And for what its worth, Jones didn't drop that pass the other night. The Cornerback got in the mix there and did his job on a pass that was defensible.
But don't get me wrong, would love to see Nicks contribute. We need it and it would make for a nice story.
to remain in the league. He needs to become a possession receiver because he no longer has the speed he used to. He was never a burner but due to his strength and hands he was an excellent down field threat.
does not need to be straight line fast to be successful in this offense, he needs to have good short area speed burst with sudden movement in his feet and hands.
I think Nicks is going to surprise a lot of people with his production.
agenda when it comes to Jones is that Reese is a fucking idiot for letting him go, regardless if the guy went a stretch of 5 games with 7 catches and has been about as pedestrian as a #2 WR would be.
But he's caught some TD's, so Reese sucks.
If a Giant WR misses a catch at the end of this week's game like Jones did, no doubt it will be called a drop. We've already seen Randle take that wrath for plays that weren't actually drops already this year.
And yes, it wouldn't surprise me if he made a key play or even a winning TD catch before the season's out, but he's slow as shit and very limited at this point in his career.
I hope he retires as a Giant, he was a great one for a limited time unfortunately
possession receiver for the Giants and made a contribution -
I envision with his hands and arm length that if they created some mismatches for him - while Randle and Beckham were on the field that he could grab the ball with his meat hooks. I don't think anybody is under any disillusion about him - as his speed has declined -- but his natural size advantage, ability to go up and get the ball, and experience could work to the Giants benefit if they utilize him in, and he accepts, the proper role for his skill set
Jones has some serious weaknesses. Nicks has even bigger ones. At this point nicks likely would not be a top 100 WR in the NFL. Sad to see him fall so far.
Both at this are borderline NFL roster players. They have jobs because guys get hurt or younger guys fail to develop and teams need veterans who can learn a play book and not screw up the simple stuff.
The team not keeping jones sucks but the guy has been shutout twice this season and didn't want to be the 4th WR. He goes from seemingly unstoppable to almost worthless week to week. Our staff also for some reason believed Cruz was coming back and Parker was improving.
I expect by seasons end that Harris is valued higher than both Nicks and Jones as a WR even discounting his special teams play. I expect by season end Parker is washing cars, assuming he can hang onto a bucket and sponge without dropping it.
1. A couple of years ago when Nicks was younger, he could not shake a CB and was running in quick sand. Not sure why anyone thinks Nicks will have fresher legs under him a couple of years later. He also had the "drops" in his last season with us but that I think he could correct easily enough.
2. Regarding the James Jones "drop" on Thanksgiving. Is there anyone here who really knows how to play the position? Sure, the CB had his hand in there and prevented Jones from completing the catch. However, the real issue on this play was the fact that Jones was still fading and did not come back toward the goal line to shield the CB. If he did that, he would have had a opportunity to catch the ball without the defender's hand in the mix. Any WR coach watching that play again would point that out.
Wasn't the fastest neither, but he got the job done. Nicks is nothing more than a possession receiver at this point. But i still think, he can be a weapon that Eli can use.
was released because we thought he'd be the fourth receiver, despite what we knew about Cruz and Randle. Cruz in fact should have been on short term IR. Had we not made that mistake, Jones would have been kept, and he would have likely helped the team.

I* Rogers had thrown it outside away *rom the de*ender, he would never had that hand in there...
I understand your concern but with all due respect do you have some inside infrormation that Nicks' knee is not okay? It is unlike the Giants to sign anyone with any inkling that they are not healthy enough to play at the time they look at the possibility of bringing them into the fold.
available. But, as 3147 posters have said, if something happens to OBJ, RR or Harris, Nicks may be more useful than anyone else on the roster. And even with a bum knee, Nicks may be able to move the chains.
Everybody on BBI used to dump on Steve Smith for going fetal when he got the first down, but I'd love to see Nicks doing it over and over and over...
I have a feeling some people are going to be eating their words here Â
None of us have seen him run. Just a lot of speculation based on the fact that he didn't pan out anywhere since leaving here. So that is circumstantial speculation.
I will say this, he did not look like a guy who had lost all of his speed when he torched us in the preseason last year, and to my knowledge has not had any further injuries since then. My read is that his issues since leaving have been more psychological and chemistry than physical, but that is my speculation.
If there were a place and time for him to succeed, it is here and now.
have seen him run since he was resigned? Our coaches have and they re-signed him so STFU. This Board has become like the Republican presidential primary candidates- - totally unencumbered by fact.
they don't like being wrong. I hope Nicks kicks arsss but Jones would have been a plus on this team. All WR drop some passes not all make as many plays. Just saying he is much better than Parker and others.
RE: Exactly which one of you assholes posting Nicks is slow comments Â

Way to slip your own political opinion into a football conversation. Nice job j@ck@ass!

Willie - I was one of those assholes. And based on how slow he looked last season and during preseason this year. So unless you can tell me he miraculously got faster in 4 months I will stand by my post and my vote.
Nick's body age- 76
Not sure if I read that through the posts made by people who act like he's had an All-Pro season thus far.
Nicks will need to demonstrate he can do enough to be a possession receiver to move the chains.

James Jones – Arm Length 32½“ Hand Size 9¾” 40 yd Dash 4.58 3 Cone 7.06
James Jones – Arm Length 32½“ Hand Size 9¾” 40 yd Dash 4.58 3 Cone 7.06
Slight correction for current day
Hakeem Nicks – 40 yd Dash 14.51
Because that doesn't fit their agenda.

Nicks: Not deemed an NFL player until week 10
Jones: 592, 7 TDs and nearly 20 YPC on a 7 and 4 team.
Both at this are borderline NFL roster players. They have jobs because guys get hurt or younger guys fail to develop and teams need veterans who can learn a play book and not screw up the simple stuff.

The light will go on one of these days!
3 catches for 47 yds and a td.

he will have some measured success like Burress did when he returned to the Steelers a couple of years ago

measured "success". Or like when Manningham came back to the Giants.
