Eli Manning

Big Rick in FL : 11/26/2015 10:39 pm
Just watched the Brett Favre jersey retirement and it was completely awesome. I kind of feel bad for Packers fans that they had to see him in a Vikings & Jets jersey.

I really hope Eli retires as a Giant. I don't ever want to see him in another jersey. I'm only 26 so he's by far the best Giants player I've ever witnessed. Everything seems to point to him retiring as a Giant, but people said the same about Peyton.

Eli doesn't get the appreciation he deserves from a lot of people. Don't think he will until he retires, but damn what an awesome 12 years it's been. Cried myself to sleep when we lost SB XXXV, because I never thought I was going to see us go to a Super Bowl again. Sure enough Eli got us there twice and won them both. Once against the best football team ever.

I know it hasn't been great the last few years, but going from a kid to an adult I got to see the best offensive player in Giants history break basically every record we had. Break a bunch of NFL records, win 2 Super Bowls & become one of only 5 players to win multiple Super Bowl MVPs. He's taken a beating & got right back up each time. We take it for granted, but look at QBs like Romo, Cutler, Roethlisberger who are always injured.

Thank you Eli!!! Look forward to you bringing us another Super Bowl trophy!!
Wish BBI had a "Thumbs Up" option.

Nothing else to say ... I agree with you 100% Rick. I think Eli will be most appreciated after he is gone and the hunt goes on to find his replacement.

It is not going to be easy.

Well said.
It will be interesting

to see what Eli's legacy will be after he retires. Will "the experts" appreciate him more ? For whatever reason, Eli just doesn't get the respect he deserves.

I'm just sad thinking about it. I got lucky that I got to see him so young. We have fans on here who waited 60-70 years to see that. I really hope I don't have to wait that long to see a QB who is as good as Eli.

Just look at teams like Detroit, Philly, Washington, Chicago etc who have never got to see a true franchise QB. Whose put his team on his back to win Super Bowls.

I really hope he gets the props he deserves. He took an embarrassment of a 4-12 team and won them 2 Super Bowls in 8 years. Once beating the best football team ever and the other time he lead the only team with a rushing game & D ranked lower then 25th to a Super Bowl.

I think he will get the props he deserves. Especially if he continues playing like he has under McAdoo. Give him another 4-5 years like these past 2 and I really don't think anybody can say anything bad about him. He's most likely going to retire in the top 7 in every major passing statistic plus at least 2 Super Bowls & 2 MVPs. I think he is going to win 3 of each before he retired.

Not everybody

One of my best friends is an Eagles fan. He once told me he'd cut his nuts off if his QB had a career like Eli.
Big Rick ... I think that you can make the exact same statement
short lease : 11/26/2015 11:08 pm : link

and replace Eli's name with Tom Coughlin. He is another guy who is going to be hard to replace.

Maybe it is because the years they won the SBs - they did it with mediocre regular season records (2007 10-6 and 2011 9-7) that people thought they got lucky?

Lucky my ass ... those 2 guys are going to be hard to replace .... and I hope(think) they will bring home another title to shut everybody up for good.

I completely agree with that. I thought Coughlin lost the team, but they've proven me wrong. Everybody can say about the mediocre regular season, but they can fuck themselves. They knocked off great QBs, Coaches & defenses in 2007 & 2011. If Plaxico didn't shoot himself we were going to dominate in the regular season & Eli/Coughlin would have 3 rings right now.

I know shit happens & you can't use it as an excuse, but we've had some unfortunate luck. How often does a teams top offensive threat shoot himself in the fucking leg & go to jail for it? Not to mention the insane amount of injuries we've had the last few years. Either way they are both HOFers IMO & it will be a travesty if they don't make it.

lol ... don't get me started with Plaxico. In 2008 I think we were 10-1 when he shot himself in the leg and then lost our last 4-5 games after that and then were "1 and done" in the play-offs to the Eagles. We could very easily be sitting on Eli's 3 titles and his shoe-in to the HOF. If he gets another one - he has to go. I mean right? That is why I want the 3rd one as much as anything else - Eli will be in the HOF ... right there with his brother.

2 HOF QBs from the same family ... please God! : )
I love Eli

Thought the same thing tonight watching Favre. And not to take any knocks at Favre, who I loved, Eli is so much better both on and off the field. I think Eli is the greatest Giant I'll ever watch play. And I appreciate him every single time he takes the field.
Great post

and all true.

And fitting to say it on a night when Ironman #1 had his ceremony, and Tony Romo got hurt again. Great QB but plain and simple you cannot quantify the value this man has to the Giants organization and how the owners must feel about this guy who has never missed a snap, and never has taken a game off by playing with half-assed effort, and oh yeah tack on the 2 trophies.

Really good post Rick

Eli is the greatest QB in SB era franchise history and there is no disputing that. Statistically and in terms of championships, he's the best the Giants ever had. We will truly miss him when he hangs it up as an all-time Giant.
I know you can't just count rings when it comes to legacies
bceagle05 : 11/27/2015 12:26 am : link
but it's amazing that guys like Favre and Peyton - for all their great success - delivered but one championship to those fan bases that revere them, while Eli's delivered two. Hopefully he's got another one in him.
You will never again get the combination
Headhunter : 11/27/2015 6:34 am : link
of talent, durability, class and competitiveness in one package as your QB. You might get someone with 2 out the 4, but never all 4 traits in one. If you really waste your time not appreciating what you have had every Sunday for going on 12 years and hopefully a good number of years going forward, that is on you. We are privileged to watch the greatest QB in the storied history of one of the iconic teams in the history of all sports. I appreciate every minute because I will never see it again
Big rick Thank you.

I feel the same way about Eli. Forget being underrated Eli is flat out disrespected. Just his ironman career by itself is enough for all other NFL fanbases to STFU but no...

I laughed this week at how everyones expectations of room's return meant the Cowboys were best team in the NFC EAST. Romo has never beaten Eli and the Giants when it mattered. If he did he never did anything with it. Now he's out again.

I can say this with zero trepidation. After that second Superbowl win, Eli became my all time favorite Giant as well as athlete. The biggest stage against the biggest opponents, where he was an underdog each week and wek twenty grueling weeks to bring a Lombardi to NY. In 2011 he did it nearly single handedly. What a feat.

What an honor to watch him play. I'm currently stationed in South Africa, seven hours ahead of EST. I make it my business to watch him under center every week because if he wont miss a game neither should I.

Enjoy this era. It may happen only once in our short lives.
Great post

I agree with damn near all of it.

It would not be earth shattering for me if he didn't retire a Giant but I think he will. The 2 examples you gave, Favre and Peyton, both were replaced by great QBs. OK The jury is still out on Luck. It's rare but it happens and it's likely the only way Eli doesn't retire as a Giant.

Even if Eli does finish his career with another team, he will always be remembered as a Giant. Just like Favre is a Packer, Montana is a 49er, Peyton will be a Colt, etc. Eli has been with and accomplished too much with the NY Giants to be remembered otherwise.
All Eli does is play EVERY WEEK
Victor in CT : 11/27/2015 7:51 am : link
at a high level. Always on an even keel. When he retires someday all the haters will be out there 2 years into his successors reign crying how they miss Eli, how great Eli was.

I've never thought about going to a HOF
Big Rick in FL : 11/27/2015 9:19 am : link
Ceremony, but when Eli gets in I will certainly be there. Hopefully that's in 10+ years as a first ballot HOFer. He's gonna probably retire with 55,000+ yards & 400+ TDs plus 2 rings and 2 SB MVPs. That better make him a first ballot HOFer.
I hope that Eli learns a lesson

Funny you should mention that, I definitely think Eli has the type of personality where he will know when to step away. One of the reasons I love Eli is because even though he loves playing football and football has been his life, he doesn't seem to be completely obsessed with it almost in a negative way. If they lose, they lose. He wakes up the next day and tries to get better, doesn't dwell on it because he knows he's lucky to be where he's at and there's life after football. Just seems like a really cool guy and someone to "gets it" rather than someone who thinks he's above the game. This is one of the reasons why I think he really does want to retire a Giant and wouldn't risk playing for another team just for the sake of playing.
Also to think
ryanmkeane : 11/27/2015 1:54 pm : link
That in 12 years he has never ONCE complained about lack of skill players, coaching, scheme, etc. Not one time! He always puts the team on his shoulders and takes all the blame. It's really unbelievable. A true leader - that NFC title game at San Francisco will go down as my favorite Eli performance ever, maybe my favorite game ever as a Giant fan of 20 or so years (I'm 30). After that night I basically told myself I would never criticism him ever again (as silly as that sounds).
