Kirk Cousins Has a Really Good Group of Targets

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/27/2015 12:04 pm
DeSean Jackson didn't play in Week 3 against us.

Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jordan Reed, Jamison Crowder...there are some serious match-up problems for the Giants there.

We'll also get a better read this week on how much we will miss Johnathan Hankins - Patriots different style of offense, it wasn't as much of an issue.

Cousins
AcidTest : 11/27/2015 12:08 pm : link
missed at least one, maybe two TDs, to Reed in our first game IIRC. Crowder has really played well. I'd like to see us run the ball to keep them off the field.

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/27/2015 12:11 pm : link
with Dallas Reynolds at center and John Jerry at left guard, I don't really see us being able to generate much of a consistent ground game (even though they are 30th against the run).

Thats not realistic. Running means punts.
Giants will show up with a strong effort

on both sides of the los, they're going to win.
Too bad Cousins stinks and is the one throwing them the ball...

Yet another game where Eric whines and acts like a huge gaping wuss? Fucking ponderous.
Eric like most of our games this year
Stu11 : 11/27/2015 12:19 pm : link
it will be a shoot-out. That having been said, I'll take my chances with our weapons vs. theirs.
they are long overdue
sundayatone : 11/27/2015 12:22 pm : link
to play a winning game against us,this will be no easy task in my opinion.
Garcon sucks
nicks14 : 11/27/2015 12:24 pm : link
For the last 3 years the Garcon has sucked big time against the Giants. Prince does a number ob that guy so until h e proves otherwise his name doesn't belong in that category.
You're out of your mind.
Andy in Halifax : 11/27/2015 12:26 pm : link
They are okay, not bad. Certainly not "really good". Garcon is on pace for 756 yards this year. He's their leading receiver. Nothing to see here.
the only matchup problem is reed
GiantsFan84 : 11/27/2015 12:34 pm : link
prince can play garcon and DRC always plays well very against d-jax. I'm not scared of crowder. the scary matchup is reed but I think the giants are going to come out really pissed off about the patriots game and put a beat down on Washington.

at QB.

Reed
Emil : 11/27/2015 12:43 pm : link
is really the only one that "scares" me. Jackson is still a good player, but he is not what he was with the Eagles. Still dangerous, but he is not as consistent.

I think if the Skins could ever put it all together they would be a good team, but they are quite inconsistent. Their running game has disappeared and their defense can be had.

I'm with JonC on this one, but I understand Eric's mantra here. It's been the same since at least 2007. The Giants tend to win when Eric goes negative, so thanks Eric!
At home, the Redskins are pretty good
JohnB : 11/27/2015 12:54 pm : link
on the road, they stink up the place.

I'm expecting a hard fought game and I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants lose.

Washington really sucks..Seriously..
Big Blue '56 : 11/27/2015 1:17 pm : link
I'd rather play them over the present Eagles and the present Cowboys..

Could they win? Sure, yada, yada, yada..

But they are less than mediocre..

Only WE can beat ourselves, imv

Cousins QBR at home is 112

I would recommend heavy pressure, blitzing
Although we did get Gronked
GiantSteps : 11/27/2015 1:30 pm : link
especially in the 2nd half (if I recall correctly), didn't we keep Gronkowski under control for much of the Pats game? I can't remember for sure, but I thought it was going to be a Brady/Gronk obliteration, which it wasn't.

I bring it up because although we are not very good at neutralizing tight ends, maybe we do a bit of what we threw at the Pats when we see Jordan Reed.

A pass rush would help too.
Reed is hurt, again
schabadoo : 11/27/2015 1:31 pm : link

Aside from Culliver
GiantSteps : 11/27/2015 1:59 pm : link
who is out/doubtful for the Skins as of now?
I think the only relevant name in the list eric posted
gidiefor : Mod : 11/27/2015 1:59 pm : link
is DeSean Jackson - he can be a cross the field thread and is very good at YAC - fortunately, one of the things we have done well this year is the way we've played YAC receivers. However, Jackson does add a dimension that we haven't faced with them yet this year. The other very fortunate thing is that the Washington Redskins Quarterback is Cousins - and he didn't face JPP the first game -- and I think that kind of equalizes the field.

It's gonna be an NFCE slugfest in any event and not a gimmee - but the Giants should be able to pull this out!
Cousins doesn't stink
Milton : 11/27/2015 1:59 pm : link
Like a lot of QB's who aren't Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, he's going to have days when he looks pretty bad, but he's also very capable of getting into a groove. Shanahan believed in him.
p.s.-- If Prince returns at the top of his game, that will help.

If you don't fear the redskins, then you should certainly fear the giants. We never know what giants team will show up. With all our injuries, it's even more of a concern. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Everybody else probable I presume.

gmen4ever : 11/27/2015 2:24 pm : link
And although Washington is not a really good team, they can move the ball. Also, Let's face it, our defense is mediocre at best. We have a solid chance to win but I will not be too optimistic until we have done so and the game is over.

I remember one of the first reports that came out in the media after we signed DRC. It revealed how when he was in Philly that he always ran stride for stride with DeSean Jackson. We'll be okay in the secondary, provided that our safeties take their heads out of their asses.
They've got quality receiving depth...
Torrag : 11/27/2015 2:37 pm : link
...but none of these guys is a difference maker. The only reason it's a concern is noone in our secondary beyond DRC and Prince can cover their grandmother.

Cousins is an average player. For me their lines are overrated. Their backers are mediocre. Their secondary is pedestrian. Washington isn't a talented club.
...
Mdgiantsfan : 11/27/2015 2:39 pm : link
Outside of Reed, I like the matchup of our DBs against their WRs. Add to that, Kirk is the QB and it makes me feel even better. Obviously any given Sunday can always be said, but this is a game that should set up well for Big Blue.

For me it boils down to Eli and Co. protecting the ball. If they don't turn it over, then I think they will be able to put up points against them.
The Giants best defense is getting to Cousins.
Boy Cord : 11/27/2015 3:02 pm : link
He is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with and without pressure. The Giants will have the three best defenders on the field Sunday with JPP, DRC, and Prince (DC's defense has minimal talent and it got worse yesterday with the loss of Culliver).

Since JPP's return the pass rush just looks better, even competent. Hell, the Giants LBs even look competent with Brinkley in the middle. I have faith in DRC and Prince to limit Desean and Garon. Cousins will be looking for Reed, Crowder, and Matt Jones as a result. The two most important defenders may be McBride and Brinkley. I also like the idea of Merriweather and Collins doing what they do best, and that's hitting. My favorite Giants game of all time is arguably SB XXV. They beat the hell out of the Bills receivers. Same thing here. If they catch it make them feel it.

It's important for the Giants to keep DC's receivers in front of them and avoid the big plays. More plays give Cousins more chances to make mistakes.

Back to DC's defense. Their front seven was supposed to be their strength. Rumor is Kerrigan is hurting more than just his hand. Hatcher has been the most active. For a lot of fat on the front they are doing an anemic job against the run and have 17 sacks. Keenum Robinson is out and week after week Cooley KILLS Perry Riley for his inability to shed blocks and cover. Murphy from Stanford has been a major disappointment.

Their CBs are Breeland and Blackmon and Hall. However, Hall is being forced into that role. Gruden admittedly wants him to learn the safety position. ODB should have a field day. An absolute field day. Eli needs to go after Vereen and ODB all day long. I know the OL is a mess (so is DC's, so we can't complain), but just get it in their hands and let them do their thing.

Back to the OP. I will take Eli, ODB, Vereen, Harris, Randle and Tye over what DC brings to the table. I like the Giants defense better as well. I will also take the Giants staff with two weeks of preparation. DC has one advantage, and that's home field.

The NFL is a week-to-week league. It truly is amazing the conclusions that are based on literally one game - hell, one freaking point!! In NY, think of the talk about Tom/Jerry and whether they stay or go. DC can turn into Philly sports radio in a nano second or they can talk about running the table. One point is all it takes. I like the a Gmen's chances.
Shut down the running game
David in LA : 11/27/2015 3:19 pm : link
and make 3rd down less manageable. I'll take my chances with Cousins consistently facing 3rd and longs.
One other thing DC has in their favor.
Boy Cord : 11/27/2015 4:14 pm : link
This is DC's season. Their backs are against the wall. What I can't figure out is if this means they will play tight or play like they have nothing to lose.
With Prince back
giantgiantfan : 11/27/2015 4:42 pm : link
I'm not worried. DRC has the speed to deal with Jackson and Prince can handle his side. If we can stop the run like we did the first time we played em we should be good on defense. We also didn't have JPP last time and you figure after 2 games and 4 weeks of practice he's knocked off most of the rust. This would be a nice gmae for JPP to let the league know he's back and that Nicks guy.
Look at this way
giantgiantfan : 11/27/2015 4:48 pm : link
would you rather be facing Jackson who is a go route receiver or ODB who is the complete package? Advantage: Giants on the W/R front, throw in our superior CBs. Everytime we play these guys people get worried. We've got Washington figured out until they prove otherwise. In the words of one poster we will rip off there heads and shit down their throats.
P.s.
giantgiantfan : 11/27/2015 4:49 pm : link
DRC is the BBI Giant of the Year so far IMO, maybe Eli if he leads us deep into the promise land.
i didnt see The Skins/Saints game
lono801 : 11/27/2015 9:10 pm : link
But after The Skin tossing 47 points on The Saints...I'm not 100% sure what shall happen come Sunday.

More so after watching the Giants/Saints game.

if The Giants want to sit at the Adult Table...this Sunday is key.

It's all right there for them to take.

Can't wait till Sunday. Gonna be fun...
Cousins his horrible
JOrthman : 11/28/2015 2:26 am : link
If we lose, then we beat ourselves. He missed so many passes last game. If he had even a decent game last time, it would of been very close and possibly a loss.
We've had 2 weeks to prepare for these guys
JoeyBigBlue : 11/28/2015 7:55 am : link
If this team has any fight in them they will win this game. Can't expect to us to run the table after losing to the Redskins.
Has John Jerry played badly?
SomeFan : 11/28/2015 8:25 am : link
as far as I can tell he has played fine maybe as well as Pugh this year.
Since Dallas..
FatMan in Charlotte : 11/28/2015 10:08 am : link
is dead and buried I guess we have to move along to prop the Redskins into being World-beaters?

I don't even think Lou Holtz used to make his opponents seem as good as Eric tries.

Weren't the Cowboys going to run the table?
FatMan
BigBlueShock : 11/28/2015 10:16 am : link
You're exactly right. It's Eric's shtick. He's been slobbering over Dallas and all that talent for 3 years, and now it's proven to be futile, so it's on to his next crush. I just hope this newest love affair doesn't last for 3 seasons, for his sake. And ours...
In my long experience as a Giants fan
Mike in Philly : 11/28/2015 10:21 am : link
I have seen too many occasions where they played down to the level of an opponent, losing games they should win easily. They've had a propensity to allow mediocre QBs to look like HOF candidates.

Fact is, Redskins do have talent in their receivers, and Cousins has, at time, shown the talent to play very well. The issue with him is he is not consistent with his level of play. We talk about good Eli vs. bad Eli, well with Cousins you get ok Kirk vs. atrocious Kirk.

As long as we win the TO battle and keep stupid penalties to a minimum, this SHOULDN'T be a difficult game. But...
You know what this reminds me of albeit not as hyped?
Big Blue '56 : 11/28/2015 10:24 am : link
1997 and Hoyingmania. The Eagles came from nowhere to win 3 in a row and move into a position to take the lead..We went in there and put an end to all that wishful thinking..
