Saw him running across the line to make tackles. More than I can say for most the Giants out there. I was a huge critic of JPP this off season, but I'd say he is going 100% right now and that's worth a lot.
but he's not a $15M per season talent right now, no.
Question is, might this be his ceiling? Asking for opinions, not making a premature assessment..
It might but I think with a full offseason to regain conditioning, strength, refine technique he can be better. The question is how much and how much will his camp compromise in order to re-sign.
I was wrong regarding what they'd pay him in 2015, so ...
He's earned about $2.15m so far. He's making $215,000/game. Doesn't seem he'll get the "80% of all defensive plays" bonus or the sack bonus worth $5.5m together.
There is really no point to throw around the $15mm per season figure
I'd have expected a gradual increase in impact, but it's been the opposite. opposition probably has a lot to do with it, but he hasn't done anything in the last 2 games to warrant excitement.
IF he comes down to reality with his demands, I'd re-sign him, but he isn't anything resembling a 10 mil a year player (and that was far lower than what he saw himself at on July 3rd).
NYG was willing to construct a contract that would have paid him in that ballpark on a prorated basis, wasn't it built to max out around $8.7M for 8 games? Sorry if that's incorrect, I'm doing a lot of juggling this season with work.
Hard to believe a gjuy who was invisible yester, had no tackles or assists, the previous game, is somehow earning his money....
Like I said before, he is like the ghost of Beason....beason comes here, plays against a string of backup qb's, and looks great when you compare him to the like so of JW and Herz....
Must be the same with JPP.....he does nothing, but he does look good out there with pressures, when you compare him to the other studs in the defensive line....
do we really have any idea of whether he's on pace to reach all his incentives?
if he is on pace, they were really low level incentives, as he really hasn't accomplished much. Been active for each game. played a decent percentage of plays. that's about it.
he isn't ready to use his hand yet. he avoids "mixing it up" unless he absolutely has to. i think he's in a lot of pain.
realistically u aren't going to beat trent williams in that condition

yes we do.
he is guaranteed 1.5mm
He can earn another 1.5mm by being active 6 games which he should make
He has been earning between 200k and 250k a week by being in 75->80% of the snaps
he hasn't gotten any sacks that pay 50k per and he is unlikely to hit the the 7.5 sack bonus which pays 860k not the 10.5 sack bonus which will make the contract worth the full prorated tender amount of 15.5mil Link - ( New Window )

He is not going to earn 7.385 million.
For him to get paid the full amount he will need to get 10.5 sacks. Thats not gonna happen.
Not that you will read and comprehend this and stop posting incorrect figures in the future
He's relearning how to play football in a different way. He has to get rid of old habits and learn new ones. Sometimes for an amputee its difficult to relearn even the simplest of tasks.
I can see a scenario next year where the Giants and JPP agree to a reasonable contract with opt outs for JPP should he prove that he is returning to his old form.
thanks.
I hadn't seen the incentive/salary breakdown. Basically, as long as he's able to play, he's going to get 7 + mil. if he gets a bunch of sacks, he gets another mil. if he gets a lot of sacks, he'll double his payday.
7 mil looks likely, unless he gets injured and/or is put on inactive. the extra mil for sacks a maybe. the bonus for 10 sacks, not so likely.
That seems like a fair, but generous deal. fair, because if he plays he gets paid most of his per game amount of the franchise tag. generous, because it really doesn't make him do anything but play well enough to stay on the active list. it does protect the team in case he washes out and can't play.
against the Patriots, but the Patriots had a penalty that and the Giants elected to take the penalty. Which probably pissed JPP off pretty good. I was too miserable during the Washington game to focus on him.
thanks.

No, you are not reading that right
If he is able to play every game and get 70+ % of the snaps he will earn roughly 4.4 - 5.0 million
*1.5mil guaranteed off the bat
*1.5mil for playing in 6 games
*200k a game for getting 75% of the snaps of 250k a game for 80% or of the snaps for a total of 1.4-1.75mil
And he gets 50k per sack
He will not hit the sack totals required to bring the contract value over 7 mil
Was there something better out there to improve the team?
In his first game back he had an impact. He was good in game 2.
Not so good yesterday vs a guy he usually dominates.
I don't know how anybody could be down on JPP back on the team. He's helping and hopefully he gets better playing with the club.
With that said, as of now, he is not an elite pass rusher, but he should be able to generate some more production as the season rolls along.
JPP, even at a fraction of his old self, is a very welcome addition on this talent-deprived DL.
We need it to be 3rd and 16 because JPP unloaded on a quarterback on 2nd down.
Ayers is finished in blue imo. 30 years old, often injured, low production.

you want to see 15M per season dominance, look what JJ Watt has done in HOU since they were embarrassed by MIA.
last 4 games: 7.5 sacks, 20 tackles, 3 for a loss (not counting sacks).
all wins and his team hasn't allowed more than 17 points in any of the 4 games.
if you want to get paid like a star you need to have an impact like one IMO.

It's exactly what he's making this year, pro-rated, if he reaches the incentives.

How much would the Giants risk?

Ayers was solid yesterday vs the pass.

Because JPP was drawing double teams
