Free Agent 2016

Unfortunately the giants have many more players who contribute who are not signed for next year than anyone else in the NFC East by far.The list includes JPP,Prince,Ayers, McBride,Josh Brown, Jasper Brinkley, Donnell,Randle and Kuhn. The Skins have Cousins and Morris, the Cowboys Clairborne,Mincey and McClain. This will give the Giants cap space but if you look at the players available throughout the league the Giants will be hard pressed to pick up more than they lose .
no offense but who cares about the overall number?
robbieballs2003 : 11/29/2015 5:10 pm : link
Get rid of the majority of these players. JPP and Prince should be kept but at the right price. I would put Josh Brown next on that list. After that does anybody else really matter? I would like to keep Ayers but nobody is going to cry if he isn't resigned.
The Giants are Oprah rich this offseason
Patrick77 : 11/29/2015 5:11 pm : link
They can cut Beason, Shwartz, and Beatty and be even more rich.

They will have the means to build whatever roster they choose - it depends on how smart they are.

I forget the poster's name but he posted the numbers a while back - they are looking at potentially 70+ million of cap room.
But
Hilary : 11/29/2015 5:13 pm : link
The defense without Prince and JPP is hard to think of.Brinkley I think has played well.McBride and Dahl are decent depth if the giants get a real free safety and move Collins to strong safety
Keep
Bernie : 11/29/2015 5:21 pm : link
JPP, Prince, Brown, and Ayers. Dahl and McBride can stay as backups for minimum contracts.

Restructure Schwartz, Beatty & Cruz. If they won't, see ya.

Everyone else: Bye, Bye
I believe they will also

Ask Cruz to take a cut ...

They will have a big chunk of change , do you trust the current admin with this money? 4 straight terrible seasons .
You don't keep Dahl
Patrick77 : 11/29/2015 5:24 pm : link
You sign him once injuries strike. He will be waiting for the call, just like Preston Parker or Hakeem nicks.

Absolutely try to keep the following at a reasonable price:

JPP, Prince, Brinkley, Merriweather

And build a defense with Hankins, DRC, Kennard, Collins.

Maybe Bromley, Owa, Selvie, and Wynn are worth keeping too. There's still at least 10 openings for players to fill the defensive roster and a lot of them would be new starters.

Not since Gettleman left.
What the hell

has JPP done, to say we have to sign him? He is the Beason of DLmen, in the sense that, he just looks good, because he is better than the other scrubs.....we are paying this guy,, 900K per game.....should have saved it for next year's cap....

Problem is there's nobody else out there, unless we make a trade, probably not happening, and so you will end up paying him, but I wouldn't break the bank for him. If there's a new staff, it's always possible that the Giants could go back to a 3-4, and JPP might be a capable LB at the weight he's currently at.

You're presuming the potential FA players on other teams would actually hit the market. Thats often not the case. Sometimes, the only players available arent that good (Baas & Shwartz & good examples). Teams dont let their good players walk that often

He hasn't done anything to warrant bringing him back. At a minimum I would but he is not in a position to demand money. I wouldn't be upset if we let him walk, not in the least.
2/3
old man : 11/29/2015 6:07 pm : link
wont be back;any of the 2/3 that do come back come back with big cuts.
As will Beatty andCruz or be gone.
Unfortunately its another poor FA class especially at OL.

At this point any FA is better than a lot of the current roster.
26 guys are up after this year
The_Boss : 11/29/2015 9:08 pm : link
Most are JAG's. JPP looks like the best option at DE. He's not worth $14 million but maybe he can be had for $10. Prince, if healthy for 16 games isn't worth the Maxwell $$ he's seeking, which is like what? $8 million per? If they compromise, maybe he can be had for $6 million? So then of our $50 million (to be conservative), we still need to fill out the roster, which would be roughly 17 players (assuming 7 spots via draftees) with the remaining $36 million. It sure smells like we're going to be dumpster diving again in FA. Unless we free up considerably more $$, which is always a possibility, we won't get appreciably better in 2016 than we are right now.

Patrick77 : 11/29/2015 9:11 pm : link
17 players averaging out making more than 2 million each isn't exactly dumpster diving. Dumpster diving is the vet min and signing them after cuts or after the first game to limit the cap number to more like half a million.
Some possible OL
realgiants91 : 11/29/2015 9:13 pm : link
Guards Osmele from Baltimore and Brandon Brooks from Houston. Cordy Glenn as G/T and RT Mitchell Schwartz (yes Geoff's brother).

I'd make big plays for Osmele and Glenn. I don't think either franchises can really afford to keep them.

A starting 5 of Flowers, Pugh, Richburg, Osmele, and Glenn sounds pretty good to me. Jerry, Newhouse, Reynolds, and Hart are the backups.

In order to get appreciably better (10 wins/playoffs), and again this is all taking the conservative POV with the financials, we would have to sign maybe 2 premium players in FA after JPP and Prince. (Sadly, this roster is so poor, we probably need 4 proven big ticket signings, but that's not possible for any franchise)
