“He deals with it a lot. For some reason, everybody goes after him with gay slurs. He’s a different kind of dude. He has the hairdo out, he’s not the big muscular kind of dude. The ladies all love him. He’s a star. I wonder why people are going in that direction. It blows my mind. I told him he can’t let stuff that people say get to you,” Irvin said. |
can we confirm if this is the case?
can we confirm if this is the case?
LOL
Haha
And on and on an on...
sad really.
if I were Beckham I'd do the same thing just to show these people the truth.

Grain of salt of course.
It doesn't make what Beckham did okay, but I don't sympathize with the instigator either. We as a country understand adequate provocation so much that we are willing to mitigate murder. I don't see why football fans can't harbor two separate opinions with a shot in the middle of the game.
theres things in life u just dont do and the bat in the face is one of them. f#ck football at that point

This makes soooooo much sense, I'm struggling with the fact that people don't understand it. Nobody's giving OBJ a pass - but he was driven to that point, repeatedly. Whether it fits the narrative or not, his provocation does count for something.

Do you really think anyone was going to hit him with that bat? If that happened, you would be talking about a lifetime suspension from the NFL and a visit from law enforcement. The Panthers had that bat for a motivational prop and went overboard with their stupidity by pointing it at him. Sometimes you have to realize that NFL players are young, emotional and dumb.
Yes because the Giants have never had bad characters on their team...dear lord stop with the hlier than thou crap, the Giants have been hiring criminals and drug addicts for a long long time...
You forget Michael Boley signed with the Giants after beating his wife?
But honestly, these guys can often be heard dropping N bombs at each other and saying a lot of trash to each other constantly. The gay slurs shouldn't bother beckham whether he is gay or not.
If beckham really wanted to turn the tables and to get into their heads he would start hitting on players between plays... Now that would be hilarious.
I'm sure only the poor, downtrodden players (who are most likely millionaires if not 100-thousanaires) are the only ones taunt poor upper-middle/upper-class beckham. I bet my house on it.
And on and on an on...
On the field? During a game? I never remember hearing of another player having to deal with anything like what OBJ is dealing with.
Was it all talk? Perhaps. But I understand how it could get to Odell. Odell has to be better than what he was on Sunday, but everyone has a breaking point.
The homophobic slurs are a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.
sad really.

Even for some it wouldn't be enough. They'd point to Bruce Jenner.
So, BBI is intolerant when it comes to shit like using gay slurs, racism, etc., except when it's directed at one our own? Then it should be not only tolerated but handled with thicker skin? Ok, got it. It's Beckhams fault. I hope all you fools remember this when the trolls come out on this site and litter it with their filth. It's all good, after all. Just deal with it and have some thick skin!
Doesn't make it ok, but I understand it. This wasn't unprovoked like Suh stomping on someone's head.
bother O'Dell is proof that he's not gay, I would think. Doesn't really matter and shouldn't. This is the NFL, players smell bad, say nasty things about your mom and make fun of your haircut. You retaliate by being the best WR in the league. That didn't happen Sunday. Maybe it will next time.
Panthers came in targeting OBJ and walked out undefeated. Brilliant strategy. Point Rivera. Let's hope Beckham grows up in a hurry because he's gonna see the same thing every week until he proves it doesn't affect his play anymore.
Let it go folks you re over analyzing. He had a bad moment it s over.
Kaepernick got penatlies for it, IIRC.
A black man using "nigga" is absolutely not the same thing as straight men throwing around gay slurs to insult and trash talk though,

anyone been penalized for using the N-word? Wasn't that rule passed?

My point was more, if they make using the N-word a penalty why can't "faggot" be included in that? Why is the N-word so powerful but calling Patrick Chung a "Chink" or a suspected gay player "faggot" any different? I mean yeah I guess you need to draw a line somewhere but not sure why the N-Word is the only "really bad" word.

Haha Good point.
It is NOT Odell's job to suss out the intent of someone threatening him while holding a baseball bat, especially after alleged threats of bodily harm to end his career. I'm having a hard time getting around the fact that the circumstances show a pretty clear textbook case of Assault when the practice squad player gets up on his face with a weapon.
They can go fuck their pre game ritual and the douche bags it's supposed to represent. I remember that punter swinging an axe in the locker room when Jack Del Rio took over. That was a motivational tool / should that be allowed on the field? What exactly is the motivation with a bat? Let's break some kneecaps? Lets fuck ourselves with the fat end? What? I just don't get it.
Next Knicks game I go to I'll be expecting Carmelo to come out of the locker room swinging a hockey skate over his head to LL Cool J's Classic "Mama Said Knock You Put" for good fortune.

Is using the n-word a penalty?
I haven't heard that before

Yeah, I don't think that's what Brett said exactly...
Cursing at the team is now a 15 yard penalty in high school
Ignore them. They'll eventually stop.
I've always wondered what the NFL does with the cut out mic'd up bits. You just know some of those guys are saying absolutely putrid shit that we never hear.
Either way letting gay slurs bother him makes him a pussy. Letting a guy with a baseball threatening to end your career bother him, that's quite a bit more reasonable. Still not condoning what beckham did.
I highly doubt they have the NBA in mind in their actions, but I am suprised they havent come out with a statement against using gay slurs
There's all sorts of BS flying around before games. The bats and what OBJ has been getting went to far, rivera/norman/finnegan/bat guy targeted OBJ.
Hey he did fight back so as messed up as it all was and is I am glad he stuck up for himself. He just could have done it a LOT smarter.
Jackie Robinson.
and others.
OBJ needs to be the Jackie Robinson and work it to his advantage like all the greats do.
I want OBJ to get the CB's to get flagged.
Just play the game and kick ass and just tear it up out there,,,,this is football and it's a rough game, deal with it.
I think OBJ will learn from this. He isn't a stupid kid, emotional yes and he let his emotions get the best of him. Now he needs to turn those emotions into positives and just kick ass.
He's going to be a beast if he gets it all together and gets his game right.

Nicely stated.
,,,,you don't see two dudes on Wallstreet swinging on each other or the Guy in the neck fart cubicle throwing punches, ....sports get a pass. Fights in baseball, football, basketball and nightly in the NHL.

i think it DOES make what Beckham did OK Paul. they waved a f#cking baseball bat in his face. all bets are off at that point and anything u get u deserve.

You're still missing the point. No one has ever said the Panthers were going to kneecap him with the bat.
The verbal threat of ending his career with the bat as a prop most likely put him on the defensive since he knows that the Panthers DBs have been known to play it dirty on the field whether its Finnegan taking cheapshots (like last season) or Norman with his admitted attempt at eye gouging. If they want to hurt him, they'll take cheapshots against him on the field, which we saw from the get go with that body slam and several other late hits that some of the posters, who were at the game have mentioned.
He fucked up by taking it way too far, but if you are going to say that he shouldn't have been on the defensive, you are naive as shit.
Fuck this team. What a nightmare.
It's Beckham. It's the Giants. It's gonna blow over eventually and then when the time comes we will have something else to worry about with Beckham--be it injury or contract demands or some other bullshit. For now worry not. This will all blow over once the media and talkies get bored with this subject.
Oh I forgot, we have never seen a player lose his shit on the football field due to excessive taunting and ribbing. RIGHT....
Until someone body slams you and throws some late elbows and shit...words definitely don't hurt.
Ignore them. They'll eventually stop.
I'm not sure that it'll ever stop. As these guys are all competitors, his opponents will always try to figure out a way or even try old ways to fuck his mind up.
But as you said, it's to Odell's own benefits to learn to ignore it, no matter if it ever stops. Ignore that and dominate them to show them that he just made them his bitches.
These guys face extinction every week! Every game. Every single time these WRs step on to the field the odds are some maniac wants to all but kill them. Most of the shit we don't hear about. Most of time shit stays somewhat calm or quiet but it's just like the dark city streets or back alleys--you might not see it, but it's out there.
BEckham needs to calm the fuck down and focus on two things: Helping his team win games and surviving the NFL battlefield.
Cmon guys...don't act like BEckham is the only WR to receive threats or feel threatened. It's going on all the time. We just don't know about it.
theres things in life u just dont do and the bat in the face is one of them. f#ck football at that point
I agree, what was Beckham supposed to do wait until he gets hit with a bat before he responds
