Eli, number of hits in NFC Championship game against 49ers?

trueblueinpw : 1/26/2016 2:10 pm
Does anyone know how many times Eli was hit in the NFC Championship game against San Fransisco? Looks like he was sacked 6 times but I can't find anything on the number of hits.

I was just reading about how Brady was hit 20 hits by the Denver defense in Sunday's AFC Championship game. As bad as Brady was hammered by Denver, I thought Eli took a worse beating from the 49ers in 2010/11 game. I can't really remember any time I saw a QB take a worse beating in a playoff game than the one Eli took out there in San Francisco.
Eli was Hit 20, Knocked Down 12, Sacked 6

No idea, but it seemed to be a lot..

It's the worst beating I've seen a star QB take..I saw Bart Starr take a tremendous beating against Karras, Roger Brown et al of the Lions in '61 or '62, but Eli's beating trumps that imo

I think that may have been Eli's greatest game

not on the stat sheet, but all of us who watched know he faced that day

Also up there was Hostetler in the 90-91 playoffs/SB
Nice

Looked at pro football reference, didn't think to search BBI. Forgot that ESPN covered sports stats. Boo yah...
Eli's mom

I saw an interview of Eli's mom after that game - maybe it was super bowl pregame - where she was basically like - "i couldnt watch anymore i didnt care if he won i just wanted the hits to stop" or something to that effect.

Parcells said eli's performance that day was one of the best he had ever seen by a qb.

I recall trent dilfer saying the same postgame as well.

That was awesome. One of my favorites. Defense was great. Eli just was such a warrior. My kind of football.

Eli and the Niner game
WillBags : 1/26/2016 3:55 pm : link
I remember that game well and not just because of Eli's courage and toughness that day. My first grandson, Nathan, was born at exactly the moment Lawrence Tynes kicked the Giants into the Super Bowl. My son and his wife were going to come to our house (superstition, of course) but she started having contractions by mid-morning and they decided not to come. At 6:30 we got a photo of her with a Giants jersey on and at 8:30 they were told to go the hospital. As OT began around 10:00 we hadn't heard much, but my wife and I decided to leave our house in the hands of three other couples and head to the hospital. Hey, I'm a huge Giants fan but nothing trumps the birth of a child or grandchild. As we are driving from Westchester County to NYC, the Niners fumble the punt. At exactly 10:37, Tynes makes the kick; I know because I checked the car clock. We get to the hospital and my son comes down to the waiting area around 11:15 and announces the arrival of our beautiful, wonderful grandson. I ask him for the time of birth and he says 10:37. I kid you not.
The hits on Eli that game
est1986 : 1/26/2016 3:56 pm : link
We're full speed and flush he wasn't dragged down he was drilled again and again and he stepped up to make the throw again and again. One of the all time best conference championship performers because that game in zero degree weather in Green Bay was even more special in my eyes.
that first Jerome McDougle hit
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 1/26/2016 4:07 pm : link
is still the most vicious hit I've seen him take. Although fatass Rogers putting all that weight on Eli was scary in a different way.

That Niners game was awesome. Eli proved how tough he was in that game.

But IMO, I feel like Eli's 2011 Super Bowl performance is underrated and his 2011 NFC Title Game performance is overrated (by BBIers).

I've never seen him be more accurate than he was against the Pats in that game. And as tough as he was against the Niners, our Offense had 12 DRIVES IN THE 2ND HALF with 10 Punts. The only 2 scoring drives came on Kyle Williams' fumbles.

People always talk about that beautiful Manningham TD in that game on 3rd down. Bigtime money throw. But outside of that our Offense did nothing that 2nd half. Eli didn't choke and he deserves major credit for that. But unlike a lot of BBIers I don't consider that his best game as a Giant. I'd take his SB performance against NE in '11 over it.
I know everyone will remember the

Montana fumble game from 1991 most favorably but this was my favorite playoff game outside of the Super Bowls. Eli was tough and amazing. Everyone remembers the Tyree catch or the throw to Manningham in the Super Bowl but the TD pass to Manningham in this game was one of the best throws I've ever seen.

My top 3 eli games:

2007 NFC championship
2011 NFC championship
2011 super bowl

It's hard to capture how bad the weather was for the SF championship game. I lived in SF for 15 years, it was absolutely the coldest day I experienced in the area. The rain was literally thick, there was sleet and ice mixed in the fog.

Not turning the ball over was a miracle every possession. Graded on a curve for conditions and opponents defense, Manning was a 100% that day.

Also total BS, since I'm reasonably sure the Giants hit him more than that in Super Bowl XLII - I believe it was 23 times, and in fewer dropbacks.
Eli earned my eternal respect and admiration that day

The Niners brought the pain. Eli took everything they had and kept on fighting.
I remember sitting in the stands that day ....
Manny in CA : 1/26/2016 7:36 pm : link
And seeing him picked up and slammed to the ground with gusto and thinking - "isn't there a rule against that ?"

In some ways, I'm happy it wasn't called, it kind of added to sweetness of the eventual outcome.

Not sure any of those hits were any worse than MarshallOnMontana, or BurtOnMontana.

Fangio figured out how to get pressure at halftime and Eli in 2 1/2 quarters faced something even Seattle couldn't bring on their best day.

It was great while it lasted. :)

Such a great Giant.
His toughness is unreal

But it's his approach that makes him so great. You never see the drama like with Ben or Brady. He plays banged up and you would never know it.

I tried googling the QB hits numbers from that game as well and came up blank. And I would be extremely surprised if the Giants 12 sack game in 2007 didn't produce more than 20 QB hits

Even beyond the football field, that was one of the greatest performances I've seen in any sport.

Olympic level like performances by Jean-Claude Killy, Dan Grable, Carl Lewis, Edwin Moses...

Eli's performance that game was epic beyond the football field IMO. Talk about true grit!

There were lots of late hits that game.

The officials looked the other way. Niners were trying the best they could.to knock Eli out of that game some hits like the aldon smith hit where he plants Eli would have been enough to separate or break another guys shoulder.
On one sack three guys hit him after he got the ball off. You could tell that defense and coaching staff were terrified of what Eli, and that offense could do. That game sealed his legacy as a Giant.
Just like LT playing with a separated shoulder against the Saints sealed his.
One of my favorite games.
