OdellBeckhamJr : 11/29/2015 3:56 am
@AdamSchefter
Missing 2 starters on O-line, Giants changing starters at 3 positions: Geoff Schwartz from RG to LG, John Jerry to RG, Dallas Reynolds to C.

ugh

I hope this works. Honestly, I dont know if Schwartz is the better player. Flowers has struggled. I don't like having Flowers and Schwartz on the left side. Eli better get rid of the ball quickly today.
ugh is right

This turn out to be a nightmare.

No excuses today

GO GMEN
Time for Schwartz to step up

and have himself a damn good game.
Ugh

Need to get out in front early
exciting...
grizz299 : 11/29/2015 7:27 am : link
When other teams would fold under this...we are going to be fine.....Bank it.
Flowers in particular is going to benefit from the bye and have his best game of the year...Jerry is going to have a good game...
And Schwartz for all the pounding he takes here is a warrior who like Pugh is versatile. Reynolds is not a top pro but a top backup.
I bet that three guys playing three different positions and absent there three best players ...have none or a minimum of penalties..playing an away game in a noisy stadium....An Accomplishment.
And they are Giants and they are well coached and they are well motivated.
I don't like this at all. Let's not forget, Schwartz was horrid at LG
Victor in CT : 11/29/2015 7:31 am : link
when they tried to force him there in 2014. Jerry replacing Pugh only weakens 1 position, this move weakens 2.
Why cant Jerry
spike : 11/29/2015 7:49 am : link
play LG?
I'm not a fan of this either
Matt in SGS : 11/29/2015 7:51 am : link
unless the coaches think they have a matchup that they like over on the left side that they can exploit with Flowers and Schwartz and maybe we see them try to run the ball more to that side today.
They must see something.....and they had 2 weeks.
George from PA : 11/29/2015 7:54 am : link
This must have been in the works for awhile....

I do not actually get it.....but i am not paid to get it.
They don't have to play good. Just don't play bad.
Jimmy Googs : 11/29/2015 8:08 am : link
Hopefully the guy covering OBJ will fall down in the first qtr and we can get an early lead and not rely to much on this backup interior line.
At least they had two weeks to practice...
Torrag : 11/29/2015 8:17 am : link
...that should help mitigate the effects of the reshuffle to some extent.

They didn't really have 2 weeks of practice. The players headed out for vacation on Wednesday the 18th and came back this past week. The coaches on the other hand worked this out.
Time for Schwartz to earn his paycheck

seemed to me
fkap : 11/29/2015 8:45 am : link
that Schwartz struggled on the left, but that Jerry wasn't a disaster there on the couple of occasions that he spelled Pugh there, while he routinely was bad on the right.

aside from who plays better where, this changes up the chemistry all along the line, rather than just on the left

I thought there was a small chance that this would happen
Ivan15 : 11/29/2015 8:47 am : link
A pretty drastic move for the Giants.

The whole O-line needs to step up.

Maybe a true West Coast offense day. The Giants may not attempt to run the ball except for check downs. Vereen may get a real workout today.
Actually
Bones : 11/29/2015 8:50 am : link
We're missing 3 starters on the OL. I'm thinking we'll need 30 plus points to win this unless we can run the ball effectively. Nothing is ever easy for this team.

Uh, Bill Walsh once said that the perfect day in his offense was 250 yards passing, 150 yards rushing
I think the Giants know what they're
Big Blue '56 : 11/29/2015 9:12 am : link
doing. Regardless, losing two starters is big
We're just begging
The_Boss : 11/29/2015 9:14 am : link
The Redskins to overload blitz the right side of the OL with Jerry and Newhouse there. Could there be a worse RG/RT duo in the league today?
That is the Giants OL folks, sponsored by
Victor in CT : 11/29/2015 9:18 am : link
Dunkin' Donuts. :-)
I have faith the Giants are doing what is best at this point
AnnapolisMike : 11/29/2015 9:20 am : link
What is best at this point. Not what you really wanted to see for the biggest game of the season...but Washington is not the best team we have faced either.
My

guess is that they want a veteran next to Schwartz. No excuses. Next man up.
really don't like this
micky : 11/29/2015 9:26 am : link
Schwartz was bad at LG when he played there before. This could be disastrous imho
They are going to blitz the shit out of us and keep on coming......
Simms11 : 11/29/2015 9:28 am : link
Im sure Flaherty and McAdoo believe this is the best lineup, but holy crap that right side is troublesome and Schwartz was not playing well at LG last preseason either. This is going to be a much closer game then I originally anticipated, as long as the defense holds up. This might also be a game where specials can make a difference. Ugh!
I think
Enoch : 11/29/2015 9:30 am : link
This is more about Jerry, who they see as a much better RG than he is an LG. They expect the veteran Schwartz to be more flexible.

The scary thing is that thi may be a sign that they expect Pugh's concussion to be a long-term problem. They've previously been OK with Jerry in at LG for a game or two. Are they making this switch because they're expecting it to last longer?

Meant a veteran next to Flowers, especially one who is a starter.
I do not get this move at all
Jay on the Island : 11/29/2015 10:02 am : link
IMO Jerry is a much better LG than RG since he is better in pass pro than run blocking where Schwartz is the opposite.
This is insane

They are going to get Eli killed

This doesn't make sense.
This is
realgiants91 : 11/29/2015 10:09 am : link
the type of game the Giants have always lost in recent years. An important game that is meaningful.
The right side of the OL
Jay on the Island : 11/29/2015 10:10 am : link
has been playing better than expected and now in week 12 against a division opponent they are going to mess with the continuity and break it up? This is bizarre to say the least.
all I can say, and hopefully it doesnt,
micky : 11/29/2015 10:14 am : link
if this game comes down to the ol decisions made on personnel use, Then oh boy....

They could use one next to Schwartz anyway ;-)
I've witnessed

The Giants go down to DC with less and come out with a victory.
Maybe they just wanted
mrvax : 11/29/2015 10:27 am : link
the best guard they have to be next to the rookie. That would explain the Schwartz move. So far, Schwartz has not been worth the $ it took to get him here. I hope this changes today.
My opinion is that after two weeks of practice they are
PatersonPlank : 11/29/2015 10:49 am : link
convinced this is the best option for this one game. Schwartz is a veteran and has played both. I'm guessing Jerry is better at RG, so they think this is a more solid line for today. There has to be a reason to do this.
By the way what is the story on Pugh?
PatersonPlank : 11/29/2015 10:49 am : link
Is he out indefinitely? At least with Weston we know its an ankle sprain and will eventually heal.

The Giants didn't practice last week. The players were off. They only practiced this week.
Agreed, but I'm sure the coaches were reviewing film
PatersonPlank : 11/29/2015 10:52 am : link
and putting together gameplans. Something they saw convinced them to do this, its not random.
This is rare.
robbieballs2003 : 11/29/2015 10:56 am : link
Do we as fans ever really agree on anything? Even those in support of the move are assuming that we have had two weeks to prepare for this or just showing blind faith in our coaching staff amd giving them the benefit of the doubt over actually saying this is a good idea.
They probably want the best "puller" on the left side
PEEJ : 11/29/2015 11:02 am : link
.
We have to be the more physical team up front today....
Simms11 : 11/29/2015 11:03 am : link
We have to win that battle, otherwise it will be a long day, a day like our Oline had in Philly type of day!
This is very weird
Patrick77 : 11/29/2015 11:28 am : link
I don't remember the last time they shuffled the line like this. It must have been a long time coming. Jerry when he is on can be average and not embarrassing. Moving Schwartz I don't get at all. But then again the coaches must know something we don't.
I think this is a big mistake for 2 reasons
Matt M. : 11/29/2015 11:53 am : link
Last year, initially the Giants had Schwartz at LG and he looked terrible. Later in the year, for the brief time he was healthy, he played RG and played much better and seemed more comfortable. Jerry, when forced to play at RG last year looked terrible. This year, he has had to briefly fill in at both OG positions and actually looked decent when at LG. So, why in the world would you shuffle these two?
.
Pat from Inside Football : 11/29/2015 12:25 pm : link
Schwartz is a better run blocker than Jerry. Since they seemed to be more productive to theleft side, that's probably why they made this move. (Schwartz also with the gimpy ankle so they probably don't want to pull him from the right side which also likely factored into the mix.)

If I remembered right, didn't he have troubles when at LG before?

Yes. They put him there to start in 2014 and he was horrid when he was actually on the field. He had NEVER played the left side in his life, always an RT or RG when he actually played.
I'm guessing Jerry is more comfortable at RG
JonC : 11/29/2015 12:46 pm : link
and they trust Geoff to play well next to the rookie. It might be their best healthy configuration at the moment.

Next man up, find a way to win a pivotal game.
