We all know that the defense must improve but I think that the OL, though improved, is still an area of concern. Pugh's position, guard or tackle is probably going to be decided in who we add to the team. If, and I know it's a big IF, we can get LT Cordy Glenn (Bills free agent), and add another capable Guard, our OL will be set for years. I recognize that we need to improve our defensive personnel and,at the same time, protecting Eli and having control of the line of scrimmage needs to be reemphasized.
Cordy Glenn would be a nice addition, but I think they will stay with Beatty and spend on FA defense.

Fixed "NFL"
The hidden gem in the draft is Graham Glasgow who plays both center and guard. One of the most powerful linemen in this class and kind of flying under the radar. If we could nab him in later rounds, he'd be a steal and could be put in at RG on day one and would by flexible enough to play center as well as the other guard position.
He might fall in the draft after some legal problems (DWI) and had to move in with his grandmother and has cleaned up his act. Otherwise, he'd be on the top of draft boards for center/guard.
Another option would be to pick up Geoff Schwartz's younger brother Mitchell who will be a free agent. He's better than brother Geoff and is a RT, but can also swing to guard. In 4 years at Cleveland, he's started every game and is a mainstay on that line.
But without a doubt, we need to concentrate on fixing the defense first. It would be sweet if we could pick up "Schwartz the younger", restructure Beatty's contract, and steal Glasgow in the draft. Probably a pipe dream of mine.
LT Glenn, and trade Beatty for Bennett (if healthy), I think that would be a plus for the Giants.

under contract for 2016. not going anywhere especially if they let Jeffrey walk.

Cleveland cannot run the ball and they have arguably the two best players at their positions in the NFL at the two most crucial positions on the OL. So, by process of elimination, either their LG, RG, and RT are really pulling down that OL and most like more than one of them if not all of them.
Put me in the camp of liking what we saw of Hart. I have a feeling he is our RG and I think he will be decent there.
Can't disagree with this assessment. Schwartz's time has passed.
Instead of them all agreeing to do that I do believe that nobody wanted to draft a "murderer" and have their team name and city/stat associated with that kind of negative publicity. I think teams were happy to wait.
I believe that Beatty, Pugh, Richburg, Schwartz, and Flowers can be an excellent line.
I am more concerned about the depth.
The Giants cannot rely on Jerry, Newhouse, Hart, etc. If the Giants can acquire some quality depth I believe that they will be in good shape.
"CUT HIS ASS!!"

What is wrong with Hart? I didn't see that last half of the season, but the posters seemed to think Hart was playing better RT than Newhouse when he did get in. I thought the Giants were very happy with his play. He'd probably be a better backup than Jerry or Newhouse as you say.
In a couple of years, he'll be a whopping 23 years old with 3 years of NFL experience under his belt. We haven't even begun to see his upside as he gains NFL smarts. He has that big ass and strong legs and can maul, as well as be quick enough on his feet to fill in at tackle.
We must keep Hart and give him time to progress. He has a bright future as a guard and spot tackle.
Because you have cap-space doesn't justify overpaying or hamstringing the team for the immediate future. Whether it is Beatty or Flowers on the Rt side, Beatty carries $5M in dead money vs a net cost of $4.175M for a decent OT, either side, which is an acceptable option, although renegotiation is preferable.. Cruz on the other hand is an unacceptable risk as a #2 at $6.1M hit for next year, the only way to keep him is a greatly reduced salary. IMHO.
They did improve the depth, the got rid of James Brewer.
Because 1) They seem to always come down to the last second and snap on one and by doing that they (Eli especially)look like they are panicking. This on film is a big advantage to the defense.
2) the offensive lineman are in their stance for 25 seconds going from one play to audible and back this has to effect them and to back that up I was just reading a SI magazine in which ESPN analyst and former offensive lineman quoted about Peyton "Everything he calls at the line of scrimmage irritates me Schlereth said when you sit in your stance on the line for 25 seconds it creates a situation where you lack aggression "
Maybe this is why we don't run the ball well yet, maybe it takes some time for lineman to get used to or mayb we have the wrong guys for this system!
I know for me personally it irritates the heck out of me.
I think Schwarz will take a pay-cut and stay BUT Hart may start over him. This is just my gut speaking.
Beatty will also take a paycut with incentives. I can see us retaining some of our vets at or near minimums simply because they know the system. I don't think we'll see a big UFA OL signing though I'd love GLENN from the Bills.
They key to this team's future and success next year is improved run blocking, health and growth of youth like Flowers, Richburg, Pugh and Hart. Honestly, I look for our offense to be really good next year if a few things happen:
1. RB. Jennings will be 31 and that is the year all RB's seem to slide down a lot. A. Williams hasn't shown much in this offense. Look for the Giants to draft a RB and grab a 5th year RB with upside. My guess is DWARKA starts next year cause I think the kid has talent.
2. TE. Can Tye and Cunningham improve their blocking and pass catching? I think so. But we can use a veteran blocking TE for 3rd / 4th and short. If the TE can also catch an occassional pass all the better. Our TE and FB blocking sucked last year.
3. WR. We definitely need a #2 to replace Randle and we need Cruz to be effective in the slot. cruz will stay at a paycut with incentives and my gut tells me he does well in 2016.
I think Eli and the Giants offense will be top five if we stay healthy, get healthy, draft well and see improvement from youngsters.
The GIANTS already have their left tackle of the future, and I for one think he will be BETTER than Cordy Glenn in the near future.
So why would Glenn leave OLT money on a team that is closer to getting to the playoffs than the GIANTS, a team that would probably want him to play ORT for less money?

Beatty-Pugh-Richburg-Hart-Flowers
If they do that they think there is nothing wrong with this OL.....
It's going to take two years, at min, to rebuild this defense...
Let's get this OL set, this up coming year, to be ready in 2017......
Beatty is not the future of this line.....he's coming back from not one, but two injuries....he is 30.....and I don't see him being out there for 16 games.....If a free agent LT is available out there, you use his 6.675M salary towards a stud LT.....but if the Giants decide to keep him, LT or RT? But they are crazy, if they don't restructure him.....there is no way he gets that kind of money as a 30 year old free agent coming back from two injuries....
Better have someone to step in for Pugh, if those concussions recur....
Richburg is the only rock of this OL.....
Say goodbye to Schwartz.....Free agency or an early draft pick to replace him......
Flowers was not a stud......was it because he was a rookie and still learning, or was it the ankle, or both? Can he adjust to RT, if we keep Beatty at LT?
Hart is not ready, or may never be....right now he is b/u material, no more....
So, if we keep Beatty, and he can stay healthy, we need at least a RG.....but that is only putting off the inevitable for a year, maybe two....I say replace him now if possible, and get a RG, and have them play together for a full season, and we are ready to make a move the following season.....
These lines do not come together overnight......but if Eli can get that second WR, and possibly a RB(Jennings is getting long in the tooth, and Darkwa is not the answer), he can make this line look better than it actually is....and this offense can put up much bigger numbers, to overcome the deficiencies of the defense....it can make the playoffs, but not go far.....but 2017 might be a different story if we can get the right building blocks for this defense over the next two seasons....
I don't dislike Beatty, but he isn't great, he's been injured, maybe it's time to move on. I would cut Schwartz for sure.
