It's 1000% a talent problem.

Britt in VA : 12/20/2015 2:20 pm
Beckham drops a TD.

DRC Drops another Pick 6.

Jennings fumbles away a promising drive.

If they fire Coughlin, it's a BIG FUCKING MISTAKE.

It's not clock management. It's a failure of the players to execute and that is on them and Jerry Reese

That is actually not Reese's job at all. I guess it is his job to pick the right coaches who are supposed to make these players execute though.

That's coaching.

I don't follow. Do you think Coughlin should always use timeouts since you can't carry them over?

Since the Jennings fumble the panthers have skull fucked the Giants without mercy. So how do the timeouts change that?

There was no reason to rush that 3rd and 1. They had the option to use a TO there and get a much higher percentage play called. They chose not to. That's a poor coaching decision.

Get that first down and it's likely still a 7 pt game at worst.
It's not all talent
Rflairr : 12/20/2015 2:43 pm : link
This has been a weakass gameplan, yet again. And terrible coaching decisions. They've yet to even try to attack guys like Tillman or Finnegan in coverage. Despite the OL doing a great job. They keep trying to dink and donk to the strength of the Panthers defense.

And more dumb coaching decisions. Punting from the 40 on 4th and 1?

Today, yes, you're right, they're not making plays. However, it's not like the plays not being made are by a scrub WR and a scrub CB. It's Odell Beckham Jr. and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Beckham dropped the potential game winner against the Patriots. He dropped a TD at the end of the first half against the Jets.

DRC droppped a pick 6 against the Redskins.

3 of our last four losses, those two failed to make plays.

They HAVE to make plays. Yes, THEY are talented, but we need our BEST players to make plays when the rest of our team sucks.

You can't guarantee things happen they way you want them to if you call a timeout just because things didn't work out in reality.

What did happen so the Giants have folded since the Jennings fumble. At this point they need to regroup and find where Panthers stomped their dicks into the ground, pick them up and play football.

I do think they work as a team.

I think the WHOLE organization does.

But just like I won't blame Jerry Reese for coaching decisions, I won't blame Coughlin for personnel decisions.

Coaches coach, and GM's stock the team. Put the blame where it belongs.

Injuries play a part, too.

He is the general manager. His primary responsibility is to over see talent acquisition. Talent means being able to execute. This teams has failed to execute this year on a routine basis. When the plays are there, and they are not made, it's not a coaching problem

Yep. Do we really have people here who didn't think Spags had a hand in getting Dahl here? There's a reason the team won't take him out even though he sucks. Literally anything would be an improvement over Dahl in this game.

Haha, Tom Coughlin picks that talent? Then what is Jerry Reese? A puppet?

He has input on who plays. The curious decisions to play Kuhn until the decision is taken out of his hands (injuries). It's actually a pattern that was a big reason why our OL deteriorated. A new guy was likely never going to supplant O'Hara, Diehl, or Snee.

I'm not saying that they definitely would have gotten the first down. But, they had the ability, and chose not to, take a timeout and make sure they called the best possible play to make the first down.

Not doing so is a poor coaching decision whether or not the play was executed.

Apparently Reese does... I keep hearing how Coughlin has a control and Reese isn't allowed to fire him. So I guess we already have a stooge, can't be hard to find another one.
Britt, I am glad you started this thread..
EricJ : 12/20/2015 2:53 pm : link
because I was just about to start one too.

I am looking at this team and other than OBJ and Eli, we may have the worst roster in the league. If not the worst, very close to it.

If anything, I think Coughlin has gotten a lot out of this shit pile collection of players. Has Coughlin made some mistakes? Absolutely and I have been right there with those on the Coughlin firing squad at times. However, when you step back and look at it, the talent simply is not there.

We are also not going to be able to fix this in one season. I also do not have any faith that Reese and his team know what they are doing at this point.

Coughlin was almost fired. Reese will get the chance to hire his own guy.

BrettNYG10 : 12/20/2015 2:59 pm : link
I've struggled to see evidence of a well coached team this year - today or most of the season. There's a repeated lack of discipline. And TC, late in the half and game, has repeatedly made decisions that tilt probabilities against us.

Trust me, I'm much more of a big picture guy than you are. This is not about a personal victory over you, the fact that you think that reflects on yourself, pal. I'll stick to logic, since that pisses you off so much. What's so "big picture" about bringing back a 70 year old coach whose track record involves missed the playoffs every single season after 2011, who has made curious decisions about the depth chart and not hiring the correct coordinators?
David
Patrick77 : 12/20/2015 3:02 pm : link
It is mind-blowing to me that we as fans think we know these things. If that is true and the common fan knows Coughlin was almost fired and Reese has no real authority no wonder shits like Moore would do whatever the fuck they want.

I can't imagine any organization working where everyone inside and outside knows the top dog has no real power and the second in charge was almost fired recently but the general manager wasn't allowed to.
