This team will kick you in the nuts, won't it?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 11/29/2015 5:08 pm
Jesus Christ.
Agreed.
CT Charlie : 11/29/2015 5:10 pm : link
But I'm thinking that for most of today's game, if Eli had had 1 more second of protection he would have had a much easier completion. The absence of Pugh and Richberg was huge.
Same old story since
Route 9 : 11/29/2015 5:10 pm : link
October of 2012
Let's face it, they are banged up
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 11/29/2015 5:10 pm : link
And have next to no talent on defense !

I'm not gonna get angry anymore , they are just not a good team .
Yep Eric and that was my point on
JCin332 : 11/29/2015 5:10 pm : link
the Collins dropped int...think about what has transpired w this team since that play..
Whats new...
GloryDayz : 11/29/2015 5:10 pm : link
But you occasionally you get a run that stays with fans for a life time... thats why we put up with it I guess.

I had faith until the end.

This one hurts.
Yep
M.S. : 11/29/2015 5:10 pm : link
But there's a real easy way to avoid it.

Look at this team realistically, especially with 500 offensive linemen hurt; no pass rush; and a muti-year habit of having zero LBers to cover backs and TEs.

Then your nuts are fully protected!
Well, don't forget...
Kuhn and Friends : 11/29/2015 5:11 pm : link
we were facing the great and mighty Washington Redskins. We should count our blessings to have escaped that venue with our mortal souls, after all.
Its been a heart attack waiting to happen since TC/Eli have been here
shabu : 11/29/2015 5:11 pm : link
Since TC/Eli have been here ( this is not a knock ) this team has always boggled the mind.

1. Losing games to help with division lead ( this was not the first )
2. Beating unbeatable teams.
3. Coming from near 500 seasons to win superbowls.
4. Mental errors abound.

Its nuts and strangely enough losing this game today probably helped their playoff chances more than it hurt..

Backs against wall, Giants always seem to show up.
All sports teams will kick you in the nuts if you let them.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/29/2015 5:12 pm : link
The lesson is: hold onto your nuts... At least until something more important comes along to kick them.
Just a weak performance.

bceagle05 : 11/29/2015 5:13 pm : link
I was beating myself up for allowing this team to fool me again. I'm sure they'll reel me back in before the end of the season, because the Redskins will stumble a bit down the stretch and open a door for us. Just an infuriating afternoon.

This has nothing to do with the dropped INT by Collins
EricJ : 11/29/2015 5:14 pm : link
... this team is what it is regardless of ONE play. Look how we played for the most part this season. This is not a team that has a chance to do anything significant. All it would mean is that we would have still had a game lead after a horrible loss today (if he held onto the INT vs the Pats). Then what? We beat Carolina?

The problem with this team is the defense. It was our biggest problem last year too and here we are still talking about it.

And it still hurts
Emil : 11/29/2015 5:16 pm : link
I think I go through every emotion possible on Sundays. It's like an abusive relationship that I just have to keep coming back for.

I wake up and I'm fired up and excited.
By kickoff I have nervous anticipation.
Anger after the first pick.
Livid after the 2nd.
Hopeful during the drive in the third quarter
Enraged at Reuben Randle two minutes later for another awful route
Dejected after the Skin's FG.
Feeling more positive after the 4th and 16 TD.
Almost running around the house yelling after the OBJ TD catch.
Accepting the inevitable after Washington gets the Giants to burn their last time out.

Now I'm ready for a nap.

Just watch the last 5 games
micky : 11/29/2015 5:17 pm : link
No expectations from them. Too many issues. I see skins getting 3 more wins and Giants 2 honestly.

Hope for more highlites from OBJ rest of way is a positive.
and it's hard to get mad at the defense
gidiefor : Mod : 11/29/2015 5:18 pm : link
they held the Redskins to a score that was less than their season average -

our Offense scored 10 points les than their average -- this game is on the offense -- they were flat and couldn;t overcome the adversity thrown at them

I'm just tired of this team being so incredibly dumb.
Devon : 11/29/2015 5:21 pm : link
They're not good, by any measure, and I've accepted they're going to lose in brutal fashion often and when they do win, it's often going to be ugly, but I'm just flatly tired of watching them constantly being collectively braindead.

Whatever Coughlin is selling on that front (and yes, the finger dares to point back at him), none of these guys are buying it. Every week, even when they win, they do some of the stupidest crap you'll see around the league.
Benn a fan since before there were Super Bowls
arniefez : 11/29/2015 5:21 pm : link
probably haven't missed more than 10 games in all those years. Have seen it all. 5 championship game wins. 4 Super Bowl wins. 81, 84, 85 before the first Super Bowl were great years. After 1990 LT & Phil's last playoff win in 93. The 2000 home playoff games. Those years made all the other years worth it. But for the most part the Giants have been average or worse way more often than they've been good.
We create false expectations as fans. We know they are not
RDJR : 11/29/2015 5:25 pm : link
a good team and haven't been in years, but we go back to the well. That's what makes us fans. The poor teams in the division have made us "relevant", but TC even knows this group is wanting. He has hedged his bets all season with this team. His disappointment in the post game presser was obvious, but it's almost become cliche at this point. In fact, he pointed out to one writer that he always asks the same question when we lose a game like this. This has become commonplace so I've vowed to start avoiding the kick to the nuts by lowering my expectations. I don't see us beating the Jets next week.
How many times,
Doomster : 11/29/2015 5:27 pm : link
have we seen Coughlin teams not show up for games?

We were given a gift on Thanksgiving, and we didn't accept it....

Two weeks to prepare, and this was the shit show they gave us....

Now we don't control our own destiny. We have to rely on other teams to let us back door into the playoffs.....

Too many times this year, this offense has not shown up.....yes, there are backups in the OL......but it put up two scores in the final quarter.....3 int's, one wasn't Eli's fault, the other two were....but Randle, just doesn't fight for balls.....

Receivers just weren't getting open or getting separation.....

We have no run game.....

We didn't intercept a pass, although DRC certainly not only gave up an int, but an easy 7 points also....when that happened, you kinda had a feelin'.....

5-6....still in first.....

Hope they show up next week....

Just hard to believe, that this team knew the importance of this game, and did not show up....

.....
Micko : 11/29/2015 5:27 pm : link
Subtract 3 starting o-lineman (really 4) and you've got 2014 all over again. We were f-ed right from the start today.
I've had low expectations

since the early 60's. The game has changed dramatically except for one component. You control the game at the line of scrimmage. Our O and D lines are third rate at best. Despite that we are in all these games. I credit the coaching staff and Eli who when finished will be the greatest Giant of all time.

Unfortunately we are saddled with a third rate GM and team of talent evaluators. It really is an easy fix if Johnny Boy was paying attention.
When Jenkins, JPP, and Prince all come out immediately after the game
Tom in NY : 11/29/2015 5:32 pm : link
and state that "they (the Redskins) wanted it more" and/or "we just came out flat" then I have to ask those players, how is that possible?

They haven't played in two weeks, and have the division handed to them on a platter, and can't muster the enthusiasm to take advantage of it?

The 2012 game in Washington late in the season led to the end of the Giants playoff chances for 3 seasons...was kind of hoping today's game would have started the road back.

It's a very mediocre team right now
Simms11 : 11/29/2015 5:33 pm : link
with no margin for error. Not very resilient either. Looked to be rusty in first half, especially on offense. With all that said, this team has not come through in over three years now. 5 more games for this team to save the Head coach and staff IMO.

well maybe someone needs to step up and let one (Reese) or the other (TC) go....this is really not working now..what exactly have we been doing since 2011?

Out on the field ... Should have closed Brady out .. Collins drops an easy INT.

Our best CB drops a pick 6, this game is totally different if DRC takes it to the house .

Really difficult to see the dumb play week in and out, but it's a big reason my expectations for this team remain low. Injuries, holes, and dumb add up to 8-8.

John, what's your expectation for the team if they go 8-8 and don't win the division?
8-8 and WIN the division?
Hard to say
JonC : 11/29/2015 6:19 pm : link
The elephant in the room will be is Mara ready to pull the trigger, and will they clean house meaning Reese too. 8-8 and no playoffs with a number of ugly losses doesn't help their cause, but with a healthy team and another offseason infusing talent with a pile of cap space could bring the leap everyone wants to realize.

Winning a division crown and getting a playoff experience can't hurt a young team that's struggling with consistency and learning how to finish games in the NFL. But, I wonder when Mara finally has had enough and decides change is the right decision.

Lack of talent
BlueClaw : 11/29/2015 6:49 pm : link
It was obvious going into this season we were lacking anything resembling a good pass rusher after JPP blew off his hand. Our defense scares no one. Our defense line/pass rush sucks. DRC is playing well but missed a nice pick 6 today. Too many injuries. Every team has them but we have had more than our share. Beatty, Cruz, Hankins, 5 safeties on IR. Rookie LT....completely shit RT. Our #2WR rueben randle is barely a #4 or 5th wide receiver as far as his contribution.
Reese has to go out and get some players with all the cap space we will have. I really think this all comes down to whether reese can deliver some players to TC and Eli. Eli's time is running out. It's all on reese he has to get some impact players. We have to get a pass rusher another WR becuae god knows what cruz can bring. Oline has to be repaired, we have to find a running game.
I never expected much from this team but as shitty as the NFC east is it would be nice to win the division and make the playoffs. Even if we loze in the playoffs it would be something to root for. This simply isn't even a playoff worthy team. Only because everyone around us sucks we don't look as bad but this is one team seriously lacking talent and that is on our GM. Reese has to hit it out of the park in FA and get us some help fast. Needs to draft better in the later rounds too. We could use so much. This is pretty depressing the situation we are in. We just have so many holes to fill and our GM sucks.

I agree. I was watching in the 60 and 70's and this game has changed but it is still won in the trenches oline and d line is a must have to win a super bowl. We have neither.
Also Eli and TC deserve Kudo's. They have done their best with the crap around them. Eli stepping up in the pocket today was awesome. The man has balls to trust his shitty oline. It just goes to show how great his awareness and pocket presence is. And yeah our GM sucks. Reese better do something in FA and go out and get us some players. Eli's time is running out.

pjcas18 : 11/29/2015 7:04 pm : link
might be the best WR I've ever seen, certainly the best in a Giants uniform, but week in week out with the current situation of the D and running game, the Giants live and die with Eli (maybe regardless of the other two even).

Even though two of the three picks were not necessarily his fault, it was too tough to overcome the deficit they caused with the Giants D not able to force any TO's from WAS.

this is what Giants fans need to get used to, live with Eli, die with Eli.

PJ they scored 0 points off the TO's..
JCin332 : 11/29/2015 8:30 pm : link

The division is so bad, I still want to be optimistic. But, going in to today, I didn't think about tie breakers. I just said, the worst we can be is tied. Now, they have to play 1 game better than Washington over the next 5 and 1 of those wins will likely need to be in Week 17.
