This week.
I think he'll get one over Davis, who has not been a factor in the offense. Myles White will contribute on specials and continue to get snaps in the offense.
I don't want to over sell the return of Nicks, but I think his addition potentially means a great deal. I said it last week, the Giants need him to be no better than the 4th WR. Catch the ball when he is open, move the chains, use his body to gain position. Just be a pro-level WR. He may never be the Nicks of old, but thats ok, the Giants don't need him to be. If Nicks simply catches 2 or 3 balls a game, that is significant. The more reliable options you can give Eli the better.
Looking into next year a little bit, with Randle's FA looming. Nicks gives the Giants options. They can probably resign him at a very reasonable price, cementing three out of the four WR spots (OBJ, Harris, Nicks) while allowing the big bodied Davis to develop, and Cruz to give it one more try. I also like the kid from Richmond currently on the practice squad...just in case we have seen the end of Cruz.
Hakeem Nicks took practice reps in Giants offense - (
New Window )
he does, but so do other players. Also, there may be enough injured players this weekend that Nicks gets a jersey by default.

will be resurgent and by the end of the season we're debating whether he should be given a long term deal to solve our WR2 problem.
Nicks basically is a stop gap for this season.....he will be a slight upgrade from Preston Parker, with better hands, no more....Nicks is what he is...he's not a #1 or #2 anymore.....he's like the fourth option...the fact we have no TE makes him more attractive in a 4 wr set....
Hopefully he turns into a possession receiver and can move the chains....
If he performs well, and we can get him dirt cheap, OK...but until we see him interact with this offense, long term deals are out of the question....

It will be nice to see, if he does play. Eli will have some pretty good weapons to throw to.
Probably depends on whether the coaches are down on Geremy Davis. And how many O-linemen are inactive for the game.
But who knows. At least we know he's healthy and has had time to let his body rest.
The myriad injuries he's suffered to his lower legs? Like I said, I love Nicks, his performance in the 2011 playoffs was the counterpart to Eli's brilliance and went a long way in bringing home another championship. It absolutely ranks among the all-time playoff performances by a WR. However...
Do you so easily forget what he looked like in his final year here? Do you forget that he failed to catch on, long term, with another team? Do you forget what I discussed above, that a bad Titans team opted to cut him in favor of keeping just 4 wideouts, came that he hasn't been signed since?
I would *LOVE* to be proved wrong here, but take in the available information and be realistic: this isn't a savior, it's a Hail Mary. Realistically, securing the 4th WR spot would be a reasonable hope. But for those of you crossing your fingers to see the guy he was in 2011...don't get your hopes up. And please don't rip the guy when he can't be what you want him to be. Because I'm sure no one wants to see that Hakeem Nicks more than Hakeem Nicks. But it would be a miracle.
A miracle.
Although, we could see him and Randle out there with OBJ in the slot too.
Good to have him back, if he can make a few plays that would be great.
But who knows. At least we know he's healthy and has had time to let his body rest.
J Rud nailed it. I loved Nicks and I hope I'm wrong, but he was a non-factor with the Colts and he couldn't make the Titans roster. Lets slow down with the 'he might be our #2 WR of the future' talk
