Ben McAdoo Introductory Press Conference - 10:30 AM

Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/15/2016 8:11 am

Watch at Giants.com - ( New Window )
Will it be on TV also?
Anakim : 1/15/2016 8:11 am : link
I want to DVR it. Perhaps NFL Network?

Eric from BBI : Admin : 1/15/2016 8:21 am : link
I think on the MSG Networks...I would think NFL Network would cover at least part of it.
Maybe Reese can dress like a GM this time

please please someone ask McAdoo about the Strength and Conditioning and Medical Staff .. if there will be firings because of the horrific job they have done the past few years
RV: Not a lot of staff changes
micky : 1/15/2016 8:46 am : link
so I wouldn't expect changes to Strength & Conditioning coaches etc etc

Hi Ginny Poo.

Someone outside of Lake George is a huge Giants fan, bear holding giants flag, plus a mini stadium in their front year.

I pass it on the way to Rutland.

Sounds like Ben McAdoo, #Giants leaning toward making a change at offensive line coach. Nothing official, but options being considered.

Okay, Herzlich really seems like a try-hard.

And I hate the pejorative sense of that term.

I guess you'd have to have a considerable drive in you to hang on as a fringe NFLer after being touted as a star.

Maybe he's considering coaching after his playing days are done.

Kind of hard to wholeheartedly endorse such a historically bad defense, even with the lack of talent available to Spags.

It makes sense - until you have the decisions settled out for all, you should probably refrain from making any statements. This way, people can't pick you apart and say 'well, if you decided on X what's taking Y so long'.

Floodgates. You start answering one question about coordinators and coaches, and that's all you'll be asked. Far easier to put a hold on all those questions.

McAdoo is a film rat
pganut : 1/15/2016 11:00 am : link
So the rumpled suit look fits his personality. Since no one can satisfy everyone, if he came out in a Hugo Boss suit pressed and dapper, there'd be comments about how slick he is or what a shark he looks like and he's too flashy, etc.

Gimme a guy who goes Belichick style in terms of attire on the sidelines. It suits the NY Football Giants just fine, IMO.

Not like anyone is saying "ohh he isn't well dressed, what a terrible hire" they are just saying "ha, dude isn't a suit guy" "needs a tailor", etc"..

No big deal.. just simple observations..

FranknWeezer : 1/15/2016 11:12 am : link
Also, who is the blonde woman in the group pic with Mara/Reese/Ben/Jon Tisch? Note Steve T. couldn't be bothered to be there.
Probably because there are far more important

I highly doubt those comments were because Spags isn't under
jcn56 : 1/15/2016 11:12 am : link
contract. That would imply someone's going to race in and grab Spags out from under us - which I'm going to go ahead and assume is not going to happen.

That was just to quash speculation on specific coaches. When he's done with his staff, he'll announce and then take whatever questions (and criticism) come with it.

A good approach, IMO.

I have to say I like what I'm reading about McAdoo. I'm sold he's the correct guy to "right the ship".

McAdoo seems to be targeting the right mix IMHO, of respecting the good that Coughlin did, while not being afraid to make the changes he feels are necessary and be his own man.

Given how young McAdoo is, he could (hopefully) have a very long, successful career with the Giants.

Very best wishes to McAdoo. Go Giants !!!

I would love it if more job interviewers thought like you, to be honest.
The Eagles were definitely interested in hiring this guy
Chris684 : 1/15/2016 11:17 am : link
and while I was leaning more towards a "big fish" type name, none were available and we are probably still better off when considering the Eli factor.

Our head coach and quarterback now have a two year head start as they enter the first year as HC/QB. Eli has excelled in this system, his mechanics have improved, his production has gone up and his mistakes have gone down.

I think Eli and Mac have to focus alot of work on the Red Zone, Eli especially (most of his mistakes took place on the door step of points) but there is reason to be excited.

Among the many needs this team has is a big TE who doesnt fumble and get the ball taken away from him like Donnell. Tye is a good guy to keep around but hopefully we bring in a playmaker here.

I feel like we just promoted the next Reid/McCarthy. Time will of course, tell.

Time to give it a rest. JR is here this year, right or wrong. They seemed to get it right the last two years by changing the type of player they wanted. If TC, JM, JR all were trying for the "athlete" over the "football" player then it is a shared error - organizational error. Now they were looking for football players who were leaders on their college teams. Still going to have misses, but more chances on keeping players on the roster.
McAdoo was already getting interest as a HC when we hired

I don't think for a second that the Eagles interest in him wasn't genuine. If anything, maybe the Eagles were trying to import both him and TC, with the thinking that they could pull off the same transition we were trying to make.

But, he did a fine job in this press conference. He was understandably nervous at the start, but he got his points across and seemed to handle the press pretty well. A couple of things:

1) Was anyone else surprised after naming a number of players, not mentioning OBJ? I don't think it was indicative of anything. I just thought it odd.

2) I noticed the suit immediately, but I don't care one bit.

3) It still doesn't sit well with me that ownership keeps stressing personnel, yet the GM and personnel staff remain seemingly unscathed.

4) I like the reload as opposed to rebuild. the Giants seem ready and willing to try to compete and win the division this season, instead of building over a few years. I agree with this, given their cap room.

Well how many Super Bowls did Reese win without Coughlin. Answer: zero. You're making my point.

IF you give them both credit for success, you have to give them both credit for the failure. Keep both or fire both.

A stronger case can be made that Coughlin won one Super Bowl with Accorsi's team (2007) and one with Reese's team (2011), while Reese is only responsible for one Super Bowl as GM (2011).

No, I didn't take it as that. I was just implying as an OC you are going to work closer with your QB than a WR. The QB is the guy that has to execute the system overall. OBJ would be working more with the WR coach. I think longevity helped create relationships in GB so he had a lot more guys to name there than here. I wouldn't really expect him to name OBJ.

No one was prepared for that. A new GM meant either (a) a complete overhaul which could involve trading Eli Manning for draft picks and doing a rebuild from the ground up or (b) Jawn and Stevie Ray placing pre-conditions on a GM which would have made hiring a GM problematical. Reese is willing to live with Bert and Ernie's interference in football operations, and so he gets to stay.

Only a matter of time until they smarten up and realize a complete overhaul was/is necessary.

Reese is still solidly in control of the personnel, and the coaches all seem the same to me. So what really changed?

talked about piece of clothing since Monica's dress.

The guy knocked the opening press conference out of the park. That was the easy part. Now the real work begins.

Reese is not in control of personnel. There are two new sheriffs in town.
I have absolutely, positively no concerns about the Giants

making the move to hire McAdoo if they felt strongly about him as a candidate and thought they were going to lose him to another team

A reactive move, in and of itself, is not a negative.

This is NY and you do dress for success. Calling people idiots for they're comments just reflects on one's immaturity and certainly lack of business acumen. No one was questioning Ben's football IQ we're glad to have him

*Only 38.

*Only 2 years as Offensive Coordinator.

*Never been a Head Coach at any level.

*Has no running game.

*Did very little besides Eli Manning and Odell Beckham (who let's face it, would produce for anyone). Appeared to comically force-feed Beckham/fail to develop any other part of the offense. Did not use Vereen effectively.

*Did NOTHING when Beckham had his melt-down on the sideline. (Was he hiding under a bench somewhere?)

*Does not *appear* to have the personality of a Head Coach

*Neither Mara or Reese said anything particularly great about the guy. None of the players other than "company man" Eli said anything - and of course Eli doesn't want to re-learn another offense.

------------

now, maybe he's the next Lombardi but IMO this hire is terrifying and has big time Ray Handley potential. hope I'm wrong-I never really saw the big deal w/him so maybe I'm biased

can we stick to talking about McAdoo here? Trainmaster (aka Choo Choo Boy), and Jeffy Poo, stop your incessant bitching about Reese. He's here, your constant bitching isn't going to change any of that. Be a good fan, and see how this plays out. since 2007 or thereabouts.

So I hate that I watched that entire press conference and couldn't get away from the fact that McAdoo's demeanor reminds me a lot of Cowher's.

You negative Nancies never quit. But I have a really good feeling about McAdoo as the top guy. I get the impression he's going to let it all hang out and we're going to get a much better look at who this guy is, and can be as a head coach.

I'm pumped!

The Giants have had their reasons for doing what they've done the past three years and the results have been shit so them having their reasons isn't a very compelling argument.

You left out top ten. As in the offense was top ten in the entire NFL despite some clear shortcomings.
