The Giants signed Shane McDermott to the Practice Squad in November 2015. McDermott was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2015 NFL Draft. The Cowboys cut him in early September. He spent a week on the Practice Squad of the Carolina Panthers in September. McDermott is a blue-collar, overachiever who lacks ideal athleticism and strength.
The Giants' medical staff are magicians! Or at least, they are as much as they're incompetent when a player has a set-back...or it might have to do with the player's actual condition.....maybe....

But maybe the fact that the refs missed (or chose not to call) a blatantly illegal low block gave the Giants some moral high ground in clearing this with the league (if indeed they did).
Also, the stated intent of the rules is that opposing teams and the media should not be misled, particularly where "important" players are involved. Giants could have argued that there is no real deception in making the change a day ahead of the game and that Herzlich is "only" a special teams player.
Giants have not announced a roster move as of yet.

I'd like to see a summary at the end of the year of all of the questionable/weird injury updates this year.
