WR Odell Beckham Jr

January 4, 2016

Q: Did you sense this meeting was going to be your last meeting with Coach Coughlin?

A: We have no idea. Just kind of got to wait and see. He said he’s got a meeting with the owners and I guess we’ll see soon.

Q: Was it a difficult meeting?

A: It was quick, it was a quick meeting. We don’t know I guess.

Q: What did you sense from him?

A: I already said we don’t know really.

Q: What’s your experience been like working with Coach Coughlin?

A: It’s been great since the day I met him. Initially a younger player would immaturely think Coach is always on you. He’s always on you, he’s always you…why is he always on you? Initially I thought it’s because he wanted to be. It was growing up, maturing, and learning that it was because he knew what was in you, he wanted to bring the best out. And he was going to do everything that he could to do that. Along the journey, it’s been great with Coach as far as growing and learning each other and teaching me things, just how to be a man.

Q: How much do you want that to continue?

A: I love Coach, I love Coach Coughlin. He’s always going to be my coach. The decision is not really on me. Like I said, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Q: What about Coach McAdoo, what do you think of him in terms of his leadership and what’s he been like to work with?

A: He’s been great. Also a guy who’s taught me a lot of things. Having the experience and just being able to teach and we all have learned and grown to know each other throughout this time. It’s been a lot of fun. Like I said, we don’t know what’s going to happen.

Q: What’s been the most frustrating part of the season for this team, especially considering how many games went down to the wire that you lost?

A: I just think that’s probably it. Those are the tough ones. Those are what make you and kind of help build your character. And being able to go through tough losses like that and know that you could have won potentially a lot of those games and just didn’t get them done. It’s just unfortunate.

Q: How tough is a day like today? You guys knew you weren’t going to make the playoffs but knowing now that it’s officially over.

A: It’s a bit of both. It’s just been one of those seasons where we’ve wanted a lot of things to go our way and they didn’t go our way. Being able for it to come to an end, you can kind of just at peace and not quite yet, but eventually turn the page and start a new chapter.

Q: As a young player who is trying to formulate a career, how difficult would it be to suddenly change systems with a new coaching staff?

A: It would be difficult. It’s something that you’re used to—you come in here every day it’s the same people. It would take time to readjust.

Q: What do you do in the offseason? What do you concentrate on? What are you looking at to get better?

A: Everything. This offseason I just plan on getting bigger, stronger, faster. Maybe run a little track. I really just plan on being able to come back and compete at my best next year honestly.

Q: Does it mean anything to you to break Randy Moss’ record for the first two years in the league?

A: Until yesterday, I honestly didn’t know that that record was broken. To be in company with Randy Moss, I can’t ask for much more. He’s a guy that I looked up to all my life…probably have all his jerseys. To be able to do some of the things that I’ve done the past two years with this team, it’s been very special.

Q: Let’s say if the Giants were to look at Ben McAdoo as the possible candidate, what do you think he would bring to the table? Would he be a good replacement for Coughlin in your eyes?

A: I’m not really the one who makes the decision on the coaching change. I know that I’ve definitely our time with Coach Coughlin and McAdoo. Like I said, we kind of have to wait and see what’s going to happen with that.

Q: What do you think it is about this offense that’s a good fit for you?

A: Towards the end of the year, we kind of just did a good job of moving around and being able to get some positions where they couldn’t scheme as much as they would want to. We’ve had a productive and unproductive year at the same time. It’s been a bit of both. I think it was good. I think Eli had one of his better seasons. I don’t know, we just need to win games.

Q: Did you notice a big jump in how well you guys ran the offense from last year? It was everyone’s first year in the scheme and then this year you felt you knew it better?

A: I think you get better with time. You learn something and you kind of have an idea of it more and you’re able to play faster because you know more. You could see the difference.

Q: With all the uncertainly obviously involved with the coaches, there’s one constant along with you—Eli being back signing his extension. Does that bring a comfort level going into the offseason knowing that with everything that may change around you that you and your quarterback will be back?

A: Yeah it definitely is a sense of comfort. At the same time, the whole situation is kind of something that I haven’t ever experienced. It’s something that I’m not really used to, so it’ll take time to adjust if something were to happen.

Of what exactly? Single handedly winning games for the team he plays for? It's time to surround him and Eli with help before he bolts in free agency when his contract is up.
He just means that he didn't take the reporters bait
