Are the Eagles done?

trueblueinpw : 11/27/2015 10:23 pm
Can the Eagles still make a run at the division title? It sure looks bleak considering the way they've played the last two weeks. And its hard to see how things get any better for the Genius Kelly with a trip to Foxborough where Hoodie and Tom Terrific are once again chasing perfection. The Bills are a tough out, even with the dirty birds playing at home in front of all their knuckle dragging felonious fans you know Sexy Rexy will have his Bills all lathered up for their shot at another butt fumble. Then Philly gets some heavy bird on bird action when the high flying Arizona Cardinals come to the city that boos Santa Claus. Then a home division game with the Washington team that isn't a top tier team but that Washington team will probably be playing for their own shot at the division title. Then on to see us at the Snop.

Aside from the heartbreaking loss they'll almost certainly deal our beloved Big Blue, there are no easy games in front of the beleaguered Eagles. But stranger things have happened so I wonder: are the Eagles done?
Unless they bring in a new QB

I'd have to say they're done.
There are done as a team that's not done can be.

I'm not sure they win another game.

They've quit on their coach.

I never write off until they are mathematically dead and buried.
I had said 9 wins will take the East
Matt in SGS : 11/27/2015 10:39 pm : link
several weeks back. The reality is Philly is going to lose at New England and to the Cardinals. That will bring them to 9 losses. If the Giants win on Sunday (giving them a tie breaker), they might only need 8 to clinch this thing.

I can only hope the Giants realize how huge this game is for them on Sunday.
One thing is for sure
mrvax : 11/27/2015 10:42 pm : link
they will play the Giants as if their lives depend on it. Otherwise, they look pretty bad.

Sanchez didn't seem to be quite as bad with the Jets as he seems to be now. Maybe Chip's offense is to blame? Sanchez was an "average" never to be great QB. Now he quite frankly sucks.
They can't be

I was assured they'd be 7-4 right now. How could they lose the Miami and Tampa?

Sanchez is the same guy, but they run so many plays that it's just more chances for him to have a killer turnover. Just like with the Jets. And the sam has quit around him. They're done, but I smell a very close game against the Pats.
The Detroit game looked like both the players AND coaches quit

As big as this game is for the Giants
BurlyMan : 11/27/2015 11:37 pm : link
It's even bigger for the Redskins. This is virtually an elimination game for them but also a golden opportunity because they have the easiest schedule by far of any NFC East team. Beat the Giants and they are very much in play for the division title.
IMO NE will beat them

They're going to have a long time to think about their back-to-back humiliations. It would be very like an NFL team to rise up and play better. But if Kelly has really lost the locker room, they could easily be blown out again, and then it's going to get ugly.
Not the same situation, but...
Go Terps : 11/28/2015 1:16 am : link
between 11/13/11 and 12/18/11 the Giants lost 5 of 6 games. 2 of the losses were divisional losses at home and all 5 were in the conference. That is an amazingly bad stretch at a crucial juncture late in the season, yet they won the Super Bowl.

I don't think the Eagles are made of the same stuff as that Giants team, but until they're dead and buried I'll assume nothing.

good point! Not dead until the fat lady sings!
A win over New England could turn their season around.
wgenesis123 : 11/28/2015 4:14 am : link
The whole division is one win away from making a run with the possible exception of Washington who has started a winning streak. The Giants are the key to the division, if they beat Washington and get on a winning streak, they start to bury other teams in the division by setting the bar slightly higher.

There's an arrogance with Chip that dis respects the system. Getting rid of Jackson without even trying for a draft pick said it all and it said it early on. I am reminded of the coach who sent his defensive after Eli when he was taking a knee. Comptemt for the league and the way of doing things.
Once CHip's offense gets bad and they're getting three and outs that take up 20 seconds and send an exhausted defense back out...they were done.
Now report after report makes it sound like Murray is lying down on him and tripping over grass and sliding like a QB...that tells it all too.
Funny thing is I wrote all that in preseason and then saw them in Preseason and thought they looked great.
Chip's system is flawed, he didn't understand teh fragility of the Professional. Run more plays than the opposition in game after game and you suffer for it. Run five basic plays in the pros and they catch on.
I don't think they win a game the rest of the way and we beat the heck out of them at the end.

In all likelihood, yes.
Most similar situation was the 2012 season.
eclipz928 : 11/28/2015 6:52 am : link
Giants started the season 6-2 and went into the week 11 bye week at 6-4. The Redskins seemed dead in the water with a 4-6 record at the same point in the season having lost 3 of their last 4 games.

The Redskins played and beat the Giants in week 13 and went on a tear to finish the season and win the division. Meanwhile the Giants blew a couple of games that they were favored win down the stretch and ended up missing the playoffs altogether.

It doesn't look good at all for the Eagles or Redskins right now, but we've seen crazier things happen in recent history. This division could still likely come down to what happens in Week 17.
well,

I've been told that as long as you're playing a meaningful game in December, then it's successful season. so far, it looks like all NFC east teams are having a successful season.

In this division, it's not over til the fat lady sings.

And knowing the history of the giants, they're more than likely make things harder than they should be in situations like these. Giants make you say wtf?
One columnist in my hometown paper
blueblood'11 : 11/28/2015 7:48 am : link
The Morning Call, I live in the Lehigh Valley, writes and I quote "the biggest mystery about this whole collapse is how smart a man as Kelly- and he is brilliant, despite all this stunning evidence to the contrary- could have allowed this to happen.

What he is referring to is Kelly's system and how if it gets shut down as it often does puts so much pressure on his defense. You see it game in and game out. The columnist goes on to say instead of trying to slow things down Kelly's philosophy to fix the problem is speed things up.

Does this sound like a brilliant tactition? He spends his whole column tearing down everything the guy stands for and how it does not work at the NFL level and through rose colored states his brilliance. If the guy was so brilliant and innovative he would find a way to make his system work at the NFL level.

This isn't college. This is the NFL. You run the same basic plays game in and game out the league will conspire against you and shut you down. Hie philosophy is to run as many plays as you can to catch the defense out of position and not allow them to substitute. His quarterbacks have no time at the line to change the play if the defense is the right one for that play. Plus he runs the same 5 or 6 plays all game long.

He's brilliant alright. He's also stupid if he doesn't try to adapt to what he NFL has already done. Figured out how to shut his offense down.

Only Chip will be making a run. Out of town that is. To sign a mega
Victor in CT : 11/28/2015 8:10 am : link
deal with USC or Texas. Or maybe even LSU. Rumors are that they are trying to run Les Miles out of town.

And predicted they would be 7-4 after beating the Cowboys, but the Eagles are as done as done can be. To get outscored 90-28 by the Bucs and Lions is just a terrible job. if we win tomorrow, we would really have to mess this thing up not to win the division. We have 5 games left after tomorrow and only one of them is against a team we shouldn't beat, and that is the Panthers. We can certainly lose to the Vikings and it is not an easy game, but we could win that one, too. Jets and Philly are going the wrong way and Miami is a bad football team. If we can't get to 8 with that schedule, than shame on us
The thing is
ThreePoints : 11/28/2015 8:58 am : link
if his offense has the guys to run it, it works incredibly well and puts points on the board. And that does create pressure on other defenses, but also plenty on his own. But, if the defense allows field goals and not touchdowns (hasn't happened recently), you'd win a lot of games.

It almost reminds me of those Colts team with Peyton Manning, really in his prime. They could almost score at will, and his defense could play well enough to just get a win. But, if the offense isn't working, that creates a ton of pressure on the defense that probably can't handle it.

Really, Chip in the GM role has failed Chip the coach. But, he's unlikely to strip himself of that power, which is why people believe he's out.
ThreePoints
blueblood'11 : 11/28/2015 9:14 am : link
I don't think the two are the same at all. It's just that the Colts defenses weren't that good period. Manning ran the offense from the line of scrimmage and made all the adjustments he needed when he saw what the defense was giving him. While it was a no huddle offense it wasn't a hurry up run it at break neck speed like Chip Kelly employs. They could score at will and sometimes it happened fast but it also knew how to slow things down and milk the clock while still being able to score.

2009: Coughlin's lost this team. there will be a carry over..

2013-2014: It's time to clean house. Make the playoffs in 2015 or TC's gone..TBD

I've heard this shit too often..It sells papers or results in clicks..

...that doesn't mean they aren't a threat to us in Week 17 if we don't have the division sown up. They'd like nothing more than to piss in our cheerios given half a chance. Recent history shows that is exactly what they are capable of doing if we don't come out and step on their necks.
They may be about done if NYG win

I don't think the Giants' stretch of 1-5 over 6 games was remotely akin to the Eagles' last two loses. So IMO that's a lousy analogy, or at least a very poorly thought out one, for so many reasons I really don't want to get into the details. Two simple points I will mention are that the Giants lost to some of the best teams in the league during that "bad" stretch, including the 9ers and Packers whom they later beat in the playoffs. Also in the past 2 Eagles' loses the total margin of defeat was considerably more than the margin of defeat in all 5 Giants' loses in 2011.

I get your point Terps, but don't think that was a relevant example of how the NFL can surprise.
The team has flat out quit the last two games.
St. Jimmy : 11/28/2015 4:29 pm : link
The announcers are calling out Jason Peters for not wanting to go back into the game. Kelly has them practice when other teams are off. They also have to deal with sleep monitors and diets from the team. I would be shocked if the team suddenly starts playing for him again. Once the dictator loses the team, they are gone.
