and being an asshole based on that mistake?
bringing up old threads.... looking for an apology?

I like to live in a world where people are held accountable for what they do and what they say. Usually this world doesn't exist on a sports forum. He doesn't have to do anything, but when you come in throwing insults on people and not only turn out to be wrong, but misread the post in the first place, it's the right thing to do. Like I said, if you're man enough to start it, step up and eat some crow when you're wrong (and unnecessarily dickish).

No, you didn't name-call and you didn't misread my post. You disagreed. Obvious differences that I know you understand.
I still think dep should apologize.

We are adults... at least I think so. The anonymity of the Internet turns people into such idiots. There's no reason to read carefully or think about what you're saying because if you're wrong, whatever crap you spewed earlier just can float into the abyss of the Internet.

And it's twice as annoying from a guy like B who often talks about how he's better and more knowledgeable than others because of his high school football accolades or whatever, but when it comes down it, the dude can't even fucking read.
