Anyone have any answers?
This wasn't a trap game. This was the most important game this team has played this late in the season in three years. That effort was pathetic. Shame on the entire franchise.
Still mumbling to myself, "I'm tired of this sh*t" this morning.
Ughhhhhh.....
Get killed by the skins? They lost by 6
against Washington, we were without our starting center, we are coming off a bye and yes a bit live action rusty, on the road, our stating right guard goes down leaving us with a basically all-back up o-line, we're on the road, Washington is a tough team inside the hashmarks while we are better outside the hashmarks with our current injury situation, they had much more motivation to come out flying.
Pretty sure there were threads on here saying they hoped the Giants lost their final 2 games because the Giants were just going to get killed in the playoffs anyway...
In 11 against the Redskins Eli threw 3 picks including 1 in the endzone...

This. I feel like people aren't acknowledging how banged up the Pats were when we played them. They are not some unbeatable juggernaut when the OL is in shambles and Brady's best weapons are playing hurt or out. Especially when they play Eli and TC
it's not just the O either. Spags had a horrible plan vs. the 49ers and did the same thing vs. Cousins.
the only times the Skins looked uncomfortable were the series he got aggressive. Both run blitzing + pass blitzing. Cousins does not handle pressure well but he will pick you apart if you let him sit in the pocket
same thing happened vs. Kap. We made Kap look awesome when he SUCKED vs. everyone else (and eventually got benched for Gabbert). everyone was playing man vs. the 49ers and Kap couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. we dropped into a soft zone and he destroyed us.
i'm a huge Spags guy but he needs to grow a sac and put some pressure on the offense.
Still I was pretty pissed. No sympathy from my wife though, she yelled at me and said "it's a football game get over it!" Almost caused an argument... lol [cry]
Thanks Filth for making me throw up in my mouth a lil bit. Lil bit.
I used to get so mad after a Giants loss. I wouldn't be able to think of anything else well into the next day. Now, five minutes after a game is over, it's the furthest thing from my mind. And that's because I just don't care anywhere near as much as I used to.
Not that long ago, the teams that were built the best were the best. And they would stay that way at least for several years. Now, to be among the "best" often means winning just enough regular season games to qualify for the postseason and then be relatively healthier than the other teams in the postseason and get the right breaks and bounces. So you have teams that look like complete crap for stretches in October or November going on to deep postseason runs in January (Giants included). And then the very next year, several of those "great" teams from the previous year look mediocre or worse.
It doesn't really excite me the way the league used to.
I like the fact that we were at least able to score some points in the 4th quarter and were not shut out. I saw that as a positive. In years past when the team really sucked we would have been shut out.
I still think we are on the upswing. Big game coming up this week against the Jets. Lets see how we respond.
I am a huge Coughlin fan, but even the Super Bowl teams have been inconsistent. They seem to rise or lowers themselves to the talent of their opponent every year. I don't know how you fix it this year and I don't know if Coughlin can. Hate to say that.
Perhaps the message is not sinking in, perhaps they need a change in scheme and philosophy?! Coughlin can't coach forever and I think his time might be coming to and end if he can't get his team to win at least 3 or 4 more games to get in. Mara will have a very diificult decision to make, but it might just be that time.
If you do not fire Coughlin after not making the playoffs you are giving the perception that being mediocre is OK..
3) this team is soft and they lack balls. They aren't hungry.
This is a team that is totally fucked from top to bottom. A GM that assembles an injury prone and not very talented roster. Players don't really care when Washington smacks them in the mouth. Coaches didn't have this team ready to play. DRC goes out and then next offensive play is soooo obvious they would throw it deep against the scrub Reese has as his back up. But we totally didn't see it coming.
McAdoo's offense is really uninspiring. We are a mess. I mean, I've used this before but to quote Ed Harris (Gene Cernan in Apollo 13 "What on the spacecraft is good?" On this team, we have a QB and a WR.
Pretty much how I feel at this juncture
Injuries + match-ups - 40% of OL missing and Skins have underrated DL?

Consistency is a talent in itself. If everyone were consistent at what they do, you would never be able to separate the good from the bad.
Reuben Randle has great talent. He may have a good game here and there. The reason he isn't consistent is because he isn't good enough to do that. Newhouse can have a good game here or there (as he has this season), but he's a middling player who's bounced around the NFL before coming to the Giants for a reason. It is why certain players are stars in the league and others are not. Those stars are able to be good 8 out of 10 times, while the others may only be able to give it to you 4 out of 10.
When you have too many of those kind of middling players on your roster, you will always be subject to this level of volatility. This is where the issue of the teams lack of high quality talent comes in.

Totally agree!
I was watching the Sunday night game and came away thinking, wow these two teams are loaded! Especially compared to the Giants. Sure Brady is losing targets like crazy, but even Scott Chandler would start at TE and Brandon LaFell would start at #2 WR for the Giants. Both defenses were stocked with talent, and none of the Giants RBs would start for either team.
The Giants better spend some money this offseason cause Denver, New England, Cincy, Carolina, Minnesota, Green Bay, and Arizona are not going to get bad anytime soon. The class of both conferences so much more talented than the Giants it's scary. Starting to agree with those who say we are really a 6-10 team if not for a elite QB and WR.
Both of you are at a loss?
Thats depressing.
And Atlanta, they got beat by a Julio Jones prayer.
You have a Skins team that just had their asses handed to them the week before. Sounds like Gruden spent last week telling them they were soft as tissue paper and that in the first meeting the Giants bitch slapped them...so lets say the Skins were properly motivated.
You have the Giants coming of a one point loss but hearing how close it was and that they have the Pats number-ya got to be pretty good to almost beat the Pats. This roles into a bye week where job one is to rest and heal.
Then you have Thanksgiving day where the Giants are basically given an early Christmas present by the NFCE and all of the media is saying that they are a sure thing to win the div. And... your facing the Skins who you beat something like 5 in a row.
Wa-lah
Both of you are at a loss?
That's great Randy, but you weren't claiming parity last week when you were pretty convinced we'd beat the Skins.
It was 20-0 in the 4th quarter.
Watching them play, I didn't think they were a Superbowl team, just too many injuries, too many holes. They just lost to Osweiler. Malcolm Butler was getting cooked by Sanders.
Pats are better than the Giants and Skins but not by a whole lot.
Skins won the TO battle and got some good calls by the refs. In this league, thats enough to turn the tide.
There in a nutshell is the problem.
The team is poorly constructed and its players are a poor fit for what coaches prefer and NEED as opposed to want.
That being said, I have more faith in Coughlin doing his job then I do anyone in the front office doing theirs (maybe Abrams is the exception to this).
It is also something that coaches have little control over. Indeed, any time you hear a coach or players say 'we aren't taking these guys lightly' they probably already have. and it happens to everybody. Remember back in '88 when all the Giants had to do the final week of the schedule to make the playoffs was beat a mediocre Jets team that had alraedy been eliminated from the playoffs, but they were only able to finally take the lead with 2-3 minutes to play and then LT and that great D let the Jets slice and dice them in the final two minutes to a game-winning score with 37 seconds left. Sound familiar.
I can guarantee you that the 53 Giants yesterday (well actually 46) were playing just as hard as they did against the Patriots. In fact, Tony in Tampa probably nailed it best in that you had the Giants coming off an emotional hard-fought game against the Patriots in which for all intents and purposes the Giants beat the best team in the league everywhere but on the scoreboard - and then listened for two weeks to everyone who said that the Giants could play with anyone and would be a team nobody wanted to play in the playoffs - while the Redskins festered all last week following an embarrassing loss. In many ways it was the perfect storm for the Giants.
And when you come out flat as the Giants did all you can do is keep battling as best as you can hoping that a some point the 'mo' changes. Certainly, we've seen enough games over the years where one team completely dominates the 1st half and then the opposite happens after the break. In this one it just didn't happen early enough. The irony of this game, though, ultimately could be that its an indication not of how bad a team the Giants are, but just maybe how close they are to being a reasonably competitive group in that they could go on the road and play a stinker for almost 45 minutes, but still come within a play or two (or 60-90 seconds) of pulling it out. Time will tell.
