Yes, because Congress knows that the terrorists will always get guns and something like this just limits law abiding citizens from getting them. We have gun coming over the border every day. Our government knows this which is why the "Fast & Furious" initiative was originally put in place. They sent weapons down south and wanted to see how long it would take before they started showing up on our side of the border again.
Not saying this guy is a terrorist as much as a nut job but (evil idiot) but what's irritating me is how the media refers to these (evil idiot) terrorists as "masterminds". Seriously, if you have a weapon and use it against an unsuspecting person you're not a mastermind, you're a coward.
That example goes against your argument. After 9-11 Congress passed a law making it more difficult for a terrorist to take over a commercial plane. No attack of that magnitude has taken place since.

This guy might very well be mentally ill, and that might even be the proximate cause of his actions, but I would point out that a true Christian Fundamentalist wouldn't just be taking the New Testament into account when weighing the morality of a given action.

The point I was trying to make is that it pisses me off when someone who claims to be a Christian goes out and commits a horrific crime that flies directly against the teachings of the Person they claim to follow.

And, if God speaks to someone, how do distinguish that from batshit crazy? There are 7 billion individuals on this planet. God might say anything to any one of them at any given moment.
Point being, there is no religious test for sanity.

Of course. Everyone gets to have a personal relationship with God. Everyone from every relious tradition, sect and mental condition. That's my point.

Dear, 57, was being held without bond at the El Paso County Jail. He was expected to make his first court appearance Monday.
The source said Dear has been cooperating with investigators since he was arrested. But throughout the interrogation, sources said Dear has been behaving erratically.
In addition, investigators have interviewed the suspect's family members, who have described him as "weird" and "unpredictable."
Sources also said the long rifle Dear allegedly used Friday wasn't the only weapon he had with him and that Dear took several guns and ammunition to the scene as well.
Law enforcement sources also said there were propane tanks outside his car. Investigators believe his intent was to fire on the propane tanks to spark an explosion, which in the end he was not able to do.
