@TomRock_Newsday: Schwartz has a fractured lower leg and is out for the game. And, I dare say, beyond.

it doesn't look good, lets not jump to conclusions. Depends on the fracture.
He was probable at first
illmatic : 11/29/2015 2:08 pm : link
and he was probably going to come back out on the field if they didn't send him back to the locker room. That's kind of comical.

He can come back from a fracture in a month?

Like I said, depends on the fracture.
We know what Schwartz is like with injuries
illmatic : 11/29/2015 2:12 pm : link
He's done.
The injuries this season have been wretched
The_Taxman : 11/29/2015 2:13 pm : link
Hate to use injuries as an excuse but how can't you? Get JPP back, Hankins gets hurt and is out for the season. Get Prince back, DRC gets hurt. Pugh and Richburg, arguably our best OL are both out. Cruz never saw the field Beason barely did. Lost our starting TE even though he's barely average. It's a shit show.

You think Geoff Schwartz is going to really give a shit about getting back on the field? Please..

getting players out of FA who are going to be hurt most of the time after they sign that second contract. IMO.

Right? If that isn't emblematic of our injury situation and medical staff, I don't know what is.
Beason, Schwartz etc.
TMS : 11/29/2015 2:23 pm : link
All the same shit. Sign then one injury after the other. It gets old. Learn MARA.

I agree terrible free agent signing. He won't be missed. Jon Jerry, Geoff Schwartz, Goofball Hart, same difference. They all suck.

But they will all return. The owner has no spine.
yet another FA

who can't stay healthy.

You can't blame a guy for a broken bone.

But after a while, with so many FA's and Draftees who can't stay healthy, you have to wonder, WTF?
with his injury history
Paulie Walnuts : 11/29/2015 3:35 pm : link
it was a bad signing

this is on Reese
for example, see Beason
Is D R C out?

Problem isn't Schwartz per se...
trueblueinpw : 11/29/2015 4:11 pm : link
Can't really be down on the guy for breaking his leg. But there's just no one behind Schwartz. This seems to be the difference between Giants and some (not all) other NFL teams. Every team gets injuries but with us there just seems to a huge drop off from starters to backups.

What a shitty FA signing

We shouldve signed Evan Mathis
He's done as a giant
DavidinBMNY : 11/29/2015 4:41 pm : link
And possibly in the nfl. He won't be back. Better shot Beatty comes back
...
Cornman33 : 11/29/2015 4:44 pm : link
I know it's been said before but Giants need to seriously re-evaluate the whole training/medical staff. In addition to the crazy volume of injuries, which is well documented, it seems like we mismanage injuries at least as much as any other NFL team and maybe more. It's insane and alarming that he went from probable to broken leg, and in a vacuum that's odd but when you put it in the context of most injured team and managing a roster assuming certain players are coming back who never come back, it is very frustrating.

Lets be real, most of our starters aren't very good either.

I've noticed. He keeps saying if things don't change...... blah blah blah. Well Mara? Things haven't changed in 4 years now come on!!!
Giants will have an extra $3m in cap space after they cut him
GloryDayz : 11/29/2015 4:51 pm : link
The guy is not worth a close to $5m cap hit. Average when healthy, almost never healthy.

Giants will have so much money to spent, but sucks that they need like 30 new players
Didn't Schwartz break his leg
BlueClaw : 11/29/2015 4:51 pm : link
with KC?
Correct my poor memory as I am very fucked up right now but didn't he have a bad leg break once before?
Wasn't he out of the league for a long time before jerry signing him?

We have to replace this guy. Unfortunately reese will just go to FA and get another Schwartz exact injury prone mirror image. reese likes the injury prone linemen.
Im curious, did d this guy
5BowlsSoon : 11/29/2015 5:26 pm : link
Ever get injured when playing for KC?
Schwartz like so many
TMS : 11/29/2015 5:53 pm : link
others is looking to retire with benefits, and we made him whole. Good for him he talked a good game. Our front office is the one with their heads up their asses with all these type guys they keep signing.
so
MookGiants : 11/29/2015 5:55 pm : link
he went from probable to return for this game to out for the season. All you can do is laugh at how things are handled by the Giants medical staff.
Sorry for him personally
old man : 11/29/2015 5:58 pm : link
Professionally GOOD for us
A disappointment for us. Maybe he catches on somewhere next year.
God, I was going to post last night...
sb from NYT Forum : 11/29/2015 6:09 pm : link
...after they announced he'd play LG "Queue the inevitable injury." I didn't want to sound like a dick though. But now I don't care.

Just like last year, move him to a position that he's not familiar with and he gets instantly injured.
I really hope
Emil : 11/29/2015 6:12 pm : link
Pugh is going to be ok, otherwise it's back to square one along the OL, with only two of five positions solidified for next year.

He only started 7 games for them. He was a backup before that. The Giants felt those 7 games were worth a big contract. Please disregard that he suffered significant injuries and hadn't started a game since 2010 prior to that.
Did Darkwa get hurt as well?
DavidinBMNY : 11/29/2015 6:23 pm : link
He looked banged up
I wonder
crick n NC : 11/29/2015 7:03 pm : link
if the people on the game thread have a desire to take back the insults they were hurling at Schwartz about his toughness now.
The reaction to the signing was overwhelmingly positive,
shockeyisthebest8056 : 11/29/2015 7:14 pm : link
so it's not like this was a reach on Jerry's part... can't get them all right. Schwartz was garbage (from the preseason on) and I hope I never see him in the starting lineup ever again.

Wake up already and stop defending this moron of a GM. He sucked at Kansas City as well! Came with a history of being hurt which makes him a prime candidate for this empty suit!
He won't be back
David B. : 11/29/2015 7:53 pm : link
nor will Beatty or Beason. Problem with Schwartz was that even healthy (as healthy as he ever was as a Giant -- which may have never been 100%), he wasn't very good regardless. And he cost a lot. It was a signing that didn't work out. Teams have those.
Obviously this front office is
TMS : 11/29/2015 8:20 pm : link
not held accountable for the results of their drafts or FA acquisitions that have resulted in our downward spiral these past 5 years because of lousy talent. Excuses , excuses etc. Maybe they are just over their heads, and should just be replaced before our franchise QB and HC are history.

I guess if you're 100% committed and its not a bad break. I had a bad break on mine and I wasn't 100% for like 4 months dude. Honestly, its been 10 months and I can still "feel" it, hard to explain.

This
Let's look at what this team needs, just on offense...
Doomster : 11/29/2015 9:46 pm : link
RT, RG, possible LG(if concussions become a problem), TE, RB, #2 WR, #3 WR....that's more than half your starters, never mind having reasonable backups.....

Only guys you have signed on defense, worth anything, is Hankins and DRC(but he will be a question mark throughout next season)....Collins is a ? mark....

Think we don't have holes? We will be in worse shape next year, than we were this year.....all that cap space means nothing, if you overspend on your own FA's, and if the guys you sign aren't better than what you let go...
Missing five games will cost Schwartz about $470k of NLTBE incentives.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/30/2015 1:44 am : link
In cap terms, that just about covers the guaranteed portion of his 2016 salary. If he is cut, the Giants will still have to eat his unamortized bonuses, but the total damage is under $2MM. While the signing was unsuccessful, it's not very significant in cap terms.

Geoff Schwartz, John Jerry and Marshall Newhouse are our punishment for picks like James Brewer and Brandon Mosley. A healthy Schwartz is the player Mosley was supposed to become.
